i was looking through my local walmart trying to find the 2 action figures i want and just came across this. was probably posted elsewhere but not in this thread- shows a close up end of Rey's staff:

The image is from square party plates >_>

I think its just a staff though.. just like the Weequay in RotJ had stylized halberds
Maybe the end of her staff might stun but if it does it looks nothing like a Magnaguard staff

That staff (Rey's) doesn't really look like this one. More like the ROTJ Imperial guard staff.

Agreed. And that's what I stated in my post. It looks nothing like a Magnaguard staff. I think its just a staff. But it doesn't look like Imperial Guard staff either.

If anything, it looks like a larger version of a Weequay Halberd without the blade.

The image I posted is official licensed material and looks just like its appearance in the movie:

    Crude spoiler

It's her B.O.B. The opening is the charging port. It gets lonely out there scavenging all by yourself. Rey could be a freak.

There's a unique human element we haven't seen in SW - more like Eunuch Wars. 6 movies, and the only passion is incestual.

So R2D2 can't fly or squirt oil but Reys staff has to be a hidden saberstaff or electrostaff? Nooo guys, too lame.

My apologies for the mix up. I was referring to thie pic here of the robot with the staff not Rey's staff. Her staff doesn't look like the robot's staff. I can see why you might have thought I was mentally ill on that one. No worries! :)

It's hard NOT to see the saber resemblance in the top part really...

It's just that R-2 is supposed to be R-2 not R-2 wan'ts to be like iron man. The oil and little gizmo sh## like that is cool, like the little electric shock Salatious stuff, or the tweeking the hyper drive stuff. But flying around in a factory cartoon? In a major episode on the big screen on top of THAT? God help us.

That's the part that bugs me. I mean, LOOK at it!!!!! (dual)We could be totally in the dark about this issue. Maybe that's why they are holding back on Rey "staff" combat footage?

No worries. i wasnt saying you were mentally ill. I said 'people' ... as in those forum members that like to give out negative ratings when faced with facts. Like the torrent of negative ratings I received from idiots when i stated the fact that 'Darth' was only ever a first name for 22 years (1977-1999) until Lucas ignored his own story and changed it to a title when he made TFM.

I also originally misunderstood your original reply and went back and edited my next post, rewording for clarity.

In my dreams Rey analyzes my staff.. but to each his own I guess :p

I completely Disagree @Century_Eagle but I'm not so much of an @sshole to give you the rating. ;)

There's me, Rey, then you. Rey's in the middle and then there's me swatting you on the top of your head saying "Mine!" "Mine!"

One day someone posts something really convincing and the next day someone with the opposite point of view posts something convincing. In a catch 22, found myself I have.

I don't think Rey has an actual Magnagaurd staff, but might have an electrostaff that's similarly lightsaber resistant. Sarco Plank, a character from new canon is already established having one of these in Weapon of a Jedi. I think it would be great if there is a side-story sometime before TFA that has Rey getting the staff from Plank on Jakku, and he holds a grudge. While he may still appear as a minor character in TFA, this would add some fun depth for fans.

I think it unlikely that Rey's weapon is anything but a mundane staff, for if it were a lightsaber-weapon or electrostaff, this fact would probably be evident from the toys and posters. To me, it would be as inconceivable to not show a laserblade extension or elector-effect in such a weapon, as it would be to only show the inactivated handle of Kylo Ren's laser-guard lightsaber. IF Rey's staff was a light-spear (or whatever), we would surelly see a retractable laserblade in the toy versions of the weapon, AND we would have seen her ignite it in the posters and trailers and imagry by now; IMHO.

Now, it is POSSIBLE that Rey's staff hides a wonder-weapon of some type, but it would require a strange plot arc indeed to varrant keeping it secret from the public till the film launches (and it might piss off a lot of kid customers when they find out that the toys they have bought are 'incomplete', lacking the most important part of the weapon). IF Rey's staff hides a weapon function, it would probably be something more subtle than a lightsaber blade etc, such as cattleprod zap-tip (which wouldn't need to be fancily displayed in the toys). That said, I think the evidence we've seen so far speaks for Rey's staff being only a metal bo-staff for cracking bad-guy skulls with.

want to go into more detail about this from the book @walnut the wise? How does Plank fit into the novel that takes place between Star Wars and Empire? Is Plank on the 'mysterious planet' mentioned in the blurb for the novel?

Can you tell us more about Plank's electrostaff? There cant be too many lightsaber-resistant items out there, especially since its been 50 years since they were made. Also - same character, different planets could very well be the same staff.

I've created similar thread a while ago, and back then I was pretty sure, that she indeed is in possession of lightsaber pike/lightsaber staff, whatever you want to call it.

I strongly believe, that her stuff have to be something more than simple, fancy looking metal rod. It is featured pretty much on every piece of marketing when Rey is involved.

Tip of staff is disturbingly lightsaber like

On the other hand, not single one of Rey toys suggest a lightsaber pike or lightsaber saber staff. It is strange to sell toys of main hero without one of the coolest features, which of course is lightsaber blade attached to it.

So my newest theory is, that in ep VII although special, is not a lightsaber variant. Yet. She will modify it into lightsaber variant at the beginning of ep VIII under Luke's supervision.

Every electrostuff is different just like every lightsaber. They are not all the same.

    Rey staff is probably electrostaff.

    ''Rey’s Staff

As a strong, independent space scavenger and member of the resistance, Rey needs a powerful weapon to protect herself from Stormtroopers, Kylo Ren, and Captain Phasma. This Rey staff is the perfect accessory to your rebellious costume. Similar to the staff that was used to deflect lightsaber blades during The Clone Wars, this staff is extremely detailed and perfectly coordinated with Rey’s costume.''
