SPECULATION Rey's training

    Just some thoughts on the trailer and recent tv spot called awakening. I think that in the trailer, when you see Rey swinging the light saber to John Williams brilliant music on the cliffs with Luke watching, and she pauses before hitting the rock, that this is part of Rey's training. Not combat light saber technique, but for Luke to test her anger perhaps and how she reacts.

    I don't think she pauses before hitting the rock but is maybe stopped by Luke using the force, to see how she reacts to being unable to do something that should be simple like slashing the rock. In the recent tv spot you also see Rey from a different angle swinging away, but she appears very angry this time, swinging away like shes frustrated, then a cut to Luke looking all in deep thought. I think he's holding her back to test her reaction in some way. I'm probably grasping at straws with excited anticipation here, but that is the first thing I thought when I saw that brief scene.

    I like this; it could explain Luke acting like a grumpy grandpa in the few promotional material we've seen. Likely he'll do like Yoda in TESB only faking grumpiness instead of craziness.

    Maybe its just me, but I'd like to see her training with a lightsaber to be more than just "battling against air". A training droid shooting lasers at her would be nice. Or Luke throwing stones at her that she has to cut in slices before hitting her.

    As it is now, it just looks as if she's swinging around a glowing stick, not a lightsaber.

    Pardon, battling against air and against a rock :D.

    Eh, I hope so (hope is the key as SW tells us ;)). I mean, I want a good, solid training montage, seeing Rey trying to overcome obstacles and higher stakes like Luke in the OT.

    Training montage?..... Makes me shiver (not in a good way lol)

    Rey starts jogging up the steps of Ach to with a bunch of porgs and r2 following her..... I. Am. Out. Lol

    Training montages not Rocky Style exist :D.

    Maybe training montage isn't the best of summary but in short I'd like to see something more akin to Luke's training, scenes in which you can actually see the work not some shots of her swinging a saber.

    I think we will. We already know that TLJ will open at the exact moment TFA left off. I think that will be an extensive scene there in the beginning.

    She's probably frustrated because he won't train her at the beginning, so she trains on her own.

    I wouldn't be surprised if some fan cuts together a version of Rey's training montage with the Rocky music.

    Maybe, but in the far away shot from the teaser, Luke is standing behind her, albeit at a distance. Maybe just observing instead of actually "training".

    I'm sure one already exists from the few clips we've gotten of her wielding the saber.

    I'm not so sure on her being frustrated for that reason. I think something folks forget is that she did not go to find Luke in order to train her to become a Jedi, she went to find him for the resistance, to bring him back to the fight.

    I don't think there is any doubt that she will be trained in some way as everything points to that, but it wasn't the purpose of her visit. I think it will go along the lines of 'Hey Luke we need you dude', 'No thanks I'm pretty grumpy these days, last guy wiped out everything I loved'. Then he will see how strong she is with the force and through spending time with her will slowly regain his belief and reluctantly begin to train her.
