So, I just saw the end of TFA, again, and it just gets worse every time. The minor insults of snoke telling hux "bring kylo to me, it's time to complete his training " , and kylo telling Rey "I can teach you the ways of the force" aside, Rey's mind trick with no training and, the worst thing, Rey's recovery of the saber past kylo, who's trained his whole life and has pedigree, is ALMOST worse than 9 year old anikin destroying the trade blockade.

    I mean, c'mon...

We've heard about "shocking reveals" coming in TLJ, but I for one, am no longer rooting for the cause. I've moved to Missouri, "show me". I will not accept and defend without question whatever it is they come up with. It better be good, make sense, and hold up to inquiry, or I will not be satisfied. I will not be spoon fed bad or regurgitated writing by the mouse.

Put out good product, and I'll be a life long fan, I won't simply follow along out of habit

Thanks for reading, apparently, I needed to vent this morning

Don't be so sure. A talented and inspired writer is all what's needed.
This theory for instance made me instantly re-evaluate my opinion about TFA (and this is just a fan-theory):

    Welcome!

I've lived in Missouri my entire life. Honestly, I forget we're apparently the "Show Me" state.

I think it's reasonable to say that you don't need to defend TLJ without question. I totally agree. But I don't think you'll even need to anyway.

The title of this thread is totally misleading. We don't know what Johnson is going to do, and while it's unfortunate that you don't think TFA is redeemable... well, I guess we'll just have to find out, won't we? :)

I wasn't sure if the Missouri line was just a joke or if you actually moved. I live in MO as well if you did move. Curious what part. As far as you opinions on the movie I can see how you can feel that way I am hoping for a decent explanation of how she can use the force so well untrained.
    What part of Mo?

Why so pessimistic? "Rian Johnson can't save TFA"?

Why not "Rian Johnson can redeem TFA"?

I mean, he is a good writer and has the creds to show it. Maybe he is going to make us look at TFA in a different context that fixes some of the concerns you have? You never know... and December is still so far away. :D

And with that feeling of being swindled do you plan to go to the theater to see TLJ ?

Because at this level of hating, it would be a absolute non sense.

bruh this video just blew my mind, and i looked it up, it's true that neither luke, han, or leia is rey's biological parent. this doesn't rule out a distant kenobi relation but i agree with the video that her blood isn't the point.

Why the hell is training so essential in being able to use the force? Why can't people figure out some of the basic aspects of using it on their own? It's like telling a kid in a Kenyan village that he can't run fast unless he has a running coach. It's nonsense. Some people have natural abilities that get perfected by training, which turns them into world-class athletes - like the Kenyans who always win marathons. But the idea that a coach needs to teach them absolutely everything about how to run is bogus. Some things you just learn on your own. The same can be true of Rey using the force.

Man....you must hate A New Hope then due to the preposterous idea that Luke used the Force without training to shoot torpedoes into a tiny shaft to destroy the Death Star. Talk about your spoon-fed, ridiculous, logic-free ideas.
    --- Double Post Merged, Aug 8, 2017, Original Post Date: Aug 8, 2017 ---
Not sure TFA needs saved. But he's entitled to his opinion.

I suspect "training" allows you to focus on your inner-self on the Force. It's not "necessary" but its like if you have this power, without training, you might not be able to understand how to use it responsibly or efficiently.

For example, anyone with arms can throw a ball, but you need training to be able to focus that throw with the speed, accuracy, grip and arm movement to perform a perfect two-seamed fastball. Sure, you can self-teach yourself. But its rare.

There are also savants who can naturally do something without any training. Those people are very, very rare. There are most likely Force-user savants as well.

As for the Rey "mind-trick" issue. She obvious learns by watching. So she just experienced Kylo trying to probe her mind for information to do his bidding. She then tried it herself. Rey knows she has Force sensibilities and powers. She just doesn't want to use them or doesn't understand them.

Leia uses the Force in ESB when Luke calls out to her. She doesn't realize it, but she uses it. She also uses it at the end of ROTJ when she tells Han, Luke made it out alive. Again, she's not sure how she used it, but once Luke put the idea in her brain that she has a strong connection to the Force, she starts to try to use it.

The movie is called The Force Awakens. When Rey touched the lightsaber it awakend her to the force. I mean, yeah thats not how the force works, but I think with this whole, "Time for the Jedi to end" business, they are going to rewrite what the Force is. Which might be a good thing.

The number of psychics in this forum who are apparently capable of looking into the future is too damn high. This might sound weird to you but I usually have to watch a movie before I know wheter I like it or not.

    1. I think you missed my point, I wasn't talking about training, I was talking about throwing around Star Wars cliches without consequence of resolution

    2. You really like Kenyans, huh?

    1. No, I LOVED ANH, and I was lead to believe that the wise old wizard had practiced a lifetime on the "mind trick" and was one of many secrets that could be mastered with practice.

    2. So, have you seen "enter the dragon"? Are you a tae-kwon-do master?
