The debate continues, is RJ still doing a Star Wars film? You be the judge:

What else can Campea say at this point? He already reported that RJ was gone. Then backtracked. Now he claims he doesn't have any sources.

It's unfortunate but it's where he [Campea] is dwelling right now because it drives clicks and views.

If you've ever followed sports at any point, Campea is the Stephen A Smith of movie pundits. He pulls stuff out of his ass and pretends like he's breaking news but if he ever ends up being right it's through sheer dumb luck and not because he has any insider information.

This is also why I'm ready for next year to come, because I'm getting pretty sick of the endless speculation machine about what's next for SW films. Next year I want LF to say that if projects are happening, they reaffirm they are happening, and if they aren't, then officially say they aren't happening.

^There is a part of me that finds all the speculation fun. But all the same time, yeah, I am anxious for an official announcement.

I didn't realize how much people have turned on Benioff & Weiss because of Game of Thrones, when it popped up again the other day from that panel they did.

If some people have the same amount of vitriol for them as some do for Rian Johnson, then it seems odd if they were to break things off with him but keep them around.

It's almost like people are going to be angry with you no matter what you do, so you might as well stick to your original plan.

I agree it would seem strange to keep D&D but get rid of RJ. Although I won't be surprised if Disney gets rid of all of them in the end. Their respective Star Wars projects were announced before all the backlash came about, which Disney probably wasn't expecting. I hope Disney keeps RJ and D&D around, as I'm still curious to see what their SW films would be like, and I think it'd be all the more impressive for Disney to stick to their guns at this point. But, with all the restructuring that's going on, it seems unlikely to me. Disney might just want a fresh slate.

I've mentioned this a few times, but there very little real evidence suggesting there's a major backlash. The internet hates everything and Star Wars has a huge fanbase so the internet just exaggerates it. Even if people were disappointed with TLJ it's a far leap have them quit Star Wars altogether. A lot of people are invested in Finn/Rey/Poe/Kylo. They'll be there in December.

Because I hate myself, I was curious what Campea was saying now that Benioff & Weiss are out. He's trying to claim he never believed D&D had any effect on Rian Johnson's trilogy happening or not, when if you go back to his original proclamation he said that the reason it wasn't happening was because the 3 dates were for D&D. Dude can't even keep the story he made up straight.

Honestly, I was preparing for RJ to be out but now that D&D are out, I just wonder about this: at Celebration, Kennedy said she was getting together with D&D, RJ and Jon Favreau to figure out what is next. If you now out D&D, why would you part with yet another collaborator (who we know she gets along with) and be left with just JF?

I do not believe that any announcement will come out about RJ until after the awards season. If Knives Out is nominated for best picture, best screenplay or best director then I believe that LucasFilm will feel very confident in continuing forward with RJ. I can see the toxic fans railing against the filmmaker that has had nothing but critical and box office success over and over and looking foolish.

Screenplay is probably his best shot. Director will have people like Scorsese and Tarantino and there are many others that seem like locks to me.

If he's out, it would certainly be an absolute stupid move to put that announcement out before RoS. 1. To put it out so soon after D&D would not look good. 2. It would only upset some fans enough that I think they could be persuaded to skip out on RoS in theaters. You would be creating an unnecessary controversy that doesn't help Lucasfilm as much as it doesn't help him.

I did say nominated so he and Knives Out could still get nominated even with Scorsese and Tarantino.

Nominated is what I meant. In addition to those two, you have Bong Joon-Ho, Noah Baumbach, Todd Phillips, Taika Waititi, and more, so I think he's unlikely in director.

But in an Oscars that separates Adapted and Original Screenplay, at least three of the films I mentioned are Adapted, so he has an opportunity to get nominated in Original Screenplay.

Would be nice if, after all the blast he's put up with for the last two years, we are able to call him "Academy Award nominee-Rian Johnson".

Man if Todd Phillips gets nominated for doing a Scorsese tribute the same year Scorsese is nominated......but then they did nominate the Green Book director....
