After searching, I found a couple bits of information on his take of the prequels and directing Episode VIII.

Chatting to the Filmspotting Podcast, Johnson admitted his absolute delight at landing the Star Wars job. "The thought of it made me so completely joyfully happy. I wanted to to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see".

Admitting that he's early in the process of making his new film, Johnson is currently hard at work at Lucasfilm, and spends evenings showing his crew films (most recently Russian movie Letter Never Sent, and also Twelve O'Clock High).

I'm really excited about all the things I can't tell you", Johnson said, and then recommended that newcomers to Star Wars episodes four to six first, and then one to three. He argued that "storytelling-wise, four to six were constructed without the knowledge of the past", going on to say "there was something really beautiful about the prequels".

More to come as I find it .. Stayed tuned ...

JJ seems to be taking every step he can away from the prequels for TFA, and I'm okay with that; I want this to be the continuation of the OT, not the PT. However, do these statements suggest that Johnson's VIII will acknowledge the PT more than we're expecting in TFA? Maybe Luke and Leia have to hideout on Polis Massa and encounter their birth records; maybe Luke opens up about Yoda and Chewie, startled, shares his experiences with the Jedi Master; maybe we visit the home of a once-empowered Senator from Naboo who mournfully explains that "Meesa was trick-ed by the Dark Side...."

Joking aside, I would love to see some PT locales show up in the ST, really show how many of these places are still ravaged from The Clone Wars and never really had a chance to recover; hammer-in the idea that while The Empire brought relative peace for a couple decades, the tyranny led to a galactic decay, hence the "outdated" look of the tech in the OT vs the PT. One of many themes that Johnson could play with if he's interested in tying the PT into the ST. That being said, if Jar Jar shows up, we riot.

Interesting, I would be curious to know the complete list of movies he has been showing to his 'crew' if anyone has that knowledge or been keeping track from twitter, etc...... So we have a flashback air warfare movie and survival tale after looking for some diamonds? Hmmm. Maybe it's nothing or maybe he is taking notes for stories, inspiration for cinematography, etc. Didn't he also comment about the Astronauts Wife w/ Johnny Depp via twitter? Never saw it, but it always looked terrible.

I sense that with the potential for JJ doing flashbacks + Rian Johnson's style from what I have seen, we will be getting very different narrative styles compared to the prior 6 movies. I for one like the idea of something new.

There's little doubt the Sequels will have plenty of elements in terms of story from the Prequels in them. For the story of Star Wars is suppose to be seen as one movie and it's continuous process ...

Episode I-III established things to be used later.

    I - Anakin's origins and mid-chlorians.
II - Sifo-Dyas and why he ordered the army.
III - Someone cheating death. Darth Plagueis.

Have to remember the Prequels not only had to set up the Original Trilogy but, a beginning of a Saga. Introducing the whole lay out of what is to come.

It should be noted the Sequel Trilogy is supposedly to have compulsive action. So, a giant war could be going on during the events of Episode VIII.

I also saw somewhere that someone who worked on the art for Battlefield will be a concept artist or maybe was something slightly more. Can't recall off hand.
