I mean... I guess you never know but Lucasfilm wouldn't dare make an announcement like this prior to a film's release unless they had the upmost confidence in the film and expect it to be universally loved.

It will get a divisive response, even if it is better than Citizen Kane.

Id be shocked if TLJ isn't a near perfect film now. Considering the mistakes they have recently made with directors, they'd like be much more cautious. So to go full steam ahead with RJ and a new trilogy is very promising indeed.

Great, 1) You are not all Star Wars fans and 2) your lack of imagination doesn't = reality.

No its not - if anything two trilogies makes things easier since the audience can/will get connected to both stories over the long haul. And while I agree making Jyn look identical to Rey was kinda dumb, once marketing ramped up and people saw the movie, there was no confusion. Claiming "two trilogies is too much" is just an arbitrary line you're drawing because reasons.

The current trilogy started production in Nov 2012 (of course then in Oct 2013 Abrams and Kasdan basically re-started it). Its going to end in Dec 2019. Thats 7 years, and you thnk this trilogy will take more double that because........? However this doesn't really matter because you picked 15 years to try to claim we have no idea were Daisy will be in 15 years - but if she is under contract it doesn't matter, and if she isn't but they give her a 50-75-100 million cheque ........

Daisy wont do another trilogy, she's involved with the sequels and the Chaos Walking trilogy. I think her been in another trilogy would be highly unlikely. If they do go after her, I can't imagine Hylda Queally advising it unless its astronomical wages.

Besides I think they will have nothing to do with the current staff anyway.

IU want them to stay away from Old REpublic - at least how that setting has been done in video games and comics in the past.

First, the setting doesn't really fit with what Lucas did in the PT. Second, it just reads as fan fiction. Its 4,000 years before the movies, but the universe is EXACTLY the same (Same planets, a Republic, the same Jedi Order, a SIth Empire etc.....)? It just reads as fan fiction with more Jedi and Sith.

If they do their own thing with a prequel setting - make it fit, make it make sense, make it feel like the real history of this universe etc... then cool.

I disagree, what do you want from me? I've felt for a long time this will be the end of the Skywalker's have said a new trilogy will be made instead. I think this news backs up my view more than it does yours. And yes, it might not be 15 years but it will be somewhere near that. Even if the last one comes out in 2026 (earliest possible date) that is still a decade away from now. With a new trilogy, RJ will be taking SW into new territory and it won't be so easy to make them so quickly.

As for Daisy, it's irrelevant if she comes back or not because she isn't a Skywalker. I'm sorry, but they're not going to regurgitate another tale about a fallen skywalker. It's time to move on. They have to think long term and the Skywalker's belong in the past.

I was having a slightly down morning (it's morning where I live), and this news completely changed my attitude. Thank you Rian Johnson and thank you Star Wars!

Something interesting - a very common thought about this new trilogy is "great, something new" but then the most common suggestions for this "new" trilogy is "Plaquis" or "The Old Republic" or "Snoke" etc.... all things that have been done already.............

to be fair, Warner Bros gave all the same indications about Ben Afleck when Batman v Superman was in post-production.

If she signed on for 4+ movies she won't have a choice.

And how much money do you think itd' be worth for Disney to bring the character back? If Ironman can get 75 million for a team movie........

I'm stoked! This shows how pleased Lucasfilm/Disney have been with RJ, and i think it's good that they want to explore parts of the Star Wars universe that we haven't seen before with the upcoming standalone films.

Totally agree. I get the impression that her profession means more to her than getting a big cheque and the career stifling role that goes with it.

Man, KK and the big guns at Disney know what they want...

"hey Gareth, we like the premise of your movie... but, meet Tony, he's gonna help you finish it"
"hey Lord and Miller... meet Ron"
"hey JJ, we liked your movie. do you wanna do Colin's one?"
    and then...
"hey Rian, we LOVE your movie. do you want your own trilogy?"

    :D

It's worth nothing they announced this before officially announcing the Obi-Wan film... I wonder if that means anything. Could it have been scrapped?

Sure it does - if you assume a whole bunch of things that haven't been said a common sense.

    7 years isn't near 15, and 2026 isn't the earlist possible date.

Rey being a Skywalker doesn't = a fallen Skywalker story. And while that series taking a break is well within the realm of possbility, the idea that they are coing to completely close the door and end the Skywalker (the center and heart of Star Wars) story is ridiculous. There is simply no reason too. When this new trilogy is wrapping up they can move onto something else new OR push "the RETURN of Rey/the Skywalkers and Episode X" and build a huge amount of hype once again. There is zero benefit into not giving themselves that option.
