It's been awhile since I was on this website, because after spoiling a lot of the TFA, I just wanted to watch Star Wars again like I did the first time. Without knowing anything before hand. I knew at some point most of these amazing theories this site has come up with, would be crushed and would ruin my experience going forward. I believe cutting myself off from all this, greatly helped with enjoying TLJ.

Now I'm ready to speculate again. :D I'm not sure if anything like this topic has been posted elsewhere? But if so, please direct me to that discussion.

As all of us have seen the movie reading this thread(I hope), we know of Snokes inevitable death. As someone who followed the now legends universe, I prayed everyday that Snoke was Plaqueis. I was so torn about his lame death that my girlfriend had to ask why I was rooting for the bad guy to win. Now, I still hope that Snoke isn't dead because I enjoyed the power his character had, and we don't see something like that a lot in the actual films. Now onto the real speculation, and why I created this post. This has taken some ideas from @BobRoss post, because I thought it was an excellent discussion.

    • Rian Johnson and Disney recently announced a new trilogy(outside of the current one), that right now Johnson would write and direct that first movie. I want to speculate these new films will be about Snoke, who ever Snoke exactly is. Johnson makes a great comment, that I thought didn't get enough attention in his interview with Entertainment Weekly. Johnson says "For example, in the original trilogy, we didn't know anything about the Emperor except exactly what we needed to know, which is what Luke knew about him, that he's the evil guy behind Vader, But then in the prequels, you knew everything about Palpatine because that his rise to power was the story. We'll learn exactly as much about Snoke as we need to."
    • My speculation here would like to see Snoke return in episode 9, to do what ever it is he does, then die off I think, more properly? While still knowing basically nothing about him. I think going into the current trilogy, Disney wanted Snoke to be lets say 'x' character. Then Rian Johnson came in, and pitched the idea of Snoke being mysterious like the Emperor in the original trilogy, and dying in episode 8 in order to balance the force with Luke's passing. Then Disney decided to give Rian Johnson the go ahead on creating the sequel trilogy its own "prequel" trilogy in Johnson newly announced trilogy.

Now, this is sort of where my whole speculation could branch off into different branches of story

    • My favorite one, because its relatively more simple to the average viewer, is that Johnson's trilogy is set after the originals and before the TFA. And would focus on Snoke, being a character we have never met and his rise to power, or even Plaqueiss return!! I also do not believe this could be the case because Disney said Johnson would have an extremely blank canvas, and I believe this area of time would bring down how blank that canvas actually is, but still possible.
    • Another theory, that occurred to me and is the reason for this post is sort of described by @BobRoss post here. I would recommend reading that post before I continue here. TLJ goes deep into the force like we have haven't seen in a long time. I think Johnson enjoyed creating that part, because it sort of fits into his style. BobRoss's post provides lots of evidence to Snoke potentially being a very old character, and is a complete master of the Force. Specifically a "Prime Jedi." I think that's were Johnson's blank canvas could come in. He could be going back to Snoke's story when he was younger and in that period of the "Prime Jedi's". The reason I didn't completely agree with this idea is that, to the average viewer it may be hard to understand. But I also believe, if anyone were able to connect the average viewer to this idea of Prime Jedi's and all the whimsical stuff about the force involved, Johnson can definitely pull it off after watching TLJ.
I hope you guys didn't mind this post being to long(As it could have been very easily summed up in a few words), I have simply no one to discuss Star Wars without outside of the internet, so I'm going kind of insane!! I also had some more Ideas to write about, but during writing I lost them and am starting to confuse myself lol. Hope you guys enjoyed reading this, may the force be with you :)

TLDR: Snoke's boring death and mysterious past are a setup for Rian Johnson's newly announced trilogy.

    Grow up man.
I get it, you didn't like this film. That's fine but this is petulant whining at it's highest.
    Watch Looper or Brick.
He made a critically loved film. A film that clearly has fans talking. A film that is gonna make insane money.

He's a better director than 90% of them working.

Or the entirety of Breaking Bad up to "Ozymandias", followed by "Ozymandias" (which serves as the emotional climax to the dozens of episodes preceding it) and the episodes that come after.

One of the finest hours of dramatic television ever produced. And he directed every single shot.

I get the impression his trilogy will be something new entirely. Can't wait to hear more about it really.

The issue I have with this current trilogy is that it's evident there isn't one person steering the story throughout. Rian directing the first of the trilogy then overseeing parts 2 & 3 will hopefully work and gel things together a little better.
