Rian Johnsosn: Rey's parents question is still open

I honestly don't care anymore...

 

Could the timing of this semi back track be because JJ just pitched Episode IX to Disney? Could JJ have pitched something that changes Rians story? It seems like since Rian had a little fun undoing JJs work, JJ may do the same in return. If true, it’s kind of funny.

 

This debate needs to be put to rest. Rey isn't a nobody, but she came from nobodies. Just like Anakin, Yoda, Mace, Ahsoka, etc., etc., etc.

Agreed. How they could be so haphazard with something so pop-culturally important, I have no idea.

And that scares me. Because she is the captain of the ship but she seems to be letting the wheel spin in whatever direction will yield good PR, good merch sales, and "whatever" for the films/media itself. =( It should be the other way around. A great attention to the media will generate good PR and merch on its own. I know that's harder to do, and riskier, but, that's why they make the big bucks, right?

 

The story group is only known for one thing: Pablo Hidalgo's tweets.

Because the story isn't pre-written. It's a cheap bait and flip. It's a way to keep interest in ep9. Don't kid yourselves, LFL is still interested in getting that 30% back to watch again if they can.

One thing that has been overlooked in these discussions about Rey and threads that refer to fan backlash, is that those who are not backlashing, likely won't if they revert back to Rey being a Skywalker. But if they revert back to Rey being a Skywalker, they may get some of that 30% back on board.

The 70% has already proven they are willing to "forgive" or "accept" or even be excited about a lot. So if they flip Rey back to being a Skywalker, will the 70% who like TLJ really rebel? Or is it a no lose situation that by reverting her back to being a Skywalker, they keep the 70% and regain a portion, possibly a large portion of the 30% who are dissatisfied by the explanations so far.

By not writing the script in advance, maybe LFL and Disney are just gauging how to maximize their profits.

It's obvious to anyone who's honest with themselves that TLJ is doing great financially, but Solo isn't getting much love and ep9 may suffer a backlash. It's not that ep9 won't turn a profit, but is it worth it for Disney to stick to a story and lose all that money moving forward when they can keep those who are liking this now as well as regain those who have been complaining about TLJ for over 2 weeks now?

Rian needs to stop doing interviews, he’s just putting his foot in his mouth st this point.

 

He keeps repeating the same things.
How is he putting his foot in his mouth by saying that nothing is set in stone?

 

Seems to me people are more concerned that the story meets each ones expectations and not really if it's just a good damn story. This goes for both sides.

So a) She knew and Rian Johnson essentially told the story that JJ started and b) People just didn't bloody listen!

 

She can remain a nobody but we can still explore her parentage. I buy that her parents were nobody drunkards; I don't buy that they're buried on Jakku somewhere. I'm betting at least one parent is still alive somewhere.

 

I could actually see Mark having some fun (as only Mark can with his wonderful brand of inclusive humor) with this parentage in IX during one of his Force Ghost conversations with Rey...

Luke: Ben never told you the truth about your parents.

Rey: He told me enough. He said they were nobody.

Luke: No, Rey. I am your father. And Leia...

Rey looks utterly complexed. Her jaw drops.

Luke: Just kidding! You should have seen your face!

Rey takes a moment to let it sink in, then laughs nervously.

Luke: Yes, of course! But even for a Jedi there's time to laugh. And you know what? That's one of the secrets they don't tell you in those ancient manuscripts. Don't take yourself too seriously, don't get so complacent and blindly faithful to your powers, and you'll be a wiser Jedi than most.

I wish people would read all of the clues not just the ones that back up what they want to hear. There is a reason that Rey Nobody is getting mentoring from Han, Luke and Leia. It's sad that IX will not show her time with Leia. But it's all there. Rey is going to be the one to pass down the legacy of our beloved heroes. There's a whole galaxy of nobodies ready to be inspired by them, especially when the messenger is a nobody who became somebody.

lolz. What a sh*t show. They're just making it up as they go. Finger in the air to see which way the wind blows. Next we'll hear that Luke, Snoke, & Han could still be alive from a "certain point of view." A word of advice RJ: for your trilogy, plan the entire story out ahead of time.
