Indeed, he is a great character but terrible as the main antagonist, you can't make the hero defeat the main antagonist on the first film of a trilogy, with TFA the excuse was he was wounded, now in TLJ we see that Rey has the same or even better combat skills than him in the throne room fight.

yup as it stands there is no sigificant threat in terms of force users for the final installment. in the OT you had both Vader (badass) and the Emperor (presumably even more badass) but they've left the second movie open without any sort of narrative hook besides some lame thing about a handful of resistance on the run. I presumed they would get far more into lore about the force but even that part as empty, highly simplified and almost irrelevant, besides the stuff Snoke was talking about.

it's like they are just rebooting the story each time around, or seems that way. and unless it was planned (and there's only really one character who can tie it all together) whatever JJ comes up with will feel artificial, like a deliberate retcon. at the least there's no tension as it stands, subvert the normal trilogy structure sure, but also cut out the vilian, i dunno, they've messed with the formula too much, for my taste.

Disagree, at least for now. Leading up to TLJ I did a marathon wath with a friend who hadn't seen a single film. After ROTJ they turn to me and say "Why is there more? That seems like a good ending?" That's still a question I have and struggle with but I tell myself that we won't fully know the answer until 9 is out. Always in motion is the future.

Well she’s definitely not a Skywalker or Solo so what would the point be anyway? And if they decided that her parents were not bad folk, where would that take the story? No where. It’s done. The truth has been revealed. Rey has always been a no one.

Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

He was fired over "creative differences." I wonder if Rey's parentage was that creative difference and he disagreed with KK and Lucasfilm/Disney on the answer??? Just some thoughts/speculation.

    It’s always “creative differences”.
