Rogue One....Our First SW war movie and the feelings behind it

To meR1 sounds like a code name for a PERSON but it would be cool for I t to be in the same vein as Saving Private Ryan .

 

Speaking of what feelings we want to get from Rogue One, I'm hoping we'll get something that really puts a face on some of the nameless people in Star Wars (although I shouldn't say nameless because it seems every SW character has a name). Rogue One reminds me of the Republic Commando book series in that they both deal with the everyday soldiers in the war. Hopefully they'll finally get their time to shine.

 

Or the Republic Commando Videogame? It was a good one don't you think? As for me I'm very hype with R1, and like very much the dark tone. I'm hoping that'll be like the Republic Commando's books and game or that new SW novel (Twilight Company)

 

Battlefront Twilight Company was actually the first Star Wars book I've read in several years. I kind of dropped out after the Traviss Republic Commando series came to an end. And you're right, that book is the tone they should look for in this new movie. Let's give the everyday soldiers a chance to be in the spotlight.

 

Though I really don't know how Disney will give us the story in this movie, I always thought that Rogue One would be the SW movie with the deepest feeling. This of course because I always thought we might be seeing people on a doomed mission. I believe that RO can in fact be very emotional as we see these characters risk it all for their mission. Many of them might return home and it the story is good then RO can turn out to be a great SW movie. I do have my fears though as this can also turn out to be just another action cash grab where everyone survives in order to use them in other movies if the characters are liked by the fans so I guess we will just have to wait and see. I expect some people to die in the movie but I don't think Disney is going to kill their main lead as she may turn out to be another Disney Princess like Rey was in TFA.

 

Man! If this is a STAR wars movie with the vibe of those two classics, we are all in for a treat!!!

 

First Star Wars war movie? Really?? Every movie in the saga has war and conflict in it. I don't see anything new here. Or is it a way of covering up for lack of fresh storytelling, compelling characters, etc. I just hope this isn't Battlefront in movie form.

 

I'm guessing the question is how do we think we are going to feel when we see the movie?

Personally I won't know until I've actually seen it but if I can offer anything up to this point based on what I've read and the little I've seen is that I get a good vibe about it. Looks gritty, retro, more....adult and the general story it will tell is pretty much established - not much room to mess it up. It will be all about screen delivery OT character and story weaving that will make it or break it. The effects no doubt will be amazing.

From the little tease I've seen I'm really looking forward to this one as opposed to the vibe I got with the TFA trailer when I first saw it.

Im really excited for this movie..

As a Star Wars fan from the 1980's ive longed to see the universe expand, no Skywalker, no Solo but a completely fresh group of people.. Ive read books, ive play the games but most still want to bring up Luke or Vader etc.. and ive hated that personally.. I hope this movie breaks many records and then more movies like this are made...

 

My wish for this movie is to be basically two kinds of movies into one.

In the first half, make it a Mission Impossible movie: gather the team, plan the infiltration, do the mission, have the personal drama, etc.
And then, Vader enters the picture and the tone changes. It is now a horror/survive story of the likes of Alien and Predator. Vader is the creature they must face and outsmart and of course, they don't do it; they fall one by one until only Jyn remains and she has to use whatever skills she got during her lonely life to escape him.
