I read this article earlier today. Funnily enough, he mentioned something I've wondered -- about publicity. The rampaging rumours at his time sound almost too excessive. Disney is not even addressing them, partially because I'm sure they want to have this additional promotion for Rogue One. We're just feeding the machinery and increasing the public awareness of the movie, something R1 has maybe struggled a bit especially en par with Saga films.

Yes, but why do the Disney execs want a reshoot for this particular movie? Does anyone know?

Who said the page6 report was right? there are many things in the last days that contradicts their report.

Only they know. That's my point. We may never know why. All we'll know is what we're given. They don't have to justify every decision they make with all the fans. Perhaps this was a decision that was made last year and it's only going public now.
We don't know why The Dark Knight did reshoots. Or why any other movie does reshoots. The only reason this is a big deal to some is because they think someone is in the wrong. Whether it be the filmmakers or Disney or Lucasfilm. Many people don't understand that reshoots are just part of making every movie.

Ok, so when you have conflicts like this, you look at the publication and do some educated guesswork as to just where those sources are. A general rule of thumb I personally use is how legacied the media pub is. EW is likely going to 'cocktail' with higher tiers in companies. Younger pubs like LR are likely grabbing lower hanging fruit, who are regurgitating the corporate rumor mill or reporting from their limited view within company.

So no one knows why the Disney execs had ordered a reshoot.

True. And you just have to think like an Exec. and maybe some ideas will come crawl out.

I dont like that move. But not even me can say how and what is changed in Rogue One by that whole Re-shoot order from high-up by now.

You could also take a look at company's recent history in dealing with authors and its independent companies - Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm all have their own leadership and so far that seems to be working just fine. There were rumors that JJ was fighting with Disney too, but:

JJ reshot all Finn and Rey's scenes during the official break after Harrison was hurt because the scenes weren't working. The difference is that we didn't know about it. Still people panicked that movie wasn't going to be released in time. Imagine if we all knew that they weren't just shooting around Ford's scenes but changing things that were already done.

    Panic_gif.gif

We are never going to know what exactly happened. Maybe the reshoots were always planned (as EW reported - just pushed to from spring to summer because the cast is so large), maybe Edwards got notes from execs (including Kennedy) in a perfectly normal manner - after all, they too are making movies all their lives, maybe there were problems... - we are never going to know.

The Celebration London will be the first thing that will tell us which of these things is closer to the truth. If Edwards and Kennedy appear as announced and we get a full trailer, I think we can rest this topic. I suspect we will see Vader, everyone will lose their minds and things will go back to usual business until December and the movie release - which is the only important thing. Then we can debate about THAT. :D

Hopefully, this drama has blown off a bit...

Here are my thoughts: the director made Godzilla and Godzilla was good in an epidermic, shallow way: good action scenes/sequences, bad characters/interaction/story. The main strengths of Star Wars, on the other hand, and on the contrast with what some people may believe, was always story, interaction and characters, with action being the garnish.

In other words, I always believed that they got a bad choice of director for this movie. Yes, he's very good showing scope, but this story is first and foremost about people. Nothing new will be revealed to us regarding the Death Star (which would require the scope thing), but we will see the team that stole the plans. The people, the team is the focus here, not the weapon. By hiring a director whose interactive scenes were mediocre at best, whoever is in charge of these movies sabotaged it. As such, when I heard that what is being re-shot were dialogue scenes, I felt as my feelings towards the director were confirmed. Rogue One was shaping up to be another Godzilla (strong action, bad interaction and story) and Star Wars cannot stand without the latter (the prequels are hated exactly because of these flaws, even though the action was cool-looking), so the executives saw the flaws and decided to fix them using the already scheduled reshoots.

And I would approve of it if that's indeed the case. I'll take good character arcs over any kind of gore in Star Wars (war movie or not) any day.

Actually, the rumor is that they had planned on filming then (and the cast had their schedules set around it), but waited closer to the release date so they could get a better assembly cut.

Which, again, does nothing to suggest that the movie was a mess. If it were, then they would have utilized those reshoots regardless of whether or not the assembly cut was done. There are dailies for a reason, you know.

THey were definitely NOT ordered...what was ordered was what they noted should have been reshot in the window that was set aside from the start when they wrote their budgets on their top sheets with their line producers so it's more of WHAT was shot and not WHY it was shot.

lets make a list of why it is happening.....

1.New young Han solo cameo picks up Jyn with the death star plans and who ever else is left with her for kicks, and to introduce us to the new Han solo.
2.More Vader, or they had to tune it down with Vader.
3.They wanted to do more with Donnie Yen's character.
    4.Deleted scenes?
    5.????

here is what I think regarding your list. its a good one since majority of the list i agree except...
    1. I dont want to see Han Solo in R1 since its ends 10mins before ANH. being in R1 then back into the fight to me would not be to my liking. I rather see a Lando or Boba.
    2. More Vader I agree. We need to see him more since he doesnt do as much in the OT and only at the end of RoTS. Good that he is in Rebels and the LoTS novel give us a good amount of Vader. Love to see him damage fighters in flight with the force like LoTS.
    3. I saw/read something about Yen's character being a former Royal Guard. That would be dope. He is wearing some type of red clothing. Just something I saw and interested me.
    4. Deleted scenes from the OT? that would be sick if they added a few tarkin or i think it might be towards the end since it falls 10mins before ANH.
    5. Senator Organa telling Leia about Obi-Wan Kenobi scene...
