That 'tone' report was depressing as hell. Looks like this particular film is getting gutted to please the money hungry suits at Disney. I thought they promised that they weren't going to interfere with Lucasfilm? This is exactly what happened to 'Exposed.' The suits didn't think a psychological thriller would make enough money so they gutted the film and turned it into a run of the mill detective film that of course bombed.

Leave it to the filmmakers ffs.

You are jumping to conclusions. You have zero evidence that this happened and instead you're listening to the media that created a click-bait headline.

The only reason I won't dislike your comment is because of your amazing American Dad referenced username.

I went over to Making Star Wars to see if there was any truth to this, and the answer seems to be yes, but it's probably not as dire as we think.

First, it's Disney people who are upset. There's a world of difference between some Disney investor who doesn't even know what the Death Star is and who is grumbling over that dumb sci-fi movie spending more of Mickey's money than he would like, than over somebody at Lucasfilm being concerned over the story's role in canon, and whether or not the story fits with what Star Wars is.

Second, even if the film didn't test well, that still means that there is a completed version of this film. The cast and crew has been working their butts off, and there is a completed version of the film to perfect and polish until December. And in the world of filmmaking, that's an eternity. The sound guys working on the LotR trilogy were still working on sound mixing for RotK right up until hours before the film had to be shipped for distribution in time for the premier.

For f- sakes, they knew what they were getting when they picked Gareth Edwards to helm it. Why can't the 'a Star Wars story' movies lean a bit darker/sci-fi compared to the mainline movies.

I blame Joss Whedon for this. Age of Quiptron is a cinematic travesty. We already had 5 Whedon-isms in TFA that took me out of the movie.

Why are Hollywood executives the dumbest motherfuckers in existence?

I agree on making sure that the tones of the two movies have to match.

Seems more like an excuse not to do anything different to me with a non-mainline movie.

Not sure if someone already mentioned/asked this but was this just Disney board members or was the story group involved with asking for the reshoots?

I was really hoping for that war/heist movie we all kept hearing about. I didn't necessarily want or need extra comedy or levity. I hope the suits don't ruin this film...

Of all the follow ups yesterday, this one seems to make the most sense, especially if LFL and Disney execs discussed it with Edwards and they are all of the same mindset moving forward. Contrary to the click bait that was the Page Six "scoop", the sky is NOT falling, and is a normal reshoot for polishing purposes.

Guess what would have happend to StarWars (1977) if they didn't reshoot for months and stay in the editing room till the last second. I wonder if we would be talking about a multiple-decade old saga or a B-trash movie in space, that had so much potential..
STar Wars worked at its best when multiple individuals worked together. More eyes, can see more..

    You forgot Marcia (Griffin) Lucas.

The world is ignorant when it comes to understanding what she brought to the Original Trilogy.

FFC: - I heard a neat thing once, that during Star Wars, Lucas was Luke-
    -and by the time of
Return of the Jedi, he was Jabba the Hutt.

    Mark Hamill:
    - He's in his own world. He's like William Randolph Hearst or Howard Hughes, he's created his own world and he can live in it all the time. You really see that in his films, he's completely cut off from the rest of world. You can see a huge difference in the films that he does now and the films that he did when he was married. I know for a fact that Marcia Lucas was responsible for convincing him to keep that little "kiss for luck" before Carrie [Fisher] and I swing across the chasm in the first film: "Oh, I don't like it, people laugh in the previews," and she said, "George, they're laughing because it's so sweet and unexpected"--and her influence was such that if she wanted to keep it, it was in. When the little mouse robot comes up when Harrison and I are delivering Chewbacca to the prison and he roars at it and it screams, sort of, and runs away, George wanted to cut that and Marcia insisted that he keep it. She was really the warmth and the heart of those films, a good person he could talk to, bounce ideas off of, who would tell him when he was wrong. Now he's so exalted that no one tells him anything.

I hear ya, but I'm not one to say the food was bad before I've tasted it let alone before the turkey goes in the oven. Just hoping for the best you know. That's all I can do.

Trying to recapture that feeling when you first fall in love. (ANH). Sure times have changed, we've grown older, different journeys, tastes and preferences have matured and evolved, but I'm still a romantic :)

Disney needs to leave the man alone and let him make his movie as long as it get's it's PG-13 rating and isn't a pile of burning trash.

A serious war movie can have it's moments of levity. Case in point:
