Rogue One Reviews (Spoiler Free)

God damn - it will be hard to avoid spoilers, for me it will be challenging 30 hours till Rogue One screening.
Hype is at enormous level...in Poland for 14.12 most cinemas are 90% filled with audience.

 

9am PST is 5pm GMT, right?

 

I think the embargo has been lifted. THR just posted their review at 12:00 PM.

 

Mashable did as well. It's 5 GMT | 12 EST | 9 PST

 

THR liked it, but didn't love it. Reasons not too clear.

I want to read it but I'm gonna try to wait until after I see it on Thursday. Thanks though.

 

For what it is worth, Peter Travers at Rolling Stone gave it 3.5 stars out of 4. And I generally despise Travers.

 

Nice so Collider and I had basically the same score. That's neat! I agree with basically everything they said.

 

Stuckmann's review is weird, in particular his negatives, and also uncharacteristically spoilerific... something must've rubbed him the wrong way on his way to the screening I guess. Kind of reminds me of last year when he said the TFA score was terrible.

 

What I find interesting about Stuckmann's review is how he says that he didn't find anything surprising about the movie even though he had avoided all rumours and speculation. Yet there are other review which urge you to remain spoiler free as there are a number of big surprises. The Collider crew for instance get particularly caught up in speculation and picking the trailers apart yet they think the movie has plenty of surprises.

 

I totally disagree with Colliders review about the movies music score. I loved it myself. I see their points but for me it didn't take away from the overall experience.

They make a point about a certain scene when Krennic enters the room and the music swells up. I was more focused on what was going on when the music itself, but in saying that, i didn't find it took away or anything. But the music during the credits is wonderful and is worth staying for just to listen to.

 

Were the early reviews for TFA pretty much all positive?

 

I recall they ran mostly positive along the 70-80% range. There were some initial hold outs though that gave some negative reviews. All in all I would say the ratio seems just about the same but from reading the character of the complaints they appear drastically different in nature.

 

The complaints for TFA were much more along the lines of "this is the same blast as ANH."

These seem more along the lines of "too much inside baseball," with a few "it's cluttered" in between.

83% on Rotten Tomatoes. I expect it to rise too, based off what it did today. I predict it ends at like 87% based on how reviews usually up and down tick.

I was expecting a 78-80%, because I think far more non-Star Wars fans will hate it. Last year TFA was loved by many who treated it as their entry to the saga.

 

Oh my. The small group of folks who do NOT like Rogue One have some crazy reviews. A few understandable views, but most have some stupid ass comments.

Films are subjective, see it for yourself. Personally the spoiler filled review I watched set me free.
