I loved the movie. But that is the fan in me talking. A nostalgic one that is in melancholic sort of state until ep. 8 comes out.

Cuz when I look at it objectively there is not much I disagree with this kiddo:

    She's brutal.

I saw R1 for the second time last night and I have to say that I enjoyed it little bit more the second time. Saw's performance was not as bad as I initially thought. I still could do without Bor Gullett. I went into this one trying to be critical of CGI Tarkin and try to find things wrong with it. As I am not a visual effects guru, I thought it was good. Overall, I thought it was another great SW movie.

It is tough for me to compare it to TFA because they were trying to serve two different purposes. TFA is the first part of a three part series plus it had to introduce people back to the world of SW. R1 was a self contained story focusing on a singular event. In the end, I enjoyed TFA more because it left me wanting more. Some of that comes from it being the first of 3. Some of that also happens because they killed off all the characters we became attached to in R1. ROTJ all though it gave the feeling of finality, still left me with wanting more. With R1 I am more interested in finding out more about Cassian's, Chirrut and Baze's backstory but not with the same intensity as with TFA.
In the end though, Gareth and Lucasfilm did a great job and I am very pleased with the movie. It is great time to be a SW fan. Now let's bring on episode VIII.

She is. That is why I like her. Her videos are funny, insightful and have this delightful early-Youtube video quality.

I love Rogue One. Even though I do not agree with everything, the review is very original and imaginative as opposed to the majority of positive and negative reviews out there.

i really like her stuff also. she's funny, but also very savvy.

i feel similarly ~ on second watch i enjoyed it much more, but it doesn't compare to TFA for me.

Yeah. TFA is so much more intense. In all counts.
I did like the romance angle here....you know...being a tragic one. It is not emmotionally satisfying, nor marketable to rehash stuff in such high stakes movies :D

And I liked the robot best!! Lol...has nothing to do with him being played by a white male :p
It's like the girl says...his death is the most intense...and people get to care for him cuz his arc is the best!

I just hate that they couldn't make it work somehow that jyn and cassian run away somewhere and abandon rebelion cuz they gave their dues and were so thouroghly disapointed with them?

Wow, people are so, so different. That kid always annoyed me to no end and her voice grates on my nerves so, so much. I never even chuckle during her videos let alone laugh. There is always something snide in her tone that even if she has some kind of insight, it goes right over my head. I couldn't go pass the 4-minute mark. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I personally don't like RLM. There's something in their humour that doesn't connect with me at all.

i agree she's got an annoying voice, but it feels like a gimmick, which makes it acceptable in the way mr. plinklett is tolerable in spite of his grossness.
she's playing a character of "the fool" and i can appreciate that.

i'm okay with them dying. i just wanted the movie to be longer.
still think this could have easily been a cool short-run tv series (6 episodes or something) and just let us have more time with the characters.

I dunno who she is. A friend that didn't like the movie send the link to me. At first I was like...yeah right you are just grasping for straws, the movie is great and Felicity kicksass....but then i looked at the video and was kinda...okay she may have a point...

    @FN-3263827
Yeah...i think more time or less characters would be a good step in the direction of making us care more. Me at least. :)

But I'm a fan. I liked the movie. No matter the weak points. However will not watch it not even nearly as I watch tfa...or PTs...or OTs :D

I agree. Wanted to watch it through, but in addition to what you said, I really don't agree with her points. One small example- that Jyn doesn't respond emotionally to Saw's death. If that's really a complaint, then HTF do you explain Leia in SW after Alderaan is destroyed?

I can't believe I forgot to mention the absolutely best thing in R1!!!
Not the interracial love story or diversity of characters or throwing in our faces the ambiguity of rebel movement actions and methods of fighting a war that makes you dirty (allthough all these were great!!)

    IT WAS THIS:
They made Vader sexy!!! As hell!! Not Ani or pre suit Vader....but actual Vader...the one in a funny suit and ugly helmet that throughout OT moves looked like someone put a stick up his but and whose swordfighting skills were a shadow of PT Ani's...

    VADER IS SEXY IN R1!!!
oh my how awesome did he look when he relentlessly moved through the army of rebels wiping them out of the face if this earth like flies??!!
(I may or may not have issues....deal with it, but no one can't say that scene was not awesome :p)

One thing I notice about some of these reviews is people saying they liked it better on second or third viewing. That's strange because how many movies do people watch multiple times. Most movies get one shot and whatever opinion you form on one viewing is going to be it. So are people talking themselves into enjoying the movie?

My experience is that most of SW nerds like us go into every SW movie with certain expectations - which are almost never going to be met by filmmakers. The second or third viewing is giving them the opportunity to take in the movie they actually got and decide whether they like it or not. Star Wars is not like any other movie and Star Wars fans will watch even the worst SW movie more than once. Sometimes it will lead them to like it more, sometime less.

I wouldn't say so. Your opinion on the film is very much based on your expectations and if they are too high, every movie is a disappointment, even the best ones. Also, watching a film in a certain mood can diminish your enjoyment of it, i. e. for the first time I watched Inside Out I was stressed out about my final exams' results and only the second time I was able to fully enoy this piece of cinematic mastery. The same could happen for some of these reviewers. Also, during your second or third viewing you are able to notice more things and appreciate filmmakers' work more.

I'm sure if you ask around, there will be people who have tried to talk themselves into liking TPM and AOTC and have still failed at it, even after 15 years. Almost 20 from TPM!!!! We carry too much baggage into the theater as fans to just enjoy and reflect later. I think a plurality of fans over-analyze at first, and then go back and enjoy the visualization of Vader killing a hallway full of dudes, Red and Gold Leader after 40 years, etc. I think we can love that, and love TFA's lightsaber fights and Poe Dameron and Han and Chewie and still criticize a bit (still probably too much).

I love Rogue One, more than the new trilogy. Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor are two great characters. Planets are well presented, I was tired about the desert. I peronally fell in love with Scarif. The last 15 minutes of the movie were fantastic. Darth Vader and Princess Leia were great.
The only thing I didn't understand is why Jin did't take his father's message from Saw Gerrera. Instead of talking with him, take the message with you and show it to the rebellion. What's wrong with it? There was plenty of time, cut the speech and flee before the planet is destroyed.

The most unique Star Wars movie of the bunch.....yet it still resonates with me. The speech in the shuttle before Scarif is raw courage beyond nearly anything seen before in SW (OK maybe the first Death Star assault). They had to know they were all going to die on that mission, yet they continued without question. Reminded me a lot of the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo , April 18, 1942.
