    Hey guys!

Not sure if anyone is reading all these "leaks" confirming Baze and Churrit as a same sex couple, wanted to see the general thoughts about this one.

    Article
    http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...irrut-imwe-baze-malbus-finn-poe-a7484271.html

Massive first of all, I do not care in the slightest either way but I raise this point because one of our mates is gay and he actually said when I showed him this ,"Why though? What's the point of stating they're gay without a linkage in the movie, they don't bring out articles confirming Cassian is straight"

Which got me thinking, you know, when Poe and Finn made their on screen bromance, people where like "Yep, they're gay, hands down", haha, or they probably just have a bromance, I hug my mates when they buy me a beer without asking and none of them have saved me from a First Order planet, I do like beer though!

Now with Baze and Churrit, they're saying because lines like "I don't need luck, I have you".... and their death scene blah blah, seems like people are trying to find something out of nothing....

I feel like, maybe in our day and age if it's that big of a deal, just make a character gay, it is what it is, why make it like a hidden subtext..... Personally I think they're just two guys that have seen some sh*t together and they're lik family to each other!

What's you thoughts? Think there is anything to it?

/Some people might find this topic uncomfy which is fine, we don't all share the same views, just please keep in mind to be respectful/ :)

from the moment i saw those two and their interaction, i knew somebody was going to bring it up.
if people want to believe they're gay, whatever. it's irrelevant to the story.

Cassian and Jyn aren't "in love" with each other, but they hug at the end because we're all human and need connections.
whatever anybody wants to make of the connection between Chirrut and Baze, it's there for interpretation. maybe even deliberately so.
but yeah, i don't know why anybody needs to make a thing of it.

edit: My Lord, i was not suggesting that this is not worthy of discussion or is a bad topic (in case my post reads that way), i just meant that people will politicize things to death and consequently suck all the fun out of it. part of the fun of Star Wars, to me, is filling in the gaps, building on what we're given (which in the olden days wasn't much).

i don't need Baze and Chirrut's relationship explained. it's beautiful just as it is.

Whether they are gay or straight or bi or whatever has no impact on their story. Their deep connection, their friendship, is beautiful and meaningful on its own. But, if people want to see more in it, I am all right with it, because it doesn't take away anything from them and, for some people, it might actually add to it.

In any case, I LOVED THEM. When Baze looks back at Chirrut's body in the moment of his own death... :(

They are one with the Force and Force is with them.

Baze's and Chirrut's characters were so well done. Their deaths were emotional.

They are Bros not gay. I didn't feel any sexual allusion between these two. You can have friends and not have sex with them ...

Jyn and Cassian hug when they are going to die. I think I would have done the same.

As a Chinese-American, I can say that in terms of Chinese culture, the behavior of Chirrut and Baze are typical of the behavior of persons who relied on each other for survival. I didn't see anything romantic between them.

Now the stereotypical Chinese fortune teller is a blind person. So it's interesting that Chirrut was blind and acted as a fortune teller when he was first introduced in the movie.

Oh massive, I think for me, I more like to try and know as much about characters as I can, and I couldn't disagree more when we hear, "It's not relevant" to the story, it's so relevant, and that moment where Churrit lays dying, already makes me tear up a bit. If I knew that was their back story as well, oh gosh, all about the water works train! But, that's me though, I want to know as much as I can about it. Now, if they never plan to expand their stories, okay maybe it doesn't matter. But if they do, I wanna know so I can learn about it.

But I couldn't agree more, their connection is amazing. Either way.

This reminds me of how Tumblr took Steve Rodgers and Bucky Barnes and immediately made them a gay couple as soon as they showed Cap care about his best friend.

I've been outspoken in my support of homosexuals being involved in SW lore, and maybe this is it, but just because two men show care and concern for one another, it doesn't make them gay and treating it this way honestly belittles the point.

i guess my point is: if them being gay would make it so much more for you, isn't it awesome you get to decide that and experience it in your own way?
instead of someone coming in an definitively putting a stake in it? especially a stake that you don't like or that doesn't resonate for you?

the OT was so glorious in its universality. i think one of the great beauties of R1 is that it preserved some of that (in its treatment of the Force, in not explaining everything, in suggesting rather than telling, etc.).

Yeah 100%, and like mentioned before, if they don't expand their stories, then yeah I would be happy with my imagination on their relationship/ friendship either way! Just my preference would be to know :p cause I am sticky beak I guess hehe

I'm always 100% skeptical if not outright dismissive of anyone who feels the need to make the orientation of heroes or villains an issue one way or the other. The kind of folks that need that defined for them are not focused on what is important to the story and are not ready to learn the lessons of said story. They should be focused on getting past grade school first.

Stories like this are more about politics, than the movie. I got absolutely no homosexual vibe from these two characters. As others have said, what is on display is the caring between two human beings that have been through hell together and rely on each other. If that is supposed to mean they are gay, I guess practically all soldiers in all war movies are gay. People with political agendas try to convince other people to see things that are not there.

I find a lot of the content in the article laughable. Only because I feel like people are always trying to find something they can cause like you said a political agenda. I believe if this was the intended outcome of this characters, then happy days. But it's funny you say that GotTheSilver, I was joking with one of my mates and I said "Oi did you hear all the dude from Saving Private Ryan where, like gay" everyone laughed but like you said, soldiers have a bond that is connected tighter than family! Maybe people are reading that wrong.

It's Star Wars.. do we really need to sexualize it? I mean I don't care either way if Chirrut/Baze, Poe/Finn or Hera/Sabine swing that way or not. Is it relevant? If it were, I think they'd make it blatantly clear

I dont get articles like this. It's like saying, "SURPRISE! Luke Skywalker is straight!! :O" It should be a non-issue IF it was true but we would have gotten some sort of an explanation instead vague hints as to what is and what isn't. If they bring it up then it should have to do with the overall story, which I doubt it is.

That's exactly what my mate was getting at, like, why make it a hidden subtext (If true), just make it a thing. Don't wrap it in hidden mystery, if it is what it is, make it so haha. I 100% do not think they are just because like we said, I feel it would have been obvious if it was so and in my opinon it wasn't obvious at all....
