Regardless of it is or isn't true it's Disney trying to be politically correct while failing at it at the same timeat .

Honestly, if Disney could implement some actually well done gay characters, that'd be pretty cool. This stuff with "secret" gay characters is just... well, it's really in the closet.

Either way, though, I didn't get this impression from the film at all. They worked at the temple together. The "I have you" line was more like "You have my back" not "Let's get hitched". I mean, I guess there's nothing disproving the theory, either, but it just seems kind of like people are reading too much into this, .

    WAY too much.

Rogue One was by far the least romance-oriented of any Star Wars film to date. We didn't even see much of anything between Jyn and Cassian until the very end of the film, and even then it still seemed mostly platonic.

Baze and Chirrut were about as "romantically" linked as Han and Chewie were. And I sure never noticed any "pitcher or catcher" discussions going on about Han and Chewie back in the day. But, to rip off Mr. Zimmerman, as a culture I suppose that "We were so much older then, we're younger than that now."

Its a sad statement about the world when a friendship between two fictional characters who have a long-term friendship and who both happen to be male is interpreted as an "obvious" homosexual relationship....

First we had Finn & Po and now this? come on, let it go...

First I want to state for the record that I am not homophobic, but I cannot see a gay couple ever being a prominent theme in a Star Wars movie. Why? Well at the risk of sounding like Donald Trump, it's China.

The Chinese film market is huge and lucrative. Deliberately provoking Chinese censorship laws is Hollywood suicide.

Star Wars is a family-friendly franchise and, as such, the Chinese film censors would frown on any portrayal of homosexuality that was, until very recently in China, illegal and classed as a mental illness.

Disney are appealing to Asian audiences by featuring Asian actors more prominently - why would they then risk censorship?

It's not prejudice, it's not homophobia, it purely and simply down to money.

It's funny how people these days can't seem to be able to look at any close friendship without thinking oh those people are gay. Chirrut and Baze share a close brotherhood and they are gay, Poe and Finn created a good friendship so they're gay, Elsa didn't get a boyfriend in Frozen then she's a lesbian ect. I wish people would give it a rest already. Makes me wonder if these people look at Chewie and Han's relationship and assume they might at least be bisexual. I have good male friends that our relationship has been from childhood and we had even stayed over and slept in the same bed when we were younger and none of us was gay and I had a female friend that I loved her like a sister and we used to do everything together and people would always be saying that we HAD to be in some sort of relationship and it was nothing like that. Wonder why these days two guys or two gals can't have a true loving friendship without being pegged as gay.

People also have to realize that 'shipping' Baze and Chirrut (or Poe and Finn or any other two characters of same sex - I have seen Leia and Evaan) is a matter of representation - when there is no one like you on screen, you make some of the characters like you.

Star Wars is universally loved story by all kinds of people from all over the world, hopefully it will reflect that universal love in the future.

This so much. They started doing that in other canonical stories (personally, Sinjir is one of my favorite SW characters), but the movies are still seemingly closed to that.

What would be the point of having homosexual characters in a PG rated film primarily marketed at children anyway?

because it's the new normal and it's not anything "bad" and "inappropriate" showing to kids if done right...just dont do it to existing beloved characters..

The same as having heterosexual characters in a PG (13) film primarily marketed at children.

I think the difference is a realistic representation of our world or not.

I don't see any reason why we should know sexual preferences of Star Wars characters, nor do I see how that helps the story.
Star Wars movies always had minimal and subtle romance. There were barely a few kisses between the characters in all 7 saga movies.
Some say that Star Wars galaxy is full of diversity and I agree on that, but I want culture and alien diversity, not someone's sexual preferences.
I hope that Disney won't succumb to all those aggressive groups who want to push their own (political) agendas into literally everything, and for that matter, into Star Wars movies.
If being gay is critical for the story, make it right and tight so it makes sense. But if you want a gay character just to satisfy someones real world agendas, then I do not agree.
Star Wars has always been my escape from a reality ever since I was a child. If I want some "real diversity" I will simply go to gay pride.

Sorry but it's not the same thing as nobody is going to throw a tantrum by seeing heterosexual characters in a children movie as they would with gay ones. I have homosexual family members and friends and I love them dearly but that does not cloud my way of seeing how most people see this kind of thing. It's the very same way as when you legalize drugs. You can legalize weed and yet parents would through a fit if their kids are watching Ninja Turtles and suddenly Casey and Raphael pull out a bong and start smoking before going to fight the bad guys. Even if weed were legal, do you have any idea how many parents would not allow their kids to see the TMNT show?

I fairly believe in having your own right to choose. I totally respect that anyone has the right to choose their own religion, sexual orientation, political view ect yet I would prefer these things being kept out of our entertainment as much of it is just forced and has nothing to do with the story except to please a few fans saying oh look we have gay characters now! Years ago we didn't care for these things and we just enjoyed our favorite movies. We didn't go to see Alien, Predator or Terminator and came back pissed off because there were no asians, latinos or black people in some movies or gays and lesbians in the other.

It's like real life. It wasn't blatant or anything. People are gay, straight, bi or whatever and you don't know. You may find out and it's just a small part of who they are. If it bugs you they are a gay couple, the problem isn't the movie.
