Picked up a copy of Rogue Squadron 2 for Gamecube a few weeks ago... Holy Hell, this game is HARD!!! I never had a GC, and as such never played this game. I did put in MANY hours with the original Rogue Squadron for N64, however. Similar in many ways, but VASTLY improved.

Playing on a Wii with a GC controller on a 46" HDTV, sitting on the floor like I was 12 years old with my NES. Its sort of perfect.

Normally a game this difficult would turn me off, but the missions are relatively short and they really encourage you to keep trying, refine your skills, find the secret powerups, and discover better ways of taking out the empire. Lots of cheat codes if you're just playing for fun and not concerned with being a total badass. Solid canonical missions, too. The attack against the Star Destroyer using a B-wing is epic, but the one I keep playing over and over again is Hoth. It's the ultimate realization of that scene in a video game. And the Endor assault? Amazing. This is a 14 year old game, but aside from the fact the gameplay is decidedly old-school, it holds up as a true classic.

If you have a dusty old Wii and a spare $10, I highly recommend you revisit this game.

Both of those games were awesome. try to find Rogue Squadron 3 Rebel Assault, it's even better and has 2 player co-op.

I'll be on the lookout. We have an amazing vintage gaming chain here in Austin that always has a nice stock of classics. I'd really like to get Battlefront working on my Mac, too. I think Aspire shut down the online functionality though.

I really wish they'd get back to making Star Wars fighter combat games for the new-gen systems. I have always been a huge fan of the Rogue Squadron games, and feel like LucasArts let a classic game concept just fade away when they stopped making them.

True, the key battle sequences from the movies have all been done, but that was at least a decade and two console generations ago. There are plenty of areas that could be explored that don't just rehash the previous fighter combat games. I've always thought that following a pilot from, say, a local militia fighter group from some Outer Rim backwater system through the twists and turns of his career that ultimately led him to fly for the Rebellion (or even the Empire!) could make for an excellent way of utilizing the new consoles' capabilities while keeping SW gaming fans in the cockpit, blasting their way through squadrons of enemy fighters, taking on capital ships, etc.

I sure hope we see something like this coming out at last, now that the SW franchise is gearing back up again.

Why isn't there a "droolling nerd" smiley when you need one? OMFG, Rogue Squadron on a 46" screen. That sounds amazing. I used to play it on my old 32" CRT TV, and that was incredible. The sense of scale that you got when playing the B-Wing mission was incredible, but definitely, the Hoth levels have always been the best, even back as far as Shadows of the Empire on the N64. I actually spent several separate entire days just playing that mission, trying to dive between the legs of multiple walkers without crashing or being shot down. Way too much fun. But yes, a next-gen console version of Rogue Squadron is LONG overdue. Someone e-mail Factor 5, quickly, and see if they fancy getting back together!

The replay value of those games is phenomenal. There's not a ton of missions, but they're mostly pretty fun and always challenging so it's easy to switch on the Wii, play a couple of rounds, and have a satisfying Star Wars/gaming experience.

The Rogue Squadron games most definitely hold up (except the foot missions in 3... ugh).

I still play this game on PC. Even went overboard with hacking and patching the game for a long time to finally run it on Windows 7.
Pitty the sequels were released on Game Cube, as except for Wii, me and my girlfriend are Sony devotes since Play Station 1 to 4.
I know that you can have GC controller and play it on Wii, but I am just too lazy to get GC controller and hunt down the games on ebay.

The game is best starfighter simulator of SW in my opinion and even in this age despite the old graphics, holds strong in gameplay.
The force is with this one.

Pitty that the Naboo spin-off wasn't that enjoyable and great. Didn't like that game a bit.

Classic Rogue. Such a awesome perfect game. Everything was right. They even captured that OT feel that's nearly impossible to harness. I also loved the HOTH missions, protecting the shield generators. Taking out AT-ATs with the harpoons. Amiss it a lot.

The graphics for Rogue Leader when it was released for the GameCube were ahead of its time. The gameplay and replay value on all three games was great with the medal system. Too bad Disney had to shut down Lucasarts and give all the rights to EA to make new Star Wars games

Ive actually been thinking about going out and buying an old gamecube and Rogue Squadron to give it a shot. I actually still have Rogue Squadron for the N64 and play it every bluemoon for nostalgia, and it's STILL not fully completed!!! Games were way more difficult back in the day than they are now in my opinion.
I want to get my hands on ANY Star Wars flying game i can find. I'm obsessed with aerial games as it is, but add an X-Wing or two and there goes my healthy sleep scheduel. Lol

It really is so much harder than I imagine. I tend to think that I'm a better gamer than I was when I was young, but I think I was certainly more calloused at flying games back in the day. Now, we're spoiled!
