SPECULATION Romance - who falls for who in VIII?

Finn may have been interested in Rey, but Rey doesn't seem to be interested in Finn. Now they are good friends.

 

The only reason I bring that up is because, on the Internet broadly, Finn and Rey is a combination I rarely hear talked about as a possibility. But, judging from TFA, it seems the most natural to me.

 

the sarcastic part was about defending Ben only because "OMG he's hawt!"....

....which is also the part that sickens me.

frankly, right after i saw TFA, i looked up Adam Driver--had no idea who he was, and my first thought was: this poor kid is going to get crucified by social media for not being "pretty". while i'm glad public opinion has been kinder to him than my original cynicism, i am now paradoxically flummoxed and appalled by anyone who should say let's rescue Kylo Ren because hubba hubba he's nice piece of meat. : o p

 

It's because of Rose. People think (including me) Finn and Rose will have a "romance".

 

I'm not trying to be funny but the Porg will be infatuated with Chewie. It will create drama.

The novel made mention of her attraction towards him. Kylo noticed it. It was obvious from the movie she was going to die with Finn on SKB if Chewie didn't show up, but instead of conversations about an actual healthy relationship there are conversations about wanting to see a dysfunctional one. Most of us have seen other people not getting along and unwilling to work together. There is no excitement in that. As a matter of fact. It's depressing. The smallest things become big problems. It's refreshing when you see people getting along and working together. Anything can be accomplished. I don't know anyone who doesn't want that for themselves.

I totally agree. If anything, I just want a redemption arc for the character because the guy has so much range and ability that it would be a shame if he was kept only on the Dark Side, or even ended up becoming fully Light.

Driver portrays broken characters beautifully, and I’d seriously suggest watching Scorcese’s Silence if you haven’t already, where he portrays a Catholic priest in Japan who finds it increasingly difficult to remain faithful to God.

Honestly, I think his portrayal of Ben/Kylo is why I want things to go a certain way, more than anything else.

I’m not 100% behind Rey Skywalker, but a scene between him and Luke where he confesses to hiding Rey has the potential to showcase his acting ability, for instance.

 

it really is hard to imagine any other actor pulling this off, frankly. cast wrong, he'd be a serious disaster.

i'm looking forward to seeing all the facets at his disposal.
we've had lots of snark, smugness, anger, and panic.
i'm ready for humility, righteousness, charm, and gentleness.

maybe not in TLJ, but i'm okay with working toward all those things as he evolves. : D

I can seriously see him pulling off doing something good (i.e. killing Snoke) for all the wrong reasons (i.e. I want to rule the galaxy; you used me and I want revenge; etc.), or vice versa.

Most of my questions revolve around which direction the character’s taken in in VIII and IX

 

The "cute boyfriend" line and the fact that he's a guy and she's a hot girl implies that he would be interested. But there was little to no dynamic between them in that way for me and she comfortably friend-zoned him at the end.

 

Personally, I think that being away from him for however long Rey’s on Ahch-To could give her a deeper appreciation for and a new perspective of Finn and his actions in TFA.

 

You're not the only one who thinks this.

Often because unless a story spells things out for people then people begin to interpret things unspoken how they want to see it. You will see people say there was nothing between Finn and Rey that would lead to romance, but turn around and advocate Rey and Kylo or some other romance in which the characters had absolutely no interaction which could open that door in TFA.

 

I...suspect there are other reasons as to why people seem to think there is a potential for romance between rey and ANY character except finn.

you know....i'm seeing a LOT of folks who are completely sure that their "ship" or whatever is coming true.......interesting times ahead.

 

If you carefully watch TFA you will not be surprised by this...

 

Does an awesome relationship necessarily mean ReyLo, in the romantic sense?

Other than the mirroring of other movies, there wasn’t much, if anything, of a hint of a romance between the two.
