    For the record, Padme blamed the Tuskens for the kidnapping, torture and death of Shmi Skywalker. According tot he movie's novelization, she thought the Tuskens got what they deserved. She was wrong, of course. Then again, Padme was not perfect.


    If Finn had been portrayed by a white actor, I have doubts that so many people would be expressing this opinion.

    Rubbish. The romance between him and Rey was simply non-existent. DR described them as being like brother and sister. JB said they didn't play it as a romance. No doubt a fringe of racists took this default position but the fact is that there wasn't romance between Rey and Finn. It was a friendship and affection between two people who hadn't experienced such things before.

    Rose and Finn share a kiss after he saves her life. And there is some tension between Kylo and Rey.

    I like the slow pace any possible romances are playing out in this trilogy.
    I greatly dislike how fast people fall in love in some movies, its unrealistic and boring.
    Finn and Rose may be the first (un)confirmed couple.

    Poe and Rey can become a possibility.

    But the most strange romantic dynamic so far is between the hero and the villain.
    Rey and Kylo Ren.

    The red thread of fate is coming into play here.

    Example,

    Romance in the first trilogy
    Leia Organa and Han Solo.
    The Princess and the scoundrel

    Romance in the prequel trilogy
    Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker
    The Queen and the slave

    Possible romance in the sequel triology
    Ben Solo/Kylo Ren and Rey
    The Prince and the scavenger

    I see a pattern here.

    ReyBen is PadAni in reverse.

    TPM: Queen Padme meets slave Anakin. Friendship.
    TFA: Prince Ren meets scavenger Rey. Adversaries.
    AOTC: Anakin and Padme fall in love. Forbidden love. Anakin conflicted.
    TLJ: Rey and Ren form a strong connection and are attracted to one another. Ren conflicted.
    ROTS: Anakin fully turns to the Dark Side, is possessive and his actions kill Padme.
    IX: Ben returns to the light, is selfless and does right by Rey.

    much as i think certain folks wanted to see Rey and Ben fall into some torrid liplock in that elevator, i have say i really appreciate the far more intimate/exploratory choice of having them touch fingers across the galaxy. it's the first we ever see that Ben can be gentle, and Rey is so sweet and trusting.

    Exactly, them touching fingers feels way more intimate and meaningful.
    It's also a much better build up towards a (possible) romance.
