Rose Tico in Ep 9

One of my favorite lines in the movie.

 

It’s part of my own philsophy now.

 

Now we need Dominic Monaghan say: "It is best to love first what you are fitted to love"

 

What? Because of this:

"We're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!”

One of the main messages of TLJ.

Remember also that Luke didn't fight Ben in the end but saved what he Loves (the spark of the rebellion, Leia and his friends).

Also it was the main message of ROTJ. He didn't fight the Emperor and saved what he loved (his father).

 

Amazingly, they did those things without having to utter a very cheesy tagline. It is just very lazy writing by Johnson. But I mean I guess, he did have to spell it out, because 75% of the audience was like WHY DID SHE JUST DO THAT?!?!?!?!

 

I mean, it's really only a tagline if it's used repeatedly.

This is, uh, dialogue. That's the thing about these talkies these days, no need for the Intertitle cards to show what characters are saying anymore.

 

I like the actress who plays Rose Tico but I don't like Rose Tico the character. I hope Finn feels the same way and their relationship stays in the friend zone. I hope Rose Tico scenes in TRoS are limited and hopefully edited out. I hope the actress' acting career prospers nonetheless.

 

Luke didn't save anyone in TLJ. The resistance is in a deadend. If miraculously, Rey wasn't on the other side suddenly levitating the whole mountain, they would have been trapped and killed.

 

I'm on the fence about this character. It really depends on how they utilize her in TROS.

 

Luke gained time for the resistance. One he realises that Rey helped to save the rest of the resistance he disappeared.

 

Please don't remind me of that scene. I found it so stupid and patronizing toward Finn.

 

I agree that was probably the worst line in Star Wars history. Even when I was still with my rose colored glasses about TLJ that line hit me all kinds of wrong.

 

If you can't take being reminded of scenes that exist in a Star Wars film, best stay away from forums about that movie.

 

Without Rey they will be dead but whatever, they had everything they need at the end.

 

In my opinion, Rose needs to get the JarJar treatment: "promoted" to a position that is so important it takes her far, far away from the main plots.

 

Sure.

Without Luke, it's likely that Kylo and the vanguard would've reached them before everyone boarded the Falcon.

They worked as a team.

 

I didn't mind that line as much as others. My problem with this was that Finn had an arc. He had grown to finally care about the rebellion, and was willing to sacrifice himself. Further, by him doing so, it ups the ante so to speak. We begin to feel like the heroes don't have plot armor.

Again, not a biggie for me. It felt a bit cringe to me, but that might just be me.

 

Well said, I do not quite understand the ire directed at Rose.

 

I can only speak for myself. So here is a character, who by her own admission, "works behind pipes all day" but suddenly she is leading a super secret mission? Why is Finn playing second fiddle to Rose all of a sudden? She even says he's this hero of the rebellion. It feels, to me at least, that Finn gets lowered to raise Rose.

But my major problem with the character revolves around Canto Bight. I could have gotten over the above, but then she starts dropping cheesy lines like saving the space horses made this all worth it. Except that it didn't cause as we see later, they are all captured again. Or it appears they were. The racing industry suffered nothing thanks to her efforts, except maybe a bit of annoyance.

Personally I don't care if the character is front and center or given the "jar jar" treatment. I do think the "hatred" or whatever is based on two things. One, SOME defenders of The Last Jedi put stuff out there about Rose to troll those who dislike the film. Calling her the greatest addition to Star Wars, whatever. They then get a reaction, the one they wanted, and the back and forth begins. The same goes for the other side. They put something out about Rose as the worst ever, get a reaction and boom. This, unfortunately, is the world we live in. I'm happy to see Kelly Marie Tran back, and I simply hope no more cheesy lines.
