Rose Tico in Ep 9

Really? You actually believe that people who like TLJ went out of their way to exaggerated their love for Rose so as to antagonize the haters? You actually, truthfully believe this?! And what, from the TLJ fan's perspective, would be the point of this? To add MORE controversy towards the film that they love? (I shall refrain from saying what I feel about this stance, for the good of us all, but it is nothing good, I can tell you that much! *calms down*).

 

The actress got a lot of flak that she didn't deserve but the writing for this character was indeed terrible.

Although Rose was not my favorite or anything and I liked TROS. There's no excuse for how Rose was basically nothing in the movie.

They could have solved it by either not creating a new character Jannah or just sending her with the group on the adventure.

 

The limited amount of Rose in this movie did not surprise me at all. It is exactly what I expected to happen

 

I still love Rose as a character and I think although she obviously didn’t have as much of a presence in TRoS, her role was still important and honoured what came before in TLJ IMHO. I could have happily watched another half an hour of the movie with extra scenes for Rose (and other characters), but you can’t give everyone hours, and I personally think the new characters completely justified their screen time and were distinct in enough ways from Rose that it made sense to me.

Characters have been introduced, featured heavily then disappeared or taken a back seat throughout the saga, I think it’s understandable and unavoidable people would point to Rose in TRoS in debates over TLJ, but personally I didn’t see it as any kind if ‘mea culpa’ or rowing back on TLJ, rather just another character who had their day in the sun and this film had other characters featured a little more because that’s what the story demanded.

 

Everyone is entitled to like or dislike anything artistic. Some people like Rose as a character. I don’t understand why.

But the Rose character deserves all the scorn she gets. They cast two Asian girls to be in the Resistance and be sisters. Fine. I understand the diversity agenda, and support the idea strongly, as long as the characters and their stories interesting. Rose doesn’t do much but whine the whole movie.

For E9 they knew they wanted the trio of heroes together (for the first time), along with Chewie, BB-8, d-0, briefly with Lando, and then on Kijiimi with Keri Russel and Babu frik. That’s a lot of people thrown together at one time on an adventure that’s only happening the first half of the movie. She wouldn’t have had that many lines or anything really to do, and people would have complained if that had happened.

Recently, it’s been revealed that she was supposed to share more scenes with Leia, so it’s not like they planned to have on 76 seconds of screen time.

I think 76 seconds is more than the character deserves (not the actress).

we’ve had so many paper thin “strong female characters” shoehorned into the ST already (Phasma, Rey, Resistance medic, Billy Lourdes, Holdo, Lando’s daughter, Keri Russell, high-ranking Resistance lady who announces Holdo is in charge, Paige, Blue Leader), so I’m pretty sure finding lots of screen time for an awful character with no story responsibilities isn’t in the same zip code as necessary

 

Can we not turn Rose's lack of a central role in TRoS into some racist or misogynist conspiracy?

Rian had a central role for her to play whereas JJ didn't; it's as simple as that and has absolutely nothing to do with the character's ethnicity or gender.

Am not going to criticise the actress because that's rude. But I could never understand the insertion of this character in TLJ. The cast list was bloated to start with. RJ should have stuck with the Finn & Poe show. I think when JJ came back the writing was on the wall. She's not his character. That said TRoS fell into the same trap. Zorri wasn't needed but she is a JJ character he was going to use her but yeah the cast list was once again far too big.

 

She has actually more screentime than Lando, Artoo and many others.

 

I'm ok with Rose in TROS. Her movie was TLJ. Same for Maz, her movie was TFA, not TLJ or TROS.

 

But that doesn't fix the issue of her screentime in what we saw. It's like Finn in TLJ. He had a LOT of deleted scenes, but most people won't see them. People will complain about what they saw, and the lack of screentime for Rose was one of them (which gets into a complaint with the film and editing, but that's a secondary issue at this moment).

I would have liked Rose to have gone along with the Big Three. Firstly, because three is an arbitrary number. In TCW we had Anakin, Ahsoka, Padme, and Obi-Wan. In the OT we had Luke, Han, Leia, and Lando by the end. Why not have Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose? It'd at least give Rey another girl to have as a friend, instead of just guys and robots.

 

My 2 creds (and I love Rose). The character of Rose had a central purpose in TLJ. She did not have a central purpose in TRoS, which is why she didn't get much screen time or plot. Sort of like... I dunno, R2 in all of the ST... C-3P0 in most of the PT & ST... Or Lando not appearin gin TFA & TLJ, or Lobot not showing up in RotJ, or Hux post TFA, or whatever. The character played a side role in one film and wasn't particularly needed in the next. Quite undramatic, if you ask me.

People trying to turn this into some kind of conspiracy are just looking to create controversies where none actually exist.

 

Couldn't stand the role of Rise Tico. An example of how not to do diversity. Poor writing.

TROS is just fine without her.

It's as if JJ Abrams read your mind. A well deserved Jar Jar promotion is exactly what she got. I, along with Daisy Ridley, am just extremely happy JJ finished the trilogy, and not RJ.

 

I have been every voice... JJ has ever heard.... inside his head. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

There was not some conspiracy to pander to racist and sexist doucheheads; Abrams and Terrio just found that they couldn't make the story they'd devised for Rose work the way they had wanted to based on the pre-existing footage they were trying to utilize.

 

Call it what you want, she got Jar Jarred. That character was simply not a marketable character. They near enough erased her from the promotional advertising, and that was intentional.

Either way what's done is done, they cleaned up RJ's mess. Alas Rose Tico was no Jyn Erso.
