Are you getting that from my post above (post #10) or did you see JW mention this elsewhere? My post was purely in reference to an interview he did years ago discussing why he stayed away from JW themes when composing Harry Potter scores, not Rogue One. That shows his preference at the time, but doesn't necessarily mean he is approaching RO the same way. Did you see him mention otherwise?

I love imdb. My favoriite site for all movie/TV/media details. While we don't know how Deplat will score the movie - saga chapter or not - it will open with the main SW theme(I'm betting it will end with the traditional SW "fade to credits" closing piece as well). So that could be be Williams only contribution .... who knows? ... I hope not.

And for me, the imperial March is not about Vader, or star destroyers, or TDS, or the Emporer. It is about a large scale appearance of Storm-Troopers. They are the only ones who march

Although I'd be down for the imperial March i feel like I'd love that classic villian theme from new hope more.

Beyond necessary call backs, i look forward to new music to hum and hope desplat gives me a reason to remember his name that isn't as juvenile as "desplat sounds funny"

I don't know his work well, but I was never a fan of his Star Trek score.

However, I find this whole thing confusing. Whatever the severity of the reshoots, they were previously scheduled and planned for. Something, somewhere along the line, doesn't add up.

Jupiter Ascending score elevated that movie above it's source material.

Jurassic World score was meh at best for an okay movie. I remember the recycling the best.

I think Disney changed the tone a little. Also, they may have wanted someone similar to Williams so that the film isn't drastically different....

The change to Giancchio is very good news. I enjoyed his Star Trek scores as they incorporated some of the older themes and added to it very smoothly. I was never very confidant in Desplat. I don't really see this as being a particularly bad sign of production difficulties.

Jupiter was a horrid film, however, I agree that it would have been far worse without the score.....

His star trek score reminded me of the big band music from the 30os and stuff sort of like in The Aviator .

Giacchino is clearly their Star Wars film backup guy should something happen with choice #1. Which people have guessing is the case for some time now in the case of John Williams.

I am a bit disappointed by this news. Something tells me that what Gareth originally was going for.....Disney wasn't having it. I am starting to believe now that there was an internal decision on Disney to have Lucasfilm make changes to this move based on "BvS being too dark for a lot of moviegoers, etc" and Disney didn't want that same stigma on this film......so maybe Desplat wasn't a fit after all. I was REALLY wanting a darker war movie in SW universe, something really different, which is what I thought these spin offs were going to be about. I still think we will get SOMEWHAT of a dark war movie. Also, am a HUGE fan of Desplat's body of work and I loved Godzilla 2014 and the style it was shot in. This news seems really sudden to me, for it to be schedule related...seems more of a spin then anything else. We shall see how this works out in 90 days.

I 100% agree with everything said here. I think Giacchino is a fine composer, but none of his work that I have heard has had that dark, moody feel to it. From what I have heard it has a lot of up-beat kind of flows, which to me indicates that maybe yeah, this film was changed in regards to tone. I really hope not but only time will tell I suppose.

Listen to the LOST soundtrack...it's pretty moving, dark, and moody/emotional..also this soundtrack needs some sort of upbeatedness with what the plot is :D

Zack Snyder probably has inflicted lasting widespread damage across the big budget film industry. Just like the cities in his films.
