People are focusing on the RT ratings as if it was the holy graal.

I just said, these ratings are the same all around the world not especially on RT and not especially in the USA.

Nah, it's definitely not the end-all/be-all of these ratings, for sure. I'm sure some people just legitimately disliked it.

Just as I'm sure there was some bandwagoning going on, as well.

I'm not sure that the ratings apparently being the same across the globe is necessarily indicative of much though, especially with how easy it is to access a VPN.

This is really much work for nothing really important. I won't personnally waste my time to do that but it is convenient to think some people would do it ...

Why just for The Last Jedi ? Good question !! And 'they' also have the tools to write the reviews in different language. It is really powerful.

BTW, I blame Colin Powell. Since he lied to the world for Iraq nobody trusts the information anymore except when it goes the good way.

What do you mean these ratings are the same all around? Of course RT are the same all over the world. Now as for other ratings they arent the same. Only RT is really low.

    Actually no.

2,9/5 here and believe me it is very low. Solo is 3,7. TFA is 3.7. Rogue One is 4.2.

Justice League is 3.5 for example and it is not a very good movie. Infinty Wars is 4.5 and Pixar's Coco is 4.6.

This. People saying the numbers are rigged are just cherry picking what stats they want to accept based on their own opinions and biases.

Is there a margin of error in an RT score? Sure. But when a movie comes in at 46% audience score, that's demonstrating beyond a reasonable doubt that a great number of people who saw it didn't like it.

They've actually taken steps to prevent rigging. They know how important their ratings are.

As I mentioned above, it is fair to assign some margin of error to their scores... but outright rigging? Nope. That's just the lament of people who don't like what the numbers say.

It's your own biases that lead to this....
Many very reasonable people have explained in great detail why the number is meaningless. Or are you just gonna roll with you opinions and biases?
They actually haven't... some person or persons posted hundreds of 5 star review last week. The "TLJ Hate" channels on YouTube were posting videos about it. I won't link to them because I don't want to drive traffic to their toxic channels.

The IMDb site controls against brigading. The numbers support that more people dislike TLJ vs. TFA, but TLJ is still very popular. IMDb does a good job with demographic data. The film is most divisive with older males and most popular with younger females. It stands to reason that reddit and YouTube (sites who are dominated by men) inflate the sense that there's a deep division.

And many very reasonable people have explained in great detail why they were wrong and how RT takes measures to prevent rigged scores.

Really, it's OK. You enjoyed a movie that a lot of people did but also quite a large number of people didn't. No big deal.

No one in this thread has explained in great detail why RT audience score are legitimate. RT didn't stop someone from creating hundreds of fake reviews last week. I'm pleased you want to participate in this discussion. Do you care to counter this with some real information? I'd be glad to hear some "great detail."

    Yeah, noticed that yesterday.

Again, I don't think there's any way to accurately measure the flaws of Rotten Tomatoes.

But to say that there aren't flaws is just to turn a blind eye to stuff like this. It's a horrible system, and to judge a film's merit off of it is to do a disservice to yourself.

Not to sound like a special snowflake, but so many of the films rated "meh" (especially older films) on RottenTomatoes are the ones that have really resonated with me. A good example of that is Solo, but even classic films like Hook apply (actually, a lot of 90s films have average or below average reviews). On the other hand, films universally "loved" by critics, at least by RT metrics, sometimes escape me with their appeal. Moral of the story: see films for yourself, not based on what critics are saying.
