I would like to have a Mandalorian warrior join our heroes in the Sequel trilogy. Boba Fett was an interesting character, but he was a more of a wannabe Mandalorian, in the new canon.

I was wondering that as well. That would be a really cool anthology.

I think this is right. I was contemplating what timeframe a movie about Fett would actually be set in. Post ROTJ makes the most sense although I do think we will see a fair amount of Fett in the Han Solo stand alone.

Post ROTJ is perfect because it is essentially a blank slate. Aftermath strongly hinted Fett extracted himself from the Pit of Carkoon and sold his armor to the Jawas. At this point, he pretty much becomes a blank canvas. He would probably be around 40ish so it is not like he would be too old to limit his story. I think an interesting movie could be made but it would have to have some significance to the overall galaxy. He has to put the armor back on for a significant purpose, not just to be a bounty hunter again. Perhaps the last book in the Aftermath series may provide some clues.

On a side note, I posted in the games thread but is worth mentioning here too, in the Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes game, Boba Fett has the special ability that gives him a chance to resurrect himself after being defeated. Symbolism or coincidence?

Read the Bounty Hunter Wars by K.W. Jeter every Boba Fett fan should and I can't wait till they confirm his film in SWC.

I would definitely go see a Boba Fett film, but is it really needed? I don't think so. This is something that could be told in a novel or if Disney really wanted to, a novel trilogy. We have to be careful about what we pick as standalone movies.

I agree, yet we have quite a few novels and graphic novels that tell his tales, however; fan films have spiked my interest. I'd like to see a good film with a decent budget tell his tale correctly; moreover, I think that Disney has to get the obvious stand alone films out of their system, for example an OB1, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Princess Leia ( way down the line ), Luke Skywalker... before they venture into more obscure territory like the Old Republic and Outer Rim stories, or even a Prequel era tale with a character not so well known. I'd say, way down the line, after the next trilogy.

I really think the Fett movie (The Mandalorian: A Star Wars Story), assuming it will be made, is going to take place right after ROTJ. The movie would start with Boba extracting himself from the Pit of Carkoon. After this struggle, he abandons his old life and for one reason or another finds his way to Mandalore. Not much is known about Mandalore during the OT but I think we will get some clues from Rebels through Sabine's story arc. We do know that during the OT Mandalore was under Imperial occupation. Thus, assuming Sabine lives, she could be leading a resistance on Mandalore (similar to what Cham did on Ryloth; explains her absence from RO and OT) and Boba ends up helping them to oust the Imperial occupation around the time of the Battle of Jakku. A motivation for Boba could be establishing Jengo as a true Mandalorian, a fact prior Mandalorian leadership denied (or disowned).

It would seem an incredible waste to devote the time to building Sabine as a character only to kill her off on Mandalore. Also, a movie about Boba Fett bounty hunting is truly uninspiring. I think the above idea could tie them together to tell a compelling story of liberating a planet from the Empire.

Of course, we will learn a lot at the completion of Rebels current season. I am also hoping for some clues in Aftermath: Empire's End, since it was the first Aftermath book that all but confirmed Boba made it of the Pit.

I am also starting to wonder if the Fett movie will be slated for December 2018. I think it is at least curious that Solo movie has not been moved from May 2018 to December 2018. Based on current release dates, there would be 19 months between Solo and Episode IX, which I doubt Disney would be interested in. Of course, Disney may still move Solo to December 2018 and that would leave 12 months between The Last Jedi and Solo and Episode IX. However, there may be a reason Disney wants Solo released in close proximity to The Last Jedi.

The schedule is for Lucasfilm to do one Star Wars movie per year. Since they have Episode IX plus another Indiana Jones movie in 2019, there's no way that they could feasibly fast-track a production without it affecting their other projects. So if they go on with the Boba Fett movie - and I think they're committed to it - then it won't arrive until 2020 at the earliest.

As for Han Solo, that movie will stay in 2018, but its release date is probably going to move to a different month. December's worked really well with the franchise thus far, and I don't see any scenario where it's feasible for them to drop a new Star Wars movie in the same month that the third Avengers movie comes out.

Han Solo is already scheduled for release on May 25, 2018, while Avengers 3 is slated for May 4, 2018, so Solo has already been dropped into the same month. I found it odd they haven't already moved Solo to December 2018. Thus, the speculation of releasing something else in December. Ultimately, I think Solo will get moved to December because, as you note, it would be a tight schedule to get Fett cranked out in 22 months.

i think the difference is that those are totally different markets. The fans might like both films but it wouldnt cannibalize the market. If there is a boba fett movie, it wil be a spring release while the main saga films will be in december

My comment was in response to the other poster stating that Disney would not drop a Star Wars movie in the same month as Avengers 3 (which they already have). I still think Han Solo will be moved to December 2018 unless Disney puts another Star Wars movie there. I cannot see them forgoing a December without a Star Wars movie, otherwise there is a 19-month gap between Han Solo and Episode IX.

I'm no longer worried if were getting a bad Star Wars film. They've got a good creative team now. Kennedy has a good track record.

Agreed GL chose his successor wisely, I hope Boba Fett causes a lot of trouble like we know he can.

No, it was scheduled for the 2018 spot until they pushed it back. Han Solo was pulled forward.

That's because Avatar 2 is currently still on schedule to be released on December 21, 2018.

With Avatar's constant production delays, the release date could change at any moment. But as of right now, the movie is still scheduled to be filmed summer 2017.

Disney isn't going to put Han Solo against Avatar, even though Star Wars currently has more buzz. Because it would still cut into their profits.

Right now though, Disney's December 2018 release is Mary Poppins Returns. Both it and Han Solo are being filmed right now. So it's possible if Avatar 2 gets delayed again, that Disney could swap the Mary Poppins and Han Solo spots.
