A new report suggests that none other than Darth Vader will be making an appearance in the Han Solo spin-off.

A few months ago, we reported a story from the site FandomFest that actor Spencer Wilding, who was one of two actors to portray Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, had to cancel a convention appearance at Kentucky's Fandom Fest due to filming for Han Solo. At the time, we had info that if this info was true, it was not for the role of Darth Vader. Wilding himself later confirmed that not only did he not film any Vader scenes for Han Solo, but he didn't film anything Star Wars-related at all! Now a new report from That Hashtag Show suggests the Dark Lord of the Sith might appear in the Han Solo movie after all (presumably played by another actor):

The site That Hashtag Show has a good track record of keeping tabs on casting calls, so this is definitely something that should not be dismissed. It sounds like this is going to be a cameo for Darth Vader akin to his instantly memorable appearances in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm are very aware that Vader is a unique character who should not be over used in the new movies. The Han Solo movie takes place 10 years before A New Hope and I am sure many fans will be fine if we don't see Vader in the film at all. If this rumor turns out to be accurate, we hope Vader's cameo will be a brief yet memorable one. What do you think?

I have said it before & will say it again I really hope this rumour is not true Vader is not needed in this film. As I don't see what he can bring to this film after all Han Solo does not believe in the force so he can't have any interaction with Vader & just having ng Vader turn up in this s film just because they can just feels like massive fan service.
I also wonder if this is something LFL have decided to do after L & M were removed
    The from the film.

Um... I don't know. I don't think Vader should appear in Han Solo and I've always thought it's extremely unlikely. I hope the rumour is false and, frankly, I don't believe it right now.

As long as he doesn't interact with Han, I don't see a problem.

Maybe Vader has hired some bounty hunters to catch Han, but Boba disintegrated the informant before they could say where Han was. Is that the kind of shoehorning we are becoming accustomed to?

Rumor: Darth Vader to also make appearances in your breakfast cereal, chewing gum, and crippling fears of inadequacy.

If this happens, it will confirm that Darth Vader will appear at any event, be it from galactic civil wars to supermarket promotion events and thus cheapen the character to a new level of ridiculousness.

Do not waste this iconic character on trying to rescue a film that has "awful" pre-written all over it.

On one hand, if Vader's role is a cameo or something very brief, fine. I do not see the issue. But really, the issue with Vader is really a confirmation of one of the biggest criticisms I have with LF: nostalgia overload. TFA aside, I love nostalgia. It is such a wonderful feeling. I mean how many of you are nostalgic for elements in your life? But why nostalgia works is because there is a novelty. I.E: most people appreciate it as it reminds them of something that they love.

But that novelty can quickly wear off as diminishing returns take in. For granted, I enjoyed the heck out of RO(I will defend that movie until my last breath :) ) and I am very much looking forward to Obi-wan. But really, the idea of essentially clinging onto the past just becomes super one note and in my view boring. Star Wars is a galaxy far, far away. A galaxy! It is a huge place.

Something, a certain point of view is doing as an anthology. Let us explore different aspects of this universe. For example, how cool would it be to get a SW movie on the Mandalorian Wars of Tav Vizula? Overall, while I am confident in TLJ and Rian Johnson, Han Solo and this decision very much represent that clinging to nostalgia.

Plus, overusing Vader like this is going to oversaturate him. I am trying not to sound too much like a negativie nancy, but really I just shrug at this news. I hope that this movie does well because even I who really does not like Han Solo and indifferent. Especially, given how Lord and Miller are gone.

He has already done these three before, so it's not like this would be some kind of new teritory for him.

If this rumour turns out to be true (and I hope it won't) I hope Vader's appearance is a source of comedy. Scenes with Vader can be funny ("Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director" is absolutely hilarious, like "Apology accepted, Captain Needa") and I hope this is how they use it.

It's great news, Han must be stealing something if imperial interest to have Vader involved.

If they pull of Vaders appearance in this film I will be most impressed. Iam just not sure they can pull it off without feeling like simple fan service but I stil hope that I will be surprised by this film.

I love Darth Vader as much as anyone here, but...I don't see the point of this. If they can pull it off, great. But they just used him in a movie! Give us time to miss him again.

To be honest, I don’t personally see the point of a Han Solo movie in general. I say put whoever they want in there. Vader . . . Ackbar . . . Jar Jar. I can’t imagine any new casting details making me any more or less interested at this point.

I just wonder how they are going to slip R2 and 3PO into it... If they don't appear in this, it would break tradition.

Ha, true. I wish they would consider putting away this film as easily as they put away directors. ;)

I was totally for the Rogue One cameos, and I think it ended up really being awesome.

    But this...
I've said this before, but a Han Solo film should focus on the grime of the galaxy. We should see smugglers, bounty hunters, trandoshans, and Hutts. An Imperial presence is important, but remember: this is presumably several years before ANH. The Empire is much younger than it is by the time Luke joins the Rebellion, so their presence in the outer rim (where this film should be heavily set, especially given the practical confirmation of Kessell) should be light. Like, maybe some prisons or spice mining camps run by the Empire, but I'd imagine they'd also be sourced heavily to the locals at the time, even.

But Vader in the outer rim at this time? Just happening to run into Solo? I mean, I guess anything's possible, but why? If we want a cameo, why not a more fitting one? We have a whole list of ESB bounty hunters Han could run into. We have Cad Bane and many TCW bounty hunters he could see. We could even have him running into an old Zabrak man named Maul in some seedy cantina, thereby setting up the more casual fans for a fan favorite possible return (as long as we don't see Maul perform any of his special abilities, of course). Heck, we even have Greedo.

Vader just isn't needed in this film, and it think from a meta perspective that it sends the wrong message- we're not confident in these films, so we're just gonna do what worked last time.
