    https://comicbook.com/starwars/2018...claims-george-lucas-to-shoot-obi-wan-spinoff/

    https://movieweb.com/obi-wan-kenobi-movie-rumor-george-lucas-directing-ireland-2019/

Here are a couple of links of this rumor news, which begin with an UK foreign secretary.
Sorry if someone mentioned it. I haven't seen it here or in SWNN main site. Probably are huge news if this finally be true.
Is just a (big) rumor, and probably words taken out of context (or not). But who knows....
Definetly I would love to see Lucas directing this spinoff (although I have serious doubts this will happen). Could be so interesting to see Lucas directing again and working with Kennedy as a producer who, in my opinion, has been taking good decisions for the saga.
With a proper casting (of course including Ewan) a proper script and proper cinematography and special effects (like RO and Solo), this could be so great.

PD I post this cause I need exciting official news from IX and the rest of projects ;) . Can't wait!

    Thoughts?

Unfortunately I personally think this is just the EX Foreign Secretary jumping time on a rumour & incorporating it into a speech to get attention.
I would also wager Mr Johnson the EX FOREIGN SECRETARY wouldn’t know who George Lucas was if he wasn’t personally introduced to him

Sorry to be a downer but I would rather trust Mike Zero with a Star Wars scope then Mr Johnson.

Have edited Would to Wouldn’t sorry about the mistake as it changes my whole statement about the viability of Mr Johnson statement.

Why would Disney let this leak and not make a grand announcement that Lucas is back as soon as he agreed?

I highly doubt this because George has adhered to his rule of doing movies only for himself after he has retired...Unless he is hurting for money (which he is not), he will not be directing this potential movie especially as Disney apparently has dramatically shied away from him.

I think it's probably a false and ignorant statement. I mean, how uninformed you have to be to think Lucas is still involved... Perhaps there were talks about some sort of Star Wars activity in Northern Ireland, but I doubt it's a Lucas-directed Obi-Wan movie. Besides the exact quote seems to say that "Lucas is proposing to make blah, blah..." and even if we take it seriously, it still doesn't have to mean directing. Sometimes people refer to Lucasfilm as "Lucas" so maybe that could be the source of confusion. But I think it's probably just ignorance.

That said, if Lucas returned to Star Wars in some capacity, it would be huge. Extremely unlikely, but I'd like it to happen.

Lucas has been seen on the Solo (it was his idea to do a Solo movie) and Mandalorian set.

    Hello there.gif

Well now, considering the aforementioned statement by the former mayor, it's hard to decide what to make of it, but I think it's likely a misstatement, unless (with a chuckle) we look back on this in a year and say "WOW, he wasn't kidding!", but like I said....likely a misstatement.

    However, let us for a moment consider this;

There is VERY LITTLE DOUBT in my mind that this movie is not on the table, and perhaps even being readied quietly for pre-production....regardless of what Disney/LFL has publicly announced. This movie could be an absolute winner..no, no...."WINNER", and there is no doubt in my mind that they know it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is (like the OT main cast) a profoundly beloved character in the SW universe. His portrayal by Alec Guiness in the OT was (in my opinion) almost flawlessly followed by Ewen's younger portrayal in the PT, and the Obi-Wan fans didn't even blink...Obi-Wan carries weight, and has enough clout with fans that this movie could potentially split the box-office at the seams for LFL.

To address the white elephant in the room; I don't personally think that there could be a better director than George for THIS film, AND just knowing he was directing it would potentially add even more weight to the project, knowing that the maker is returning for one last direction of the galaxy that he created.

Now yes, his return would potentially cause some fans to arm themselves with salvos of criticism to be unleashed after the film because they're the fans that abhorred the entirety of the PT and personally blame him, BUT I think the larger fanbase would scramble to see it based on what it is, and who directed it...I certainly would.

Is George returning to direct Obi-Wan?? I would say "No" as he'd probably pass.

Is it POSSIBLE?? Yes, anything is possible.

Did we just get a slip of the tongue from someone that got an angry call from LFL afterwards?? Probably not....but stranger things have happened! :)

ah Boris lol... who doesn't love Boris? :D

i've seen the speech (i'd never admit to hearing it live, so let's agree that i heard that he mentioned Star Wars and i watched it for that)
'hogwash' was my gut reaction. he needed help from the audience to find the words 'light saber'.

i'm 99% sure that GL wont be directing another Star Wars movie ever again.

however, as the wise @Trevor said..
not making a Kenobi movie would be the most illogical stupid thing ever. they will do it.. if they aren't already doing it.

so i'm thinking about why we've heard nothing all this time about a Kenobi movie. they make a Solo movie that whilst very good (imo) was a risk and obviously didn't hit the box office like they'd hoped.

why haven't they made it or at the least announced it already?

i can only think of 2 reasons.. something unique about who is making it, or the story they have in mind has some impact on other movies/shows that have not released yet.

i'll amend my earlier percentage to 90%... no 85%. i'm 85% sure that GL won't direct another SW movie.

    there's no denying that lol.

the slushy romantic side of me (yes i do have that side dagnamit! :p lol) would be quite teary to hear that George was involved in another Star Wars movie, and particularly in this case where it's about a beloved character he created.

the other side of me (that dark grumpy and pessimistic side) doesn't think that he would even remotely consider it, and doesn't think that Disney would ask him to consider it.

I just don't think it will happen. i have been known to be wrong though.... from time to time :D

I think if there is one thing we can all agree on with the Prequels is that Lucas got Obi-Wan right.

Yep, we can all agree that George did it right when it comes to Obi-Wan every time, from Alec to Ewen, and in my mind it was almost (if not completely) perfect.

We'll also all agree that there is NOBODY that knows Obi-Wan more than Lucas...likewise with Anakin/Vader, as George created these characters frfom scratch that were/are the keystones of both trilogies...they had to be, as everything hinged on them, if you consider it.

In my humble opinion, George would be my hands-down choice to bring Obi-Wan back to the screen, with not much more than a fraction of a second to make that decision, but as has been said, I too think that he'd never do it, which makes me sad.

Oddly enough, I think the fans who once were majorly critical of the PT would not be against this. I myself was an OT kid who roundly criticized the PT (although I always loved Sith) and I now look at the PT as being far better than I gave it credit for being. Would everyone feel like this? perhaps not, but if anyone could give us an Obi-Wan story that FEELS like Obi-Wan, I trust George could. Have Dave Filoni write the story and act as the 2nd unit director. Have him assist George with the first unit.

As a kid in 1977 Obi Wan and Vader were my favorites (I was a weird kid). Both are still my favorites. If only this were true.

I'd like to see George come back to direct the Obi-Wan movie and hope it might happen. You know what would be nice? If it all came together in just the right way, in the right sequencing with the right zeitgeist, and he really knocked it out of the park, the movie is a critical success and all of the fans hail it as the best movie of the franchise, it almost single-handedly catapults the franchise into its zenith and the internet is filled with memes of "Lucas saved Star Wars" that would be... it would be all right.

Disney make it happen. I just have a gut feeling this might be true after all.

Is George Lucas going to be present at next year's Celebration?

That might be a clue for all of us. :)

Easily, If he includes Jar-Jar Binks or finally bring in Darth Icky as a villain. :D My original comment was a joke from the movie Fanboys about seeing Episode 1 for the first time.
