According to a new report by Slashfilm, Rosario Dawson is rumored to be playing Ahsoka Tano in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

The actress has not been shy in her desire to play the character, dating back to as early as April of 2017 after seeing fan art made by BossLogic depicting Dawson as the popular Jedi. Well, it sounds like Dawson may have gotten her wish. Slashfilm states they have verified this information with two independent sources.

The Mandalorian wrapped filming a week ago and Dawson campaigned to play Ahsoka as recently as this past January in a tweet response to a fan.

At this point Dawson was likely being coy, considering the show was more than halfway done with filming season 2, unless Ahsoka is only making a brief cameo that was written late in the game. Either way, all fans need to know now is that Ahsoka Tano appears to be making her live-action debut in Star Wars in The Mandalorian season 2, which will also mark the first time the character will not be played by fan favorite Ashley Eckstein.

Slashfilm reached out to both Lucasfilm and Dawson's representation, and as expected, were met with no response. The publication has a very strong track record, and they wouldn't report something of this magnitude without high-level of certainty, so this comes as very exciting news to fans of Ahsoka Tano. The questions that remains is how will die-hard fans of the character and Ashley Eckstein receive the character in live-action played by somebody else?

ABC News' Clayton Sandell confirms Ahsoka Tano is coming to live action and that she will not be played by Ashley Eckstein, but was unable to confirm Rosario Dawson's casting to this point.

I wonder if someone got the okay to leak this... as in this was a planned leak. I dunno, maybe someone af Lucasfilm might've felt that we needed some good news.

Love this show but the casting continues to be a disaster.

    Ashley Eckstein is Ashoka.

I should be ecstatic one of my favorite clone war cartoon characters is coming to live action. Now I'm just disappointed that such a horrible actress has been cast to play her.

A lot of fans actually wanted Dawson playing Ahsoka for a long time now. It looks like Lucasfilm listened to them. That's great IMO.

Ashley Eckstein isn't a live action actress. Furthermore she doesn't look like Ahsoka. So it was reasonable to replace her life action counter part with some one else.

I think it's a good choice. I liked her in Daredevil and she's specifically said that she was interested in playing Ahsoka, not just the usual "I'd like to be in Star Wars" type comments; which to me shows she's at least familiar with the character. Still, Ashley's portrayal of Ahsoka will always be the "definitive" version to me, but I'm interested to see what Filoni and crew have planned for her.

There were also a lot of fans that wanted Ashley to play her live action.

Dawson isn't that great an actress. She was the worst part of Luke Cage and I don't want to touch the lawsuit against her.

Everything you just typed is wrong.

    1) Ashley Eckstein is great, but being the originator of the role of Ahsoka doesn't give her a monopoly on the character, although, yes, it would've been nice to see her be the one responsible for bringing the character to life in live-action

    2) Calling Rosario Dawson a horrible actress is absurd; you don't have to like her, but she's incredibly good at her job and is absolutely a good choice if you're going to give someone besides Ashley the chance to step into Ahsoka's head-tails and face markings.

I've never understood the adamant nature with fans of one singular person being allowed to play a role.
Especially in a world like Star Wars where it's changed so many times already, almost all for the better.
No one cried when Witwer took Maul from Serafinowicz.
We all loved Ewan as Obi-Wan even though that should have always been Alec's role.
    People loved Donald Glover's casting.
Alden got all kinds of blast but he was far from the issue with Solo, he actually did a great job.
Joonas is killing it as Chewie now. Carrying on the mantle.

And this doesn't even count all the live-action to voice-over changes.
Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, Corey Burton, Sam Witwer, Ian Abercrombie, Stephen Stanton, Phil Lamarr, Tom Kenny, Kevin Michael Richardson, Tom Kane, Julie Dolan, Nathan Kress, Genevieve O'Reilly and more...all playing beloved characters in other media first but for animated shows.

So why is it a hang up that a live-action version of animated first wouldn't use an actress known for her live-action roles? Ashley dabbled in live-action stuff but mostly has focused on voice work. It's a natural move.

Couldn't they just Maul her? Get Dawson to play the role, but Eckstein to voice? I mean, it'll be a bit awkward hearing a new voice, when Eckstein is the voice in TROS.

Well, first and foremost voice actors are no different then live action actors. I mean, Mark Hamill has a more prolific career as a voice over actor then a live action actor by far. So, for me it feels like you're discrediting voice actors, because they can't act when that's not true. Especially nowadays with mo-cap and what not.

They're not going to dub over an actress of Rosario Dawson's caliber.

    I'm hardly discrediting voice actors.
But that's not the point. Your obfuscating the point. The point is, actors of characters change. We always do this griping bantha poodoo then love it later with few exceptions. I really don't see where I did what you're claiming. I kind of said the opposite but okay.

The fact is this: the last live-action acting Ashley did where she wasn't playing herself, was in 2007 it seems unless I'm wildly missing something. So either she just doesn't want to do it or isn't as good at it compared to voice acting. They are different things after all. Not lesser, just different.

As for the first part, Why would you do this? Why would you hire ROSARIO DAWSON then dub over her? Why would she agree to that?
If you want to do that you hire a stunt woman who can do the body work like they did with Ray Park.
    Ray Park was a stuntman.
    Rosario Dawson is an actress.

    One probably needed dubbed.
    One doesn't.

Literally the people who post here (and a few places like it) , are the *only* subset of people in the world who consume Mando that would care or notice it wasn't the same voice as a split second in TROS. No one would care.

    Hei all,

Just checking; this is just a rumor, right? The internet is treating this as a casting anouncement, but nothing official has been said, right? Or have I missed something?

Would be great if this pans out :)

I haven't seen anything official, but also haven't seen any denials either. Also, not mentioned, if Asoka is appearing, so is Sabine, which i has speculated on for a long time. Asoka makes sense, but I'm not sure she knows where Yoda comes from. Not sure Canon says but I assume Yoda was raised in the Jedi Temple right? Just going out on a very tiny limb. They need both Asoka and Sabine. The mandalorian needs Sabine and her knowledge of the Dark Saber and Baby Yoda needs Asoka and any knowledge of the force or Yoda that she might have. Does Asoka know Luke can contact Yoda? Will we see a force ghost Yoda in this, its possible.

I love Ahsoka's character. I would love to see her again and her role in The Mandalorian. The actress Rosario Dawson seems to play Ahsoka's role, so I am absolutely satisfied. I also hope to learn more about The Child, at least his name.

Although there has been no official announcement on this from Lucasfulm, the news was first reported by the entertainment publication Slashfilm and later independently confirmed by reporters at another entertainment publication, Variety, which is one of four entertainment news agencies - the others being The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline Hollywood, and Entertainment Weekly - considered to be among the most respected and trusted of the "Hollywood Trades" and almost unimpeachable in both reputation and accuracy.
