Maybe KK just hasn't heard the right pitch. Someone has to come up with the right story. And yes, I know that lots of ideas have been floated in these forums. But a successful pitch in this case is one that is good enough for KK, LFL, and ultimately Disney to believe it's worth investing 120 million dollars + and risking the health of a $4 billion franchise on it. It's a tall order: no small accomplishment.

Personally I hope it would be a cheaper more intimate film for Obi-Wan but we know it won't work out that way

Yeah, that would probably be perceived as a risk. Maybe they'd be willing to risk it if they could bring on the right director or screenwriter - someone with an established rep at doing really good drama. My own fantasy would be Vince Gilligan as writer, with maybe Rian Johnson as director: they worked magic together on Breaking Bad, right?

any speculation on when the next standalone will be announced? Surely its got to be Kenobi, there are so many great potential stories, maybe Ahsoka or Mace Windu go in search of Obi Wan and end up on a mission together? With one of them getting caught up with Vader for one final duel whilst Obi Wan escapes back to tatooine?

I think it would be cool but mean if they just name drop the 3rd film during the previews of Episode 8. Doesn't have to be a trailer just a title card with the date before the movie starts.

I think Disney is dumping the Standalones. Will just focus now on the RJT (Rian Johnson Trilogy).

I wouldn't say dump but I think they are trying to make standalones more reasonable. To me I didnt like/mind R1, 1st standalone film. The way I saw it was that I didnt care about how they got the plan when when we already had like 30+ years of SW films and basically 8 episodes before the standalone. I kno some of you reading this are shocked and all but even though I did see R1(SW fan hello), I thought is was a reach. The Vader scene was too much. there was nobody who can stop him at that time, you have Rebels so figuring in Ahsoka,Ezra,Kanan would only have made a better fight scene if they fought Vader.

R1 was too much of addition to vader,Tarkin,Leia,C3PO/R2D2 to make that flair of SW relevant to the episodes. Now with the 2nd standalone, Han Solo, since the retakes and new director we havent seen any teaser and with the film being what 6 months away to me Disney has not attempt to promote the film but rather promote RJ and the new RJT. Doesnt it seem that KK{Kathleen Kennedy) and SW/Disney have taken a few steps down to reevaluate the whole standalone saga.

I think they can make it interesting if the went the route of Netflix and Marvel and have a show about Boba Fett and the underworld of SW without Jedi/SITH. But with Disney acquiring SW it now more to the general audience to make it PG. With the upcoming Disney streaming service, we wont get that more darker concept of SW. Even TCW series on CN had enough violence. I just dont see a reasonable OB1 film, how would you concept a story with him on a planet watching over the most important character in SW. you bring Vader to tattooine? We all felt that urge of caution when Maul arrived and him finding out why OB1 was there. even though we kno the outcome it was a good way the have the SW arc with the OT and Skywalker saga a vital threat to Luke and OB1 had to do was is must.

I can see them make standalone, but it has to be well creative. I can see them go the Yoda route or KOTOR route and do standalones with battles of the past. how it all started. but with Disney, its all about their consumers and that would be the kids. I feel that the next standalone will be a battle from the OR and with that it will continue into a trilogy.
