Get outta my head, @Embo and His Pet Anooba! :p

But yeah, those are excellent examples, I think.

And right now, we have no reason to think Headland's show will be patronizing or empty.

(though I will say, if a kid watches Endgame and sees something valuable in that scene, or if a lifelong female comics fan was moved by it... who am I to say it was "bad"?)

Captain Marvel was written exactly the same way a male ultra powerful hero would have been written and is in fact hilariously similar in personality to beloved 80s and 90s Arnie characters but everyone hates her. There's something more going on there. But hey.

The most common legitimate complaint (at least that I've seen) about Cap Marvel is Brie Larson being a poor casting choice, which i totally agree with. Cool character, but badly mis-cast IMO.

And btw folks, I'm not saying The Acolyte is gonna suck, just that I have my concerns about it. I really hope I'm proven wrong and the show turns out to be great.

    What about her is miscast?
    Genuinely curious.
I see this all the time and people mostly just point out that they don't like Brie Larson the person or they're just salty it wasn't Kathryn Winnick.
Which it's fair to not like her or to have wanted Winnick but that doesn't make her miscast. I thought she pulled it off well considering what was asked of her.

I do. Because Tony Stark is a complex and interesting character. Captain Marvel is neither.

“Interesting” is in the eye of the beholder. And I do not think it is right to call Tony Stark complex and Captain Marvel not.

Tony Stark wasn't interesting until his third movie.

Captain Marvel barely displays any emotions, has no weaknesses and can take out fleets of spaceships all by herself. Iron Man 1, on the other hand, had already established Tony Stark as someone with both strengths (his mind, riches and technical expertise) and flaws (his ego, reactor for a heart and, well, being an orginary human who has to rely on technology and wits to defeat more powerful enemies). And subsequent movies build upon that.
The only way you can make Carol Danvers interesting is either by making her a villain, or by giving her flaws. And we all know neither is going to happen.

Anyways... back to The Acolyte (the topic of this thread as Stormagedon wisely pointed out, lol)
Does anybody think the allusion to the “dark side” might refer to, NOT the Sith, but another cult seen or mentioned before like the Night Sisters? I am starting to suspect that with Leslye Headland calling this “female centered” might refer to the Nightsisters, which are obviously all female. Personally, I felt that several Clone Wars Episodes got too “sorcery” for my taste, but Asajj Ventress was a great character. The High Republic was 200+ years ago, so do you think Disney/Lucasfilm might want to cash in on her clan/family?
