Aesthetically, the only good fight in PT was Maul vs. Qui-Gon/Kenobi. It was fast and visceral, with just the right dose of "flair", like Maul's B-Twists and kicks! The action wasn't dulled by pointless saber twirling. Every move was economic and on target! I especially loved Qui-Gon's style, very reminiscent of Samurai fencing. The rest of the trilogy had overly choreographed, boring fights that looked more like practiced ballet dancers.

Thank goodness JJ had the sense to consider the Star Wars visual vocabulary from the OT and implement it in a way that made sense of the cast. I'll take European and Samurai sword fencing "short" fights over excessively long (Ep.III end duel anyone?) and predictably staged expositions in sword twisting!

Sams acting in a nut shell..."you think it to be this.... (wait for it).... boy?"

The worst delivery of a major actor of all time.

Sam is a fantastic actor, in certain roles. Being Mace Windu was not one of them.

And yes a virus. (or are you talking about my grammar...viruses not a word?)

The point is there were to many cooks in the kitchen and when you can tell GL you want a purple saber and he does it even though he doesn't want to.... well...

The leadup to palpatine vs windu was pretty good (are you threatning me master jedi? I am the senate!), and the actual fight itself did have some moments.

A heck of a lot more than rey vs kylo that's for damn sure that for me, was the most un-star wars like fight of them all.

Which came across more like a stage production than anything.

With all that white snow, I was expecting David Copperfield to pop up at any moment.

Nah, I'm sorry I couldn't handle that. Firs of all Ian McDiarmid's performance was soo forced (thank you Lucas) I couldn't stomach most of the lines he was vomiting. It's like 80% of the time Lucas deliberately put the wrong takes into the final cut. They just sound off! Secondly, I never entertained the idea of Palpatine or Yoda doing their battle, and the first time I saw that old fart b-twist in the air, slash Jedi like butter with one stroke and bounce off walls during the fight with Windu, I was ready to pass out. LoL

I'm sorry, as someone who was way too invested in The Clone Wars and the books, I expected my boy Kit Fisto to ANNIHILATE Palpatine!!!

Anakin VS. Obi-Wan was visually better than TPM .

Can you elaborate? I thought it was way too long, and obvious. Yes, Lucas, we get how the lava background is there to describe the inner conflict in Anakin, it was overstated in most of the shots. The little bantha poodoo exchange in the command room where both Kenobi and Anakin stand opposite each other, twirling their swords for no reason, jumping over the desk was very weak to me. Then the fight needlessly went from a duel into a Tarzan swinging affair. Kenobi's final attack after "I have the high ground" phrase was as bantha poodoo as Kenobi slicing Maul in half.

Yeah, so...I think that the dialogue could have been better. However, the fighting was some of the most intense fighting I've ever seen even though we knew he outcome already. The choreography was amazing like with TPM except for the Tarzan swinging as you had aid .

I felt like SLJ meant that the duels reflected the characters' lack of training.

He also meant that he wasn't the biggest fan of the duels and that he needs to improve in the future but get have plenty of time to improve .

Everything wrong with the Anakin VS Obi-Wan duel:

    • The obviously CGI Obi Wan back-flipping after getting kicked by Anakin. A kick doesn't propel someone that way.
    • In the brief catwalk sequence, you can clearly tell that they are just aiming to hit each others lightsaber (bad choreography).
    • Various unnecessary turns when sword-fighting. One of the most ridiculous moves in any sword fight. Sadly its present in many films.
    • Obi Wan unconvincing kick to Anakin when he's running at him on the table. Seriously, what the hell was Anakin doing? It looks like he was going to run right past him.
    • That whole part where they just stupidly twirl their lightsabers around at each other before going into a force push lock. Seriously... WTF?
    • The fighting on the floating platforms.
    • The high ground BS.
    • Others: Why did Obi-Wan not try to convince Anakin to return to the light? He just gave up way too easily.
There is probably a lot more flaws, but I don't feel like analyzing the duel meticulously just to write a detailed list. Admit it, the prequel duels are just flashy, and that's not what a fight should be.

I'm just going to leave this here:

The style! The grace! The emotion! The body tension! The score!
Every single frame is so dense!

I think you missed the "Tarzan" moment xD

and "anakin and obi wan vs dooku" in episode 2 was the worst lightsaber fight ever in a SW movie... nothing is going on, they fight just because they need a lightsaber duel in every SW movie, Obi Wan got his ass kicked in 1 second and Dooku doesn't kill him because he's a bad guy and he needs time to prepare a cool strike xD
And then the worst part, Anakin vs Dooku, with some of the worst shots I've ever seen... What are they doing with their lightsabers!? xD
