Seen anything in The Force Awakens that disappointed you?

If I had to complain about something, I suppose I'd say it seems a bit too much like a retelling of A New Hope with a bit of Empire thrown in...

 

Planets and ship designs.

Planets seen soo far look unoriginal in my opinion. Nothing that we had not seen before in other movies.
I hoped that we will get some new exotic looking planets in TFA.

New planets and environments are some of my favorite things in Star Wars.

Also I'am disappointed with ship designs. All of them look just like updated version of OT ships, mostly the same.
Only Kylo Ren ship looks somewhat different.
I expected completely new ship designs.

The film hasn't aired so the may be OT big 3 interaction in the movie but that is the one piece of nostalgia I will miss. Though I agree that Jakku should have more to it than just desert; a different color pallet, something that did not make it look and feel exactly like Tatooine.

 

It's a little gloomy looking overall. Hopefully the full movie will have brighter moments.

I'm hoping they are keeping some new ships secret. The Freighter ship might be a new design?

I'm confused about the Snow Planet and Maz Castle planet. Both having forest is weird and confusing to me.

 

Here's my best argument for NOT having completely new ship designs...



You can make a beautiful scene like this because we can so easily identify that silhouette. New ships just wouldn't have the same impact visually. I also don't think that you throw out the most iconic library of technology in movie history just for the sake of change. You can add to it each movie, just like the OT did, but don't start over.

That said, I do think that we'll see a lot of new ships, droids, and aliens. They've just been holding back.

 

We already had 3 movies with that design, animated series and a whole bunch of novels, comics and games. And we will have at least 2 spin-off movies also with that design.

I would rather have something new.

 

to answer the OP's question - no. I haven't seen the movie yet.

 

Luke's 2 second cameo, Luke not having any dialogue or doing anything or using his green lightsaber kicking ass in the film, Luke going into hiding because he "fails" or his loved ones get hurt/are in danger, not being able to see this:




...for the last time (Luke, Han, and Leia interact), the crossguard lightsaber (I hate it and will never like it, it's creatively bankrupt and stupid), Luke's blue lightsaber returning/retconning Empire Strikes Back, no A-wings & B-wings, ripping off A New Hope's plot, a planet that looks like Tatooine but isn't, a planet that looks like Hoth but isn't, a planet that looks like Yavin IV but isn't (no original planets to visit, just old ones with new names), no Yoda or old force ghost Anakin & Obi-Wan, a Death Star 3....to name a few.

Oh, and I'd also like to add not caring for the title and Darth Vader's helmet that was cremated in a huge inferno at the end of Return Of The Jedi somehow being salvaged and returning to the list of things I don't like with this movie so far. Way to ruin a beautiful moment.


Other than that I'm very excited.

There is really nothing that will dissuade me from seeing TFA (several times) and loving it as much as I do the previous six episodes, but if my arm is twisted I would say, so few Jedi is disappointing. I never expected a whole lot, but I did expect more than 1. We may yet get that. Also the perceived deliberate distancing for the PT is troubling, I think that is played up by PT detractors rather than TBTP. Of course, I don't expect TFA (or the ST) to focus on the PT at any point (it's about the future, not the past), but just don't act like the events depicted in the PT didn't exist at all.

 

I certainly hope not!

 

As of right now, the only thing that worries me is the feeling of this movie being a bit of a retread of A New Hope - right down to Starkiller Base, which is my one main concern at the moment in terms of the story.
