I know, There is no plot stuff what so ever. it's not a huge disappointment, It all looks so fantastic it's just a little too much of it IMO. I do know that the movie will probably be great, seeing Han hand Rey a blaster? How great is that?

We have seen a lot more but it just shows how much we don't know. It's my feeling that there are still some huge surprises in store for us. Overall. But especially with the KOR and Snoke. Not to mention Luke and Maz. And likely unanticipated twists with Han and Leia.

The thing that scared me ar first was BB-8 (in the first trailer)... Now I think it's the coolest thing I've seen since the hoverboard. :)

Agreed. It's brilliant. I just bought the Sphero BB-8. It's like the best Christmas gift ever. I'm giving it to my nieces but I want one for myself.

    Poe saying "We've got company!"

    Ugh.

And while I enjoy Rebels, its biggest detriment is how they throw in 'SW lines' for other characters to say...

I respect that as well, if it comes across right i have ZERO problem with that but like i said and with JJ at the helm, i have REAL doubts after what he did with Startrek i don't want it to come across like what we are seeing. I have No problem with new characters, i just don't want them to present the fans with something that already came before in a new look just so they can soft-reboot it from all indications.

I have been wondering the samething and i stated it in my own opinion, i have wondered if they are doing this to play it safe to see what the reaction is. However, it seems like they are have thrown everything fans have wanted while just recreating it in a new way and i think that does damage to the franchise and the fan base because if this does not come off well like PT, it is going to be a rough ride for Disney.

I also have a REAL hard time with this idea that Luke and the Jedi are legends, granted perhaps it is so but you can wipe out history of other worlds or ppl that knew of the Jedi and what they did. Its like trying to wipe out the history of the Nazis and what they did, i think it is a dangerous way to go about it. That is a good point, the Jedi played a large roll in the Republic as an institution, heck i am sure they have outposts as well on worlds, heck as you stated even Anakin new of the Jedi on outerrim world. I share your opinion on them doing what they did to EU.

I appreciate that, i know these type of forms can get heated due to ones opinion or disagreement. I know that my position is not a popular one, but i am straight forward type of person that wants to see what is best for something i love and my son loves. I think you are right they are playing it right, while they might have a formula, it didn't work well for PT and we both know that. I think TFA is a risk going forward, i have been concerned as well how much they are pushing the movie on all the spoilers as well. I understand that this is Disney's first movie with SW and want to make their money back, but i have some deep concerns about how they are going about it.

I agree with you on the throwbacks and nostalgia, i am huge fan of SW and i have been watching Rebels with my 11yr old and i love that show for being 30mins. It is going to backwards, but it has a Jedi and a Padwan in it, i think also this movie having Dark Side Force User vs. the last Jedi being a legend that has been not also liking the direction. But, i can understand the reasoning for alot of what they are doing, but i think it is a gamble as the fans can be make or break and i think it is a BIG RISK. So much is in our face when it comes to so many things they have shown and i think that is what really turns me off as i saw what JJ did to Startrek and i am HUGE startrek fan as much as i am a SW fan and i just dont want to be given the same story from a new way of telling an old story. You have FAR more faith in JJ than i do, because after Startrek i have ZERO faith his abilities. The way i look at him, is they use him to roll out something that has already been and redo it to make everyone old look new again.

Rogue one is our first step into a Star wars film that isn't centered around the force or Jedi vs Sith.

Still hoping for a Coruscant criminal underground movie focusing on gangsters, bounty hunters, criminal syndicates, and crime lords.

    But back on topic:
I hope the First Order isn't the only big faction/government in the galaxy, I want to see a New Republic that is either the same size as the First Order, or bigger.

If it turns out that the New Republic has crumbled under the might of the First Order, then it would seem that we are back to square one. AKA the state of the galaxy in Episode 4.

I definitely see this point but I think it assumes a much smaller galaxy. It assumes that everyone everywhere and thousands of worlds knows about Luke Skywalker. We know from Rebels the Empire used propaganda. After the civil war they could easily see a break down in communication, without imperial control of the media and state funding news might not be easily or reliably disseminated.

Very true indeed, it would indeed be easy to make it out as if they were all a legend of folk lore, granted the empire controlled the communications and information while i am sure other areas throughout the galaxy know of the Jedi or at least Force Users. Also i wonder about other Force users that knew they had special powers would seek out information, what would happen? Not as if the empire controlled everything everywhere.

People forget the original ending of ROTJ was on Endor and there were no other planets celebrating. The whole OT was very focused on a micro level and wasn't as grand as the PT.

I honestly don't think Luke & Leia weren't blabbing that their dad was Darth Vader because then they could be threatened by both sides. The rebellion could be suspect of them and remnants of the Empire could seek revenge.

That's why it makes sense that the OT events are 'legend' to these new characters.

I'm still very divided about the new movie: Sure, it looks nice, and it has the benefit of, well, not being the prequels.

But I also think it's sort of the "corporate-ordered sequel from hell", with little regard for the existing fanbase, and mainly aiming at de-facto rebooting the franchise as a preteen-focused marketing vessel, if the list of supplemental products (simplistic comic books, mobile games, YA novels) is any sort of indicator.

The complete exclusion of the EU hurts the new movie, as does the apparent absence of Lando and Wedge. - Not saying both those things have to be prominent features; porting over small details would have been nice, though. Like I think I wrote elsewhere, come on, don't call the guy "Poe Dameron", after two of your crew members, JJ! Call him Poe... Janson... Instead, and I will buy you a beer.

As to things that are already in the movie, I think Starkiller Base might work reasonably well as a big bad evil threat, if only because it follows an established form of aesthetics, but what I saw of the "First Order" felt unoriginal. Kylo Ren, an ersatz Darth Vader. Snooki, in turn, a monster too terrible for even galaxies far, far way.

The new heroes, in turn, look fairly compelling, if predictable. Rey better have a good backstory, or the movie is going to be a child flick for the most part. Flynn, in turn, hopefully one of the defining fictional characters of his generation.

My personal feeling is that the moments that will define the quality of the movie have not been shown yet - first, Luke's fate, and second, the forces of evil beyond Hugs and Plasma. I also realize that the script could not have turned out much differently than it did: With Han taking a prominent role in E7, most things concerning Luke and the Jedi are bound to happen off-screen: Is there a Jedi academy? Was there a Mara Jade? Is there a Ben Skywalker? All nothing that needs a definitive solution, and something that can be adapted according to fan reaction. - Han and Leia story won't make or break the setting. Anything concerning Luke and the Jedi likely will.

No, Han did wear different clothes in each movie. It was a style evolution that was symbolic of his movement from dashing smuggler with the low-cut shirt and tight pants (what, me not notice these things? :D), to rebel fighter (he wore a literal Confederate side-button shirt) to a more functional military costume, which honestly did look like a more boring version of the smuggle's outfit, IMHO so I could see why someone might not notice it.
There was a neat scifi costume show that toured the country a few years back & I got to see them up close, along with Luke's costumes, Boomer's Viper pilot costume from BSG and a Mal's browncoat costume from Firefly. The Smithsonian is sponsoring one that is Star Wars specific. It's in NYC at the moment and well worth going to if anyone's in the neighborhood.

It's all very carefully thought out and symbolic. So while I'm not thrilled with Rey running around in one outfit for the entire movie, either, I think it's that way for two reasons- first, it shows how quickly all the events take place- perhaps over only a couple of days. Second, it reinforces how very poor she is. She probably doesn't have other clothes. :(

Like others, the only thing I'm not really happy with in this movie is the battle of the superweapons (again). The Starkiller is so similar to the Death Stars, it's very disappointing. I just hope that their function is sufficiently different that it will be interesting. So I am holding out hope.

But what the heck, I guess it's like Babylon 5, just keep building them until they stop blowing up. Except we didn't have to see all the iterations of that over and over again.

Those are pretty heavy referrences. So your thinking it will be more of a take it over and shut it down type of thing?
They are simple star wars support France avatars. Everyone has a choice to use them or not use them. It's a positive response for a negative inhumane action. Thats it, thats all.:)

I'm disappointed that critic screening is being held back till the last minute. How much can Disney worry about spoilers when they are opening the movie 48-72 hours in some countries. They aren't aware of social media/internet. It makes me worried a bit and just adds to my annoyance at their and JJ's obsession with secrecy.
