I wonder if Disney will jump on a sequel trilogy to this one right away or wait another 10 years or so. The main actors are young enough to go another generation before firing up another trilogy. Or perhaps Ep. 9 will be last of overall saga started with Ep. 1. It could be that Disney might want to start a whole new trilogy completely off all new characters within the GFFA. But would Disney want to abandon these new heroes after 3 movies, even if the films remain hugely successful? It's too early to know for certain but it is interesting to think about what their plans may be after Ep. 9.

I think they'll focus on Anthology films for a while after IX, possibly even some forays into live-action television. If the franchise remains strong, we'll undoubtedly get another trilogy, though it remains to be seen if it would featured our ST heroes or a completely new set of characters.

Basically, so long as Disney holds the rights to Star Wars, the franchise will never die. We'll keep getting movies even after we beg them to stop, lol.

I want nothing more than a Sequel Trilogy to the Sequel Trilogy the SST(Episodes X-XII) out in theaters as early as May 2021. Dealing with the further adventures of Rey,Finn and Poe Dameron after Luke and co. are long gone. It could be set 5-10 years after Episode IX. Rey could be married to either Poe or Finn and have children and their children become the new heroes of the SST just like Rey,Finn and Poe are the new heroes of the ST. The enemy should be an extragalactic invasion threat either the Yuuzhan Vong or something similar to the Vong or any alien threat from the Unknown Regions could be the enemy. And perhaps the Jedi Order is rebuilt at it's former glory thanks to Luke Skywalker and perhaps Luke is dead and gone but could appear as a blue ghost like Obi-Wan in TESB and ROTJ. Maybe the Jedi and the Sith have made peace and the galaxy is at peace and they team up to face this new threat together. That could be a trilogy worth seeing and a wonderful legacy to the past three trilogies.

If the ST does as well as people anticipate there's no way they stop at IX.

I'd imagine they'll let the saga proper rest a bit after the trilogy ends. I've speculated before that the rumored Kenobi trilogy may be a way to break up the time between ST's. Episodes 7-9, followed by Kenobi 1-3, back to Rey and friends for 10-13 after they've had a chance to age a bit and let audiences rest from the main story. All the while, anthologies could keep things going in the ST era while the main trilogy reverts back to post Episode 3 timeframe and follows Kenobi. This allows the ST era to stay fresh in audiences mind, while still providing a break from the main story.

I wish that was true...Sadly,the way things work (as we all know) money talks. Anthologies after some time will be boring because of the lack of importance in the main story. This,in my opinion, will eventually lead to Star Wars:Episode X-The Emperor Lives where I resurface thanks to the convenient Spaarta cloning. Well, the title will make millions itself*at this point he realizes that the EU is under Legends* Damn, not cool!

I definitely think we'll eventually get episodes X-XII. Ironically, Lucas had originally planned to make up to 12 Star Wars films.

I like that you mention that. But I think, because of the long wait, the two Sequel Trilogies as originally envisioned have merged into one. The first sequel Trilogy was about the "moral and philosophical questions" that arise from trying to properly rebuild the Republic, and trying to avoid its midtakes, as well as the main theme, which is "passing on what you've learned". I don't think we have any information on "2ST", the Second Sequel Trilogy. Just that, at the time of the "Four Trilogies" outline, it was the last Trilogy, and... Probably the first Trilogy without Luke, and focusing on a new generstion entirely. I think the Trilogies have merged in the sense that both generations will festure, with neither generation being in a cameo role, but the passing of the torch remains.

It could still be split similar to that but in a different manner.

If the ST covers the passing of the torch and only lightly touches on the "cost of peace" (as most of that has occurred in the past), a SST could be used to explore the themes of what happens "after the victory" that they never got to do when the original window of the ST passed.

People, from what I gather, very much wanted to see the heroes in their prime. In the OT we see them on the rise. In the ST we will see them in decline as they pass the torch. We have missed our window to see what happens at the top, where those struggles become gray and the stakes get very high. Its possible we will get what many hoped for years out of a OT3 sequel story, but instead with the ST heroes, perhaps 10 years or so after the ST. Maybe a rebuilding of the Jedi order story, or that invasion by an outside force story that so many clamor for. Just without Luke, Han and Leia.

If that happened, the ST would in some ways be the reboot it was claimed not to be. A chance to start over with new heroes and continue the franchise as originally planned with multiple trilogies following these heroes through different phases of their lives. This, of courses, breaks significantly with the Lucas plan, but that ship sailed when Arndt got the boot. And whether its a good idea or not is up in the air. But I could see this as the master plan. A way to restart the star wars master plan without a firm reboot.

I can really see that happening; I doubt that we'll stop getting new Star Wars films so long as they continue to make money, so investing us in the new generation of heroes is the perfect way to reboot the story. The only problem is we're still left hanging with the story of our OT heroes. We have heroes in their prime in the PT and a bunch of canon stories that follow the remaining characters through to ANH, with more coming out all the time. Then we have the OT, in which our old heroes (Obi Wan, Yoda; arguably Vader from a certain point of view) face their decline and pass the torch to our new heroes. Then we skip to the ST, in which those heroes are now declining and passing the torch to the next generation. We completely missed the OT heroes' prime; we saw them start a new job, missed the interim, and will now be seeing their retirement.

We had all those interim years with the old EU, but with the canon wipe they're now almost completely empty. I'm sure we'll get tidbits here and there in the new canon, but I'd actually love to see them take the opportunity and do a few animated Anthology films/tv series about the 30+ year span between RotJ and TFA. You're right, we missed the chance to see the sequels we really wanted to, so why not go back now and tell the canon story of their prime as best they can? The live action movies can continue forward with the new generation, but us OT fans could still get our kicks from seeing the actual adventures of Luke and the gang before they had to move on. And I'm not talking about kids movies/shows either, I mean animated features in the same vein as DC animated but with Disney money fueling them.

Alas, I'm likely a fool with a dream. Then again, an ST was once a fool's dream....

Seems like a pessimistic way to look at it, to me. I think we can still see them, in the films, in their prime. How old is Luke? 48, by the in-film chronology. For a Jedi, that's like, Qui-Gon's age.. We can still get a satisfactory ammount of "prime-time" Han, Luke, and Leia.

Technically, Luke and Leia would be at least 53-54 by the time of the ST; they were 19 or 20 in ANH, then add 4 years for the OT and another 30+ years til TFA. Han would be about 8 years older; if we go off of George's idea of having an 8-year old Han in ROTS, that puts him as 8 years older than Luke and Leia. So they're getting up there...now, Luke is obviously the most fit or the trio to have an active role, but it's more about his mentality than his actual age; we're assuming that he's more of a Yoda than a young Obi Wan (or a young Luke for that matter).

It's the actors that are the problem, unfortunately. Harrison Ford, in particular, won't be able to do many more of these (if he survives TFA); Carrie Fisher could carry on as Leia for a while if she's only doing political/military-command scenes; Mark Hamill will probably play Luke even after they kill him off, but again it's the mentality and not the age that we're talking.

And, unfortunately, they've pretty much confirmed that the ST will not be their story; they're the Legacy characters, handing off the torch to the new generation.

Very true, 30 after Endor, not Yavin.

Harrison I do think is done, at some point this Trilogy.

But what I mean is that I think they can pass the torch while being *at the end* of their prime. "Prime" as far as age is one thing, but as far as their characters and who they are and what their roles are, I think they can be in their prime.

Leia at the peak of her political power and leadership ability, Han at the greatest part of his character's arc (self-sacrifice), and Luke at his most powerful, or wisest point, of his Jedi life, would be all be, I think, an acceptable form of "prime" to the fans :)

I think the perfect story for a SST(Episodes X-XII) would be either the Yuuzhan Vong invasion or the Chiss-Killik Border War set in the Unknown Regions from the Swarm War trilogy by Troy Denning. Or how about an invasion from the alien warlord Nuso Esva who with his powerful armada of ships invades both the UR and the known galaxy and comes into conflict with another humanoid blue-skinned warlord named Grand Admiral Thrawn and Thrawn forms allies with the Newly rebuilt Republic to defeat Nuso Esva throughout the SST. Or how an idea based on the Fate of the Jedi storyline where a Lost Tribe of the Sith builds a powerful new armada of ships to defeat the Republic and the Jedi and the Sith join forces to face them. It would be Jedi vs.Sith vs.Sith.

The main characters in the SST would of course be Rey,Finn and Poe Dameron only a bit older and wiser. And I still hope Episodes X-XII the SST comes out in 2021,2023 and 2025 followed by a reboot trilogy in 2027(the 50th anniversary of SW) set 10-15 years after ROTJ with an older Luke Skywalker having adventures as a Jedi based on the outline that Dale Pollock liked and wanted to see as movies.

I kinda want this to be the end of the main series, but has already been mentioned... yeah. Not gonna happen.

But yeah, I'd like to have a break from the main episodes for a bit after IX, ten or so years sounds about right. It gives the community enough time to digest what goes down here in the ST, and for the EU to explore its time period in a comprehensive fashion before we get tired enough of it to move on in the tale.

My biggest problem with another trilogy though... what do we call it?!

I mean, now it works out really nicely, Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy. What would come next? The Sequel Sequel Trilogy is clunky (and obviously can't be kept up. What are we going to be watching the SSSST in 2061?)

If I'd have to guess, I'd lay my money on something like "The Fourth Trilogy" but that lacks the elegance of the system we have now.
Oh well, another problem for another day.

I wrote an idea for the SST on TheForce.Net's forums and I mentioned it earlier here that the SST should feature the GFFA being invaded by the alien warlord Nuso Esva from the Tim Zahn novel Choices of One who is stalking the Unknown Regions and preparing to invade the known galaxy but also Nuso Esva could also form allies with the Yuuzhan Vong to invade the galaxy and an older Poe Dameron,Rey and Finn travel to the Unknown Regions to face Nuso Esva and the Vong but acquire help from a species in the UR called the Chiss and a Chiss warlord named Grand Admiral Thrawn to stop Esva and the Vong once and for all in a climatic space battle with the Jedi and Sith forrming allies along with the New Republic and First Order remnants in Episode XII. I think this would be a perfect plot idea for a SST. But I hope Disney/Lucasfilm will do an SST based on a similar plot to the one I suggested.

I also suggested that if there is a Fifth trilogy of Episodes XIII-XV released around 2045. It could be based on both Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi where there is a Corellian Seperatist Confederation to oppose the New Republic with their fleet of warships and starfighters and also a Lost Tribe of the Sith with their powerful armada of ships to challenge the Sith and the Jedi with their armada of ships.

I think it would be fun if Episode IX ended with not only the New Republic and the Jedi Order reestablished but to end with some Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters to go on an Outbound Flight mission to the explore the Unknown Regions and beyond to neighbouring galaxies searching for new life(perhaps new force semsetive being and maybe possible threats to the GFFA. Threats that could be potential enemies in the SST(Episodes X-XII).

Since the EU has been rebooted. There could be an Outbound Flight in the ST era with members of Luke's Jedi Order exploring the UR and distant galaxies. But this time unlike Outbound Flight in the PT era. This Outbound Flight could be sucsessful and explore the UR and reach another galaxy and return to the GFFA to warn them of the future threats paving the way for the SST(Episodes X-XII). This could be a new reboot novel for Tim Zahn to write it as a bridge novel between Episodes IX and X or it could male the perfect ending for Episode IX teasing Episodes X-XII to come in the early or mid 2020s.
