I believe Gareth Edwards said RO ends about 10 minutes before ANH begins. I think that is an exaggeration as Vader needs to return to his ship. Probably more like hours rather than days have elapsed when Vader catches up to the Tantive IV.

I would agree. Plus if the Tantive went into hyperspace before Vader made it to his SD, they would need to figure out where it was headed.

Only 10 minutes between Rogue One and A New Hope? That doesn't work for me. Needs to be longer.

That's a question the film most definitely didn't answer. Vader's "calculate their trajectory" in ESB seemed like the last straw with a rather uncertain outcome.

Perhaps some officer (like Piett) mentioned "Tatooine" and Vader replied "that's it, that's were they are heading" although I wouldn't have the faintest idea how Vader could have possibly arrived at such a conclusion.

Its a bit of an oversight, nothing as big as the ones in the PT and nothing that ruins the movie but ....... an oversight

I think they could have easily had the Rebels trying to send out the plans before Vader cut them all down, we see the name Tantive IV on the screen, then we see someone download and hand the plans to Leia.

I think that also makes a lot more sense then sending Leia into a battle on a ship hidden in another ship for........what apparent reason?

Pablo is great, and I would rather have this kind of stuff to worry about than why explosions in distant solar systems could be see in the sky in realtime.

    Star Wars Radio Drama (1981)

CONFIRMED: The Death Star plans WERE (originally) beamed to the ship. Seems like the Rogue One writers obviously never listened to this.

They were beamed to the ship and put on a datadisk. There isn't any inconsistency.

I've reconciled any discrepancies in my head-canon. My initial take (I've only seen RO once) was that:

    (1) The schematics were broadcast from the Imperial transmitter in waveform.
    (2) They were likely intercepted by whatever receivers were tuned to that carrier frequency (which may include every Rebel/Imperial ship in orbit and within range of the parabolic antenna).
    (3) Rebels then backed up the schematics in hardcopy form with the aim of smuggling the data out to Rebel sympathizers - hopefully unbeknownst to the Empire.

It works for me anyway. These Rebels were fortunate indeed - many of us have learned the hard way that data is unsafe unless backed up at least 3 times, preferably in different mediums/locations!!

Huh. I'm impressed that they had so much attention to detail that they kept the idea of the Rebels getting the plans from an Imperial shipyard/construction facility. Kudos to Gareth Edwards and the writers.

The transmissions were beamed to the Profundity, placed onto a data disk, then frantically passed from rebel officer to rebel officer until they found their way aboard the Tantive IV. According to the novelization, Vader was told about the disk and was following it from the Profundity to the Tantive IV. This is absolutely an inconsistency.

I haven't read the novelization. Regardless, a minor nuance to me. I enjoyed the film and it fits within tne SW universe. I take film as the dominate canon over a novelization, but not saying it negates any inconsistency by any means.

Does Vader know the Profundity actually received the transmission, or was the transmission relayed directly into the Tantive?

According to the novelization, Vader does know that the Profundity received the transmissions and copied them onto a data disk. He then pursues the disk, which leads him to the Tantive IV.

If the Tantive IV had also received transmissions, there'd be no need for the rebel soldiers to desperately get that disk aboard the ship.
