    ???

They didn't get the plans from an Imperial shipyard in RO but from a security archive complex on the planet Scarif.

Many thanks for sharing this video @SKB, I wasn't aware of this interesting detail and how much thought George Lucas invested into the ANH back story.

    TAGGI
Until this battle station is fully operational we are vulnerable. The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped. They're more dangerous than you realize.

    MOTTI
    Dangerous to your starfleet,
Commander, not to this battle station!

Now I see the full context of Motti's statement, wonderful! :)

I love when my tongue and cheek nerd spasms reach the higher ups. Speak truth to power they would tell me in AV club.
(Pablo, PM me and I will disclose details on where to wire transfer my 5 mil for not revealing that thing people haven't noticed yet concerning Saw Gerreras opioid addiction. This isn't blackmail it's called "I rebelling").

...Maybe he was just misspeaking because he was tired or frustrated?

"Several transmissions were beamed to the ship that this ship was hiding inside of somehow and then passed by hand through a doorway" is a little lengthy, and he'd been pursuing them for several hours at least.

There is no denying that I have the debatable reputation of over-rationalizing issues when it comes to the OT, but I find it interesting how much many fans are willing to retroactively alter the original ANH context to make it somehow fit with what the RO makers came up with (though it should have been foremost their job to stay clear of any continuity hickups).

Suffice to say that the last scene of RO offers a continuity compatible solution, i.e. we see what's undoubtedly Princess Leia's ship (apparently in the Scarif system) but with remarkably no other vessels (other ships, pursuing TIE fighters etc.) whatsoever visible in the background in these last frames...;)

It was in the original script for the film. After escaping the Death Star, Leia was going to explain to Han that the plans had been stolen from an Imperial shipyard.

Scarif was a research and construction facility for the Empire. That's why they had all of those blueprints for various projects there.

Could you please indicate your source?

The entire cockpit scene didn't exist yet in the authentic script from January 1, 1976: http://starwarz.com/starkiller/star...ller-as-taken-from-the-journal-of-the-whills/ (that's the version where Kenobi was still alive and joined the Death Star escape)

And I just looked up my copy of the authentic screenplay from April 19, 1976 (the basis for Alan Dean Foster ghost-writing the ANH novelization) which does have the scene (A125), but nowhere does Leia mention "Imperial shipyards".

How the Death Star plans were originally stolen, according to the old canon now known as Legends:
