Loved this game. This was back in the days when we actually had to go to Blockbuster and rent not just the game, but the N64 as well. Man those days were so awesome/sucked so much at the same time.

It had action on Hoth and in Space that blew away the stuff I knew from the Super Star Wars series, and an interesting story/character to boot, and was a great companion to the book. It got me to go and get all the toys I could for Shadows of the Empire, including that awesome swoop bike.

Definitely a success considering it was all part of the same media project, and certainly got us involved in all the other materials.

I can't bare to look at it now though. Age is usually not too kind to the games we loved. Would be awesome to get a modern remake, but that's not bound to happen. Plus I don't have a Wii (which I guess it what it would be released on) and I'm not all big on third-person gaming these days.

Pretty sure canon has teddy bears with spears getting solo XP on an AT-ST. Damn things are tipsier than Jabba's minions.

This is one of my favorite games. I remember when I found it in Blockbuster I'd rent it all the time. The day I got the game, my sister and I would hither to the game room. I remember eating a bag of Doritos, attempting to jump over the steel beams on the back of a train in Ord Mantell.

My favorite levels were the Mos Eisley and Imperial Frighter.

My favorite thing about this game was the awsome debug code that let you control/play as: Wampa, ATSTs, TIEs, Xwings, the Falcon in the final battle. Along with infinite lives/ammo and the like. One of the best cheat codes of all time.

...Also got to see what the Dianaga's body looks like under water.

I think this is something that has been worked on off and on for almost a decade. LFL and Disney know how popular this franchis is with starwars and pinoy tv fans and it is going to get done. A childhood friend worked for Bioware Austin not too long ago so from the conversations I have had with him I am very hopeful that this is in development and that it's going to be great.

My cousin had this game and I remember how hard it was lol. Passing the Echo Base level seemed like a big accomplishment for me at the time. I did get to play the Skyhook battle level which was my favorite.

So many great memories in this game- also a ton of variety!

    Just a recap:

Battle of Hoth- So great that it inspired the Rogue Squadron games. Not my personal favorite level, but I totally get the appeal.

Escape from Echo Base- I loved the detail in this one. Random Wampas in rooms that you don't even need to go into (much less release them), probe droids, big chasms... it didn't always feel like the base we saw in the films, but it was a fun level nonetheless.

Asteroid Chase- A fun diversion- also note that we're three levels in now and each level has had a totally different form of gameplay. Plus, the Asteroid Field score is one of my favorites!

Ord Mantell Junkyard- Jumping between trains was an inspired idea, adding a sort of platforming to this game that would be even more expanded on later. Plus, I know he was easy, but IG-88 was a pretty cool boss. Freaked me out a lot as a kid!

Gall Spaceport- Good lord this mission is epic. It seems like it takes up about half the total playtime of the game, but it's time well spent. The canyons were so immersive (at least back then), an AT-ST as a miniboss, a ride on an Imperial shuttle thing, and a final fight with the boss honcho himself, Boba Fett! Come on, this is cool stuff.

Mos Eisley and Beggars Canyon- Yet another new type of gameplay, the swoop bike section gets a lot of hate for how difficult it is. Personally, I used to love it. The controls are tough to get used to, but oh so satisfying once you figure it out.

Imperial Fighter Suprosa- From reading the books, I have more appreciation for this scene now and the implications it had for the lore (we miss out on the "many bothans" section in this game). But I find this level to be pretty generic, unfortunately

Sewers of the Imperial City- This level has some interesting parts, but in general it's a total snooze fest

Xizor's Palace- Again, some interesting parts, but I was never a big fan of this one

Skyhook battle- Now we're talking! Mercs v Imperials v Rebels in an all out space free for all! Definitely the coolest mission in the game if you're looking for my opinion. Also, flying into the skyhook might seem simplistic now, but it absolutely blew my mind the first time I made a run- felt just like the Death Star attack in Return of the Jedi!

This was one of my favorite levels. I don't know why, but shooting asteroids is way too fun.

EASY? Dude, I spent an eternity on this level. It took me wayyyy too long to beat this, haha.

Probably the most memorable for me, I loved the swoop race too.

Which of these was the Dianoga level? The Sewers I'm guessing. I had trouble with that bastard too.

All of this makes me want to go back and play this again.
A couple years ago I replayed Rogue Squadron, and it surprised me how difficult yet satisfying it was some 15 years later.

Oh, I'm the same way, that boss fight was tense for me.

But apparently if you're smart and have a lot of seekers/disruptors saved up, you can just focus fire on Iggy at the start of the fight and defeat him in about 3 seconds. I've never done it that way, though.

Yup, it was the sewers. I did like the Dianoga stuff- it's just the rest that was a slog.

For sure! I popped in Rogue Leader last April, and I kinda expected one of those situations where I find that a game I played in my childhood was not as difficult as I imagined, but in fact I found it to be the total opposite- it was way harder!

Tons of fun, though. Better than any Star Wars games we've gotten recently, by a mile.

    Lucky!

I've found some pretty good playthroughs of the N64 games on YouTube- next best thing to actually playing it. I'm not usually into those types of playthroughs, but the nostalgia alone is worth it.

I love Shadows of the Empire!!! It was my first look into the expanded universe and I like how it connects TESB and ROTJ.

I bought the N64 because of this game, I still have it and the Audio book (cassettes).

Shadows of the Empire was a lot of fun. Not one of my favorites, but a solid third-person shooter with a cool story. The Gall Spaceport level was awesome.

You can get it on Steam and GOG if you're interested.
