Whenever I watch A New Hope, the only thing that bugs me is the inconsistent color of Luke's lightsaber. The first time it turns on it's Aqua Blue, second time it's all white. Should any future editions of the movie make Luke's lightsaber a consistent color?

Yeah, I've always disliked that. At least it (sort of) explained the action figure's yellow lightsaber.

Ironic it seems to stay consistant through the George's beloved prequels.. I mean, this is photoshop 101: It's a lightsaber, not a rainbow.

How true. They really "Fixed" the Han vs Greedo exchange. and Jabba's scene, which I wouldn't mind being taken out again. Back to the Lightsaber, They should have fixed Luke's lightsaber especially. A New Hope also had problems with Obi-Wan's Lightsaber when he was fighting Vader.

Jabba's scene looks horrible. His size, color, voice, everything is completely off.

Of course. There is a website that compares a ton of the scenes for the original release, the SE, the DVD release, and finally the blu-ray release.
    http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-one.html

The lightsaber issues features prominently, including not just Luke's but also Vader's red lightsaber which also has some issues. It shows how some things were fixed for the blu-ray while others were not, or were even made worse (like in some instances, Vader's blade develops a straight-up pink core for the blu-ray). Vader's issue is more in RotJ though I believe.

Indeed. If they reworked it with better tech today, I might be able to dig the scene. All in all though, I think the character is what was more off than anything, and thus it still shouldn't be included even if the other issues are remedied.

That's probably the only thing that bugs me every time. Funny that I didn't noticed it before, watching it as a kid.
Maybe I was just used to old movies and nowadays I am spoiled with the remastering process and digitalizing everything.
My original VHS of the movies I brought before the DVD revolution looked and look like hell in nowadays standards.

But as I said in different thread, the movie I have now on DVD is remastered, with CGI Jabba and scenes never before seen or made,
and Lucasfilm can't make a new lightsaber effect fitting to the movie but people in fan edits can? (Adywan's editing sans the Obi-wan/Vader fight is godly).

    I demand consistent lightsabre color!

Agreed, Consistent lightsabers should have been Primary when restoring the movies.
I also did think that Vader's lightsaber in ROTJ was not red enough either. ESB is the only one of the OT that got the lightsabers right

Yeah, I always get this orange vibe from his LS in ROTJ and pink from ANH.

The color is off to some extent in all three OT DVDs, although the worst of all is ANH, where they had to re-color the whole thing digitally due to degradation of the original negative.

I just wish they'd go back and find some pristine old theater prints and get the color right for once. It shouldn't be that hard to find a good original print of each OT film and at least that would give them a solid point of reference color-wise.

To me, color is an important part of a good picture. It doesn't matter how many nose pores you can see on a Blu Ray, if the color sucks then you've just got an incredibly clear version of a crappy-looking picture.

And just for the sake of making sure that my tired old brain didn't skip over a few key syllables in that last post of mine (one of those days so far... oy!) I wasn't suggesting that they use pristine theatrical prints as master copies for the DVDs - only that the theatrical prints be used as a reference source for a new, more accurate re-coloring and remastering of the films for future digital releases.

I've always felt the flaws in the OT are what makes them charming. I don't like any of the "corrections" made and the added content. That's just my personal preference, though. I'm old...I'm allowed.lol :p
