Finn was about to succeed at something so naturally the writers couldn’t allow that to happen.

I thought he will. I'm glad he doesn't but they'll need to give him an interesting arc besides, cleaning and sweeping Snoke's ship.

I wouldn't have wanted him to die but it would have been a good scene if he did. I would have preferred Rose to have knocked Finn aside like she did but not crash with him and instead she drives her ship into the cannon. I feel like her dying like that would have been a really fitting end for her. I also didn't care much for her character and would have rather she had a heroic death then see more of her in Ep.IX.

Did you see the scene? His gun was already melted off and he was trying to ram it.

No he shouldn't have died. His arc would have felt incomplete with no major payoff. I'm still waiting for Finn to face off against Kylo for round 2 anyway.

My first though was "Damn! Disney/LFL is 'bout to get real!!". But then he got saved, and for good reason.

I like that he didn't die, but that would have been a really nice touch for the character. Self sacrifice was such a big part of the movie and was hammered on a lot, so it was good to have Rose swoop in and put an end to that noise.

Should've died. He seems to be there only to have some fun with Phasma anyway. And since Phasma is dead his meaning of life is lost and he'll feel very depressed now. :D

No reason for him to die. Now the reasons (in the story) for him to live are still forthcoming. He was necessary in TFA not so much in this film soooo...yeah I got nothing and my lack of faith in JJ Abrams, Lucasfilm (he doesn't matter anymore but) Rian Johnson is disturbing....

He got a girl to fall in love with him and sacrifice everything about herself to save him.

Something that Kylo failed to do with Rey.

I'm very glad he isn't dead. Even though he survived, the scene still wasn't pointless. The fact that he decided to sacrifice himself is something big in itself. He was stopped by somebody else. You know, it's kind of like pulling the trigger and not knowing the gun is empty.

Well, let me put it this way with FInn.

If he went in, I'd be ok with it.

Either or really. Flawed character imo. Not his fault, that falls on the writers/Disney

The only thing that should have died was the script. Utter nonsense and disappointment.

No it was the right call for Rose to save him, they spent so much of the movie in each other's company I wanted to see it continue into episode 9.

I think enough people had sacrificed themselves in this movie.
Finn doing it too would've been a bit much.

Im certain itll be a happy thing where they get all the steppin fetchit fun out of the way by the end of the trilogy and then they can kill him off in a way that makes the others look more heroic by comparison

I think he should have, yes. He's gone from being a Co main character in TFA to a sidekick for all intents and purposes. They basically created a whole side quest storyline in TLJ just to give him something to do. It's a shame because he's a good character, but he's been wasted by RJ. Not sure what he's going to contribute to episode 9. It would have been a big emotional hit for the audience for him to die in TLJ and it would have been a reasonable end to his character arc.

No I'm glad they didn't kill him off I'm expecting him to play a huge part in IX. His reunion with rey said everything. Yes, TLJ was all about Luke, Rey and Kylo and Finns role was diminished slightly however the film still heightened the profile of his character.

I think the Finn fans are judging far too early, he will play a much larger role in IX not a Jedi but he will take his place at Rey's side as he did in TFA.

What is he going to do in 9 though? He's not a force user like Rey, he's not an ace Pilot like Poe. His whole story so far has been built around facing his old nemesis Phasma, which he's done now, and the relatively bland sidequest mission to find a codebreaker. His role within the resistance has basically been 'I can tell you insider info about the First Order'. I like the character and actor, but I'm not sure what he can contribute to the next movie that's going to blow anyone's mind. To me the best outcome for his character may be to sacrifice himself for the cause.
