This is almost verbatim how I saw it all playing out. Except I think it will be a Leia & Rey combo of sorts, due to how "important" Rey is supposed to be revealed as in the coming films.

I think you may be onto something here. The potential for 10, 11 12 (and beyond) may mean that Episode 9 may end in a really interesting way.

Oh, and I think you mean 'The First Order' rather than 'New Order' who were one of my favourite bands of the 80s :)

i think it would defintly be a surprisng twist if Snoke turned out to be Bernard Sumner...... and Rey and Luke with the force ghost of Ian Curtis have to create a Division of Joy to battle the new order :p

The following will not entail any in depth analysis or pertinent speculation but solely my feelings on the matter. Ben killed his daddy and still doesn't feel like a big bad darksider like his grandaddy EFF HIM I HOPE REY DECAPITATIES HIM. (if he has a change of heart before then so be it). That is all dictated not read

I am really enjoying reading everyone's input on this. Lots of good reasoning.

I dread the redemption arc repeating itself still, though. And why do these young men get so teary eyed and emotional when they commit these atrocities? Both Anakin and Kylo turn on the waterworks before going really dark, which doesn't show them to be very confident in their decisions. It makes them look weak and manipulated by outside influences. Would it be so distasteful to see a villain who says to himself 'this is my path, to destroy the good inside myself and bring that clarity of darkness to the Galaxy' ?

Am I wrong for wanting to see a Skywalker villain with no remorse? The SW universe is about redemption for those that stray like @ArynCrinn and others say. Even as softly expressed as in a character like Lando. I don't doubt the abilities of the story group and writers going forward to entertain us and deliver a variation on Anakin's story.

I am just going to hold out hope that we can see something new. For Kylo Ren to be at the same crossroads as his grandfather and his uncle but to decide to stay the course to the bitter end. Damn the torpedoes. Full steam ahead. Ride into Hell with a bucket of water.

The sap in me wants to see him redeemed...the feisty part of my personality wants a really, really evil bad guy who will go down with the ship until the end as you've described!

i'm trying not to get ahead of myself with the ST and trying to keep an open mind, but the way i feel right now:

if Ben Solo isn't redeemed and/or doesn't live to atone, i will be very disappointed.

The way I see it is that Ben will attempt to do good but isn't redeemed but he THINKS that he is redeemed .

I thought that too until I read the novel. Ren is clearly weakened after killing his father after reading that section. I hate to say it, but after reading TFA Ren is the most complex character which makes him kinda my favorite now.... I know that's horrible. I just dig complex mental case characters.

it's a pretty ambiguous reaction. almost like he's waiting for something to happen. to feel stronger? to feel something.

and then he realizes it's not coming and there's a vague sense of horror.

i took it as: if he said it was "too late" before, now he really believes it. and for no real benefit.

    Well, they were, actually.

That would be Palpatine and Snoke.

Snoke is the main villan, not Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren is very similar to Vader, he is torn between two sides. I would make sense if he sacrificed himself like Vader did.

I recently (while thinking about Kylo Ren killing his father and what kind of story that sets up) I suddenly remembered a studio Ghibli made film by Miyazaki's son based on (rather loosely) on the wonderful Ursula le Guin's Earthsea books (a rather loose interpretation of The Farthest Shore and Tehanu ) - "Tales From Earthsea" which I rather like and I think on some levels there is a similar light and dark theme going on as with Star Wars dark and light side of the Force...and most importantly in Tales of Earthsea (and The Farthest Shore respectively) the character of Prince Arren kills his father by stabbing him with a sword at the beginning of the story, steals the sword that is his inheritance, runs away, and is doing all that because he is possessed by an evil wizard and there is this good wizard too (Ged) and there is fighting between light and dark wizards...
Why do I think there are some very uncanny parallels with Arren (Ben Solo/Kylo) and the evil wizard brainwashing and controlling him (Snoke). In the end Arren kills the evil wizard with the help of a girl (who by the way completely dislikes him in the beginning)...

I think there is a very interesting parallel with the story I think we are see in the new SW film(s)...

I presume at least some people here may have watched this film and/or read the books...I have not seen anybody bring this up anywhere. So just putting this here as "a food for thought"...

(Having seen this parallel I now want to re-read the Earthsea books yet again. Already re-reading Wizard of Earthsea. Le Guin is incredible! Completely on par to Talkien but also super original and doing her own brilliant thing...)

(The second video is a review and I don't think it is good, but it tells the story in a condensed form more or less so I'm putting it here just for those who haven't seen the movie...)

I agree...maybe Snoke literally injected Kylo Ren with some sort of "evil" thing which is why he probably turned SO WILLINGLY as well as because he obsesed over his grandfather ...
