Personally I'm in favor of going a different direction with the openings of the Anthology movies. I think there needs to be a few differences to set apart the saga chapters from the stand-alone films, and finding a new way to open the movies would be a very obvious choice.

I see only two potential drawbacks:

    1. Because the stand-alone films will take place in different time periods, there needs to be some way to immediately inform the audience when the events are transpiring. The scroll does serve that purpose rather effectively.

    2. A certain percentage of fans tend to get upset about breaks in tradition, and there might be some blow-back.

It could start with the Star Wars logo flying backwards and at the top if the scrawl, it could have a cool graphic in YELLON saying, " Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or A STAR WARS Story: Rogue One .

The Clone Wars movie from a while ago had one if I recall correctly, and that fits in the same category as Rogue One, so yeah. However, I won't be disappointed if it doesn't

I´d prefer someting in a style of usual Clone wars episodes.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...
A Star Wars story: Rogue one...
    Action :)

Yes, because it's a Star Wars movie...consecutive episode or otherwise.

Now this will probably test a lot of peoples memory but did Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure have a scroll? It was a Star Wars story afterall. I absolutely hated the Ewoks and refused to go see the movie and the fact that nobody seems to talk about that movie shows I can't be the only one! I'm just glad they didn't do a Jar Jar Binks spin-off movie to!

Pretty sure it had an opening narration instead of the text.

    Ewok movies - no crawl/scroll
Clone Wars movie - no crawl/scroll BUT had a voiceover.
    Holiday Special - no crawl/scroll

Rogue One and the other anthologies should follow suit and have no crawl/scroll, they're not "Episode"'s. ;)

YES it's not star wars without a opening scroll. Even the games have opening scrolls.

I'm sticking to tradition, opening crawl expected in every star wars movie whether it be a spin-off or part of the trilogy.

the crawl serves a very important role, since we are thrown right into action, but it could be done slightly different, other coloour/different pacing adjusted to a reworked opening theme etc. ... the logo could grow into the screen instead of dissappearing away .

R1 will be the closest in timeline to ANH, so the classic details will probably be very important

I would suggest that because games are a different medium, they are allowed the leway to get away with this. I am torn on this issue. I think just production creds and staggered film credit intro over visual shots like alot of films culminating with "rogue one" -- then slowly "a star wars story" fizzing in.

an even more interesting question is: if they have a classic opening & a crawl; what music should be played ?? We already know that Jonh Williams will not make the score, but using the classic opening theme rearranged is not difficult, but they will probably have to make some changes to it so it fits the tone of the movie.... Sooo, what do you think:

CLASSIC OPENING THEME, should it be used with the Crawl ?
    - YES !
    - Yes, but rearranged, so it is slightly different.
    - NO !

If you are thinking NO, then what should they use instead ?

    Y
    Agree....

it will most likely just say..

    STAR WARS
    ROUGE ONE

although, thinking up a scroll may be difficult because of the original Star Wars scroll. It already explained there was cival war and the Death Star. It will be cool to see the Death Star again though......

I'm ok either way, but tending to yes.

The crawl allows to get a lot of the setup out of the way, you can just dive into the action and skip some exposition scenes between characters... granted in this case, for Rogue One, they probably don't need a lot of setup because we already have the ANH crawl that already gave much of the same information (we assume), but I'm betting that they don't want to discard it because it will probably come in handy when we get to an old republic anthology, you will need a crawl to tell people, this is even a "longer" time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

So many questions now that focus has moved onto R1... Should there be a crawl? Should Alderaan be the centerstage planet? Will we see Vader & princess Leia ??. I think there is no need for Leia, but Vader almost need to be in it, since he is the one chasing the thiefs (who knows he might even be the main lead) :) Check out this thread i just created about the possible role of Alderaan as a place of action, besides the chases through space... ;)

https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/will-we-see-alderaan-in-rouge-one.8178/ I started thinking of Alderaan after reading this thread, it would be a great planet to fade down to after the Crawl, we have never really seen it, but the familarity would be very strong anyway (leia) (epic fail)
