I was only talking about the directorial standpoint. A director only deals with the visualisation and artistic vision of the script. He controls the cast (an is involved with the casting itself) and crew and gives direction about characterisation. Star Wars in the first place pretty much limits the director on a certain level. There are no flashbacks in star wars, no slow motion (except one scene), barely any narration, no time jump etc. It always begins with a crawl, in medias res into the story, and ends with the same music. There is also a time limit of around 130 minutes of runtime. These conditions already heavily limit what a director can do with the vision without beeing too far from the previous ones.
The prequels for instance were the direct opposite of the originals in style/tonation/vision/pacing/characterisation, while still having the same limitations on the narration as the originals. On contrary what the apologists say it didnt help at all. Spielberg or JJ would've improved the prequels on every single level even with the same shallow scrpits. They would've been able to bend the tone/ drama/ dialogues/narration and improve the dircetion on acting to an extent where the scenes are still good despite having a terrible script.

About TFA im not so sure about it. If Spielberg would've done the movie with the same script it might've turned out to be better, or worse, who really knows...
Would A.I. turned out to be better if Stanley Kubrick has had directed it as he was going to? Maybe...

Its a bit funny that since TFA originality seems to be the only and most important condition which a movie has to meet. Please name me blockbusters from the past 5 years which were good and also original...

There is barely any originality left in Hollywood. All they do is sequels/reboots and shameless ripoffs of Japanese and other Asian movies/stories. However, if there is someone who can give us a great and original SW episode, it will be Rian Johnson.
