Should the Skywalker story end with IX?

YES. I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this. The Skywalkers are great and all, but with so much EU and Legends stories that have been out it seems as if they should be getting some spotlight. I want to see perhaps the Old Republic battling the SIth Empire on the big screen, the Yuuzhan Vong War, or something of the sort. It's time for a refresh on the Star Wars Movies.

 

I'm of the opinion that KK was right when she called the episodes the story of the Skywalkers, so if they move onto actually doing X through XII (which, let's be honest, they almost certainly will) I think the family should play a role, but they should have minimal if any interaction in any of the Anthology films.

 

For me, it really depends on where we end things in IX. Will there be finality there? Will we have explored everything we need to explore with the Skywalkers? If yes, then end it... though at that point I don't think there should be an Episode X. If no, then the saga continues.

 

I say yes. Not so much because there were meant to be 9 episodes, but because I don't want the Saga to just rumble on into mediocrity. I'm really not sure I want Episodes 16, 15, 22 and so on.

If there must be another Saga that touches on the Skywalkers, I'd rather it be set in an entirely new time period with little connection to the Saga we know. Ideally, though I'd prefer standalone films or a new Saga set in the SW universe but entirely unconnected to the Skywalker saga or the eras in which it is set. Something that has the capacity to be as rich and developed as, say, the Old republic era.

We explored all we needed to explore in Return of the Jedi if you think about it. There's always a way to carry it on if you really want to. It's whether or not it gets boring that is the real question.

 

I want Episodes X-XII and I want them to again focus on the next generation of Skywalkers because of the great legacy that will be left by Luke,Han and Leia my 3 fave heroes!

 

Still hoping Kylo redeems himself and the next trilogy follows him on his path of redemption. That would be a story that is unfamiliar and it still follows the Skywalker lineage if rumors and speculation are to be believed.

 

I'd be behind this actually. my biggest fear with X through XII would be that they'd rush into them and they wouldn't feel like a distinct trilogy all of their own but rather just an extension of the ST.
This way it would have its own identity to stand on.

 

So Episode IX should end with Kylo Ren redeeming himself and then Episodes X-XII deal with Kylo Ren's path of redemption. It's a great idea.

I think also Episodes X-XII should deal with finding out about the origins of the Force during peace time. But since it's SW. It should deal with at least perhaps a minor planetary conflict or a war within a sector or region instead of a galaxy-wide conflict.

Yes and no. I honestly want the main story to end at IX. They could do X-XII, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But I just have this gut feeling that the main story should end at IX, with us having seen 3 generations of Skywalkers. If they did do X-XII, however, I'd like to see Kylo's redemption path. See how he deals with it.

 

...unless his story also ends in IX. I forget where I read this when I was little, but GL's initial drafts for 10 - 12 took place thousands of years into the future after IX, with only Fhreepio and Artoo still being alive .

 

Now that would be interesting to see. Then I guess they'd be the Obi-Wan role and die after they tell the new leads about it. Hmm...unless of course they find a way to preserve one of the leads in the ST, sort of like how Revan reappeared looooong after his time. Perhaps freeze Rey, Kylo or Finn in carbonite or cryogenically? That might be interesting...

Perhaps. I just wonder what the galaxy would be like so long after Luke's time...the Jedi, the Sith, the Knights of Ren, the Force...it could all be just a myth by then.

 

I think, imagining thousands of years later...it will be on a whole 'nother level...there's no more evil in the galaxy...everyone gets along...things are perfect...but there's one catalyst that screws it all up, unleashing a universal terror that the galaxy has to unite to fight...this threat is Jar Jar Skywalker .

 

Jar Jar Skywalker will bring imbalance to the Force. He is the Unchosen One. Anakin reincarnate.
