Do you think that Disney should re-release the prequels with some of the really good deleted scenes that would have made the movies better received? Example: They could re release TPM as a special edition and add in a few deleted scenes that should have been in the movie such as Anakin fighting gredo, and re edit parts like the person Who made the Phantom edit did? And they could also shoot new scences with Darth maul and add them in to give his character more depth and development.
BTW I'm not a prequel hater I actually really loved them but they do have flaws and who dosnt want more Maul

No Special Editions anymore please. Also, the only person who can have a say is Lucas, not Disney, and as we know he isn't the best at judging when it comes to tweaking things and special editing them...What is done should not be undone. This is not the theater where you can improve on stuff. Whatever is there is there for better or worse. It's history. Also, I'm not a prequel hater either. There is a lot that I don't like in the Prequels and a lot could be made to improve them, but that boat has sailed. It had to be done when they were made, not now. That's just my opinion of course...

Too late... they already re-released TPM in 3D in 2012, which is technically a "special edition".
However, it bombed at the box-office and plans to 3D the other films were cancelled.

Kept my 3D glasses from TPM 3D though....

No. SE won't make the movies good anyways. So, just leave the movies how they are.

    Move along, move along...

I don't think that Anakin fighting Greedo will improve TPM; that scene was cut for the best of reasons. Given, though, that each of the prequel films has been changed on at least two occasions - when they were released on DVD and then on Blu-ray - the latest versions are already special editions in all-but name.

It would only be a nice idea if they went back and re-mastered the VFX to this decade's standards.

I heard that the 3D version of "Attack of the Clones" was released in Europe.

It appears that it was shown only during Celebration Europe in 2013. Source

Technically, there have been prequel special editions. The 2011 release of TPM with CGI Yoda was one of them. Also, the DVD box set was titled prequels special edition.

The 3D reissue made over 100 Millionen at the Box Office.

And the other two movies were cancelled because Lucasfilm decided to focus on the development of The Force Awakens.

TPM didn't do as well as Lucasfilm was hoping, that's for sure. However, it did accrue 43.5 million dollars in 2012 US domestic, which isn't too shabby. ROTJ Special Edition accrued 45.5 million dollars in 1997 (or twice that much $ adjusted for inflation). (Source: Box Office Mojo)

I'd love to see the Prequels get extended edition treatments -- those would be special.

As long as they are not extensive and completely change the story, I wouldn't mind. What I mean is that . . . as long as the special edition changes are more about technical details, as they were with the Original Trilogy . . . I wouldn't mind.

There was this one deleted scene in TPM where Queen Amidala addresses the Senate. It was so emotional I always wanted that scene in the film I think it would have made the film better. Lucas said it was too emotional for Star Wars which I think is odd because OB1 got real emotional when Anakin wanted to go after Padme when she fell out the transport in AOTC. I love the films too I think the boat has sailed, we should leave them be, but I'm up for it if ever they wanted to, I'd buy SE editions of the prequels.

I think Episode 2 & 3 needs a specal edition, but not for the reasons you might think.

As we all know Episode 2 was the first movie shot fully digital.
George used Sony CineAlta HDC-F950 (1080p/FHD) cameras, that were years ahead of their time.
But almost 20 years the time "caught up".

Since we have formats like 4k and 8k (in the future) these two movies will start to look incredible poor compared to the OT and TPM
They need to re render it in 8k or 4k

    +
The Episode 1 naboo battlescene needs some more rendering passes.
That was btw the only scene shot digital in Episode 1, the rest was in 35mm film.
    ++
the same for the OT SE

edit: The cgi in Episode 3 is still damn impressive.
You can really see how the cgi evolved in those 3 years after Ep 2.

On the whole, I'm happy with the effects in all the films just as they are. It's only aesthetics, after all. When George Lucas made the decision to make improvements and adjustments in 1997, I was quite sanguine about it because they're his films and I don't have such a passionate attachment to films I'd seen as a child that I never want to see them changed or updated.

However, I wouldn't be comfortable with the new owners of the films making changes to something that they didn't have a hand in creating in the first place.

Only update the VFX to today standards. The VFX in the PT did not age well at all. It's looks even worse on my 4k TV.

And if they update the effects to today's standards, in a few years time when your 4k tv is yesterday's news, people will be demanding the effects be updated again because of the further advances in technology!
