I can assure you, the kids watch EVERYTHING, and far beyond the borders of the US! Rebels make a difference! Of course Episode 1 made a difference too, but you feel quite uncomfortable when you know the good boy you see in the movie is destined to end up like Dart Vader. Then you either like Dart Vader as well, or you feel confused and mistaken in your judgments. For young people that could be very very confusing! Perhaps more masks of Dart Vader and Troopers have been bought than costumes of Luke or Anakin.

Ezra is here to make a difference, even if it is against the millennial outdated code of already non -present at his time Jedi council! (sorry master Yoda).

There is always space for more movies being done by Disney, including with real actors, or by someone else. The idea is what motivates the people. Enough of Hollywood soup operas. Here is something real on the scene, let it be played good.

If there are fears of apocalyptic events such as 2012, probably there is a desperate need of heroes who would find a way out. Heroes who would not choose to lose hand or even life infront of an old emperor, as Luke did, but who will strike him out of the game, in the name of the common good. (as finally the evil Dart Vader did it - he could do it decades earlier if not for the absurd Jedi antagonism). You need a strong hero who is at the same time good one, and help you how to live. You don't need an old martyr who will show you how to die in peace. Especially when you try to make morale in the new generation expected to make a real change in the world.

Star Wars is the best place to show it understandably to the kids and older ones.

Old age? Yoda lived 600 or 700 years. We have to get used to the real age of Star Wars, that was once the age of the earth, too. Ezra returned my faith in the Force. Moreover, Ezra is a character of cartoon, so you can have him easily boarding Einstein's light speed and arriving at Corusant ahead of time (time retardation at speed of light, including his own biological time) at the same time the Solo family thinks it rules the new republic... Ezra can tell them something about the real force. But it won't be done, too much money are poured in today's scenario.

Star Wars need a change of paradigm and it finds it in the imperfect boy Ezra with perfect Force benevolence towards him!

Ezra and the rest could play a separate timeline not connected with episode 7. They don't have to, there are years between. of course, Einstein ship could eliminate those years, but why. Ezra lives in another timeline of galaxy and he fights the empire. Perhaps he establishes the rebels who destroyed the death star. If I was in the shoes of those filmmakers, I would create a completely different saga starting from Ezra and going beyond Coruscan- controlled galaxy. If needed, in another galaxy. With another set of heroes who better implement the demands and will of the Force. Jedi failed. What we will see in Episode 7 is a ruined empire and a new republic trying to build what is left, i.e. to use some imperial technology, possibly structures, to assure the governance of multi-thousand world system. You think it is easy? In their administrative nightmare they will encounter just the same problems of the old republic and the empire. (as some sci-fi novels develop the story). One thing is to blow up a Death Star with sacrificing so many pilots. Another things is to rule those same worlds better than the rulers before you. I don't want to be in position of Han, Lea, Luke. I want to be in position of Ezra.

He is the free beginning and therefore very promising of something better than structures upon structures. Something idealistic, a better performance of the same Force. If we allow it to flow thru us, and understand it never stops with any status quo, not even the Jedi masters' council status quo. That's why they failed, because they never contemplated the dark side would be able to return after its pre-historic crush. Perhaps Han, Lea, Luke are too much assured the evil is won over once and for all. Their children will show them otherwise. Story repeated again and again, regardless of ages and galaxies.

Let it be different with Ezra! I wanna tell that to filmmakers, to myself, to you. He will be a character needed for our times, start ruling from the darkness that is to come and that he is already inside in his nightmare visions, into the light. I wouldn't bet my life to Han's piloting skills or Luke's benevolence that extends even towards Palpatine and Dart Vader. I'd probably believe Ezra (if such person ever appears in real life) to the point to allow him to show me the road, although unknown to me, and then to let me decide do I want to follow that road. Reading a number of books on the Force of Star Wars with fictional but connected characters and scenarios to the main one, let me say it is worth of thinking of more and bigger capabilities of the same Force. Not only who is son of whom and whose genes are better than ours. It is worth to know, it makes up Star Wars original story, but it doesn't end here. It would be too limited Force to choose one lineage for its goals. What if it fails, as with Anakin, and Han's son. How many padawans of Yoda failed to the dark side? Perhaps there is something wrong with the teaching in first place. No revenge against the evil ones? How then one could build anything better, he will become like them. I bet we will see the New Republic looking pretty much like Coruscant we already know, center of the Jedi (the light) and the empire (the darkness). May be several more beautiful buildings. That doesn't make the real change. So what is the difference and when we will finally be told of the real force of the Force? Because it is not only to jump in the air and to control light saber, as the youths think of it. The Force is to bring the goodness and protection to the all people, as Ezra said in the temple, and that apparently didn't happen during the Jedi-controlled republic for millenia. Parallels with Earth could be made, but I will stop here.

I have to make the obvious conclusion, after all we know of Star Wars 6 episodes, countless Clone Wars, sci-fi books (although not part of the official saga) and now Rebels.

Anakin was NOT the chosen one who would bring balance in the Force fulfilling some old Jedi prophecy! Qui-Gon Jinn wrongly assumed that for the young boy, gifted indeed with midichlorians and powers. Jedi council failed to train him well, or failed themselves even before they failed Anakin (for reasons I already talked about). In anyway, Anakin did not fulfill the prophecy to bring balance in the Force. Neither Luke did, althoug he tried hard to correct the millenial error of both his father and his Jedi predecessors.

Ezra could be that person! Don't write him off too soon to the Dark Side, only because he dared to use certain powers beyond the reach of a common Jedi. You and me may never succeed in his position - that's why there is the hero ideal image. Moreover, he is not made to be perfect, and that his his biggest advantage besides the Force. He doesn't even look perfect from outside, as cartoon image that lacks perfection, or when we see an actor instead. There were more beautiful Jedi, Anakin and Luke included. He is made to look more human in every respect.

My bet is on Ezra as the one who will bring the balance in the Force. If it is meant to happen in our days in the Star Wars Saga the most popular one to keep minds and hearts for decades and generations. I don't make religion out of it, but it would be good if religions compare themselves to Jedi order and try to fix some obvious shortcomings by themselves. While we don't have outright manifestation of the Force on Earth, there is always a chance a gifted person to set a new beginning. Especially when the earth is already in its initial steps in the space era. If we are to be informed about that by non-traditional means, not by MSM, perhaps Star Wars is the best place to develop characters that tomorrow may (or may not) rise on Earth as giving real perspectives to embattled humanity. We are already inside the dark and controlled by Dark Lords, if you will. I can quote more, but everyone has his own view on earthly matters.

What is important here, is to be recognized the new promising beginning in Rebels, with or without connection to Episode 7, and to be given a boost in the next months and years. Even if it remains only TV serial with kids as the main audience, even then it matters much more than MSM, School and Sunday school. You know what I mean. The young generation (and not only) need heroes and do not find them in the real life. It needs change, everyone speaks of a change, from president to pope, and no one offers a such in real terms. Perhaps we are still in prep mode for such, and we are being tested, pretty much as Ezra in the Temple. Are we afraid to lose what we already have? Are we afraid to die may be, or to lose property, or status in life? What if tomorrow we are offered much more than that together with a better understanding of the world we are living in? I can say more, but this is not the place to discuss so much earthly matters.

Rather to accent on the new character Ezra who soon will eclipse both Anakin and his son Luke. And if we have the son of Lea taking the Dark Side, then we have an even bigger problem than the Dart Vader created himself for the Jedi. That proves the descendants of Anakin were not the chosen ones to bring balance in the Force, neither he was. That means, some others should rise, influenced by the Force much more than the young Anakin, if we take the Jedi words as true.

Sure Disney understands that perfectly. Besides Episode 7 or any other in that sequence, Disney are wise to start a new timeline, that of Rebels, with new characters introduced as alternative to the old heroes who failed to fulfill our brightest expectations (or those of Yoda). Whether they will merge, and when, is hard to predict.

I think Ezra might not be as important in the OT or ST unless he does something dramatic in second season etc.

He is introduced to make something dramatic in the Rebels, no matter if he appears as old master in Episode 7 or 8. Because otherwise you could go on with Asuko as main hero if you want to preserve the status quo with only one major family line having the extreme influence of the Force. Ezra already breaks that status quo. Compared, Asuko was nowhere near as padawan of Anakin.

Ok I take your point Im not saying Ezra doesn't deserve it just those who were in it made it great, Ashoka being brought back was great because it would bring the final apprentice before TCW for Vader to a close.

They should put out more Jedi. Ashoka being one of them. I never liked the idea of only one lineage having the Force. The galaxy is large enough for more.

Episode 7 originally should appear on Christmas 2014, is it not?At least it was expected by the people/kids I know, so I didn't pay attention to official notes, having it as granted to see it on Christmas 2014. And then oups, Christmas 2015! Did I mess up the years around New Year 2015, but it wasn't that. Seems to me, It was postponed 1 year.

Was it postponed to give chance to the Rebels to develop the new characters?

Other reasons may exist, outside the Star Wars saga. It is more likely something else to slowdown it. Now we have 2015, 16,17 schedule. Quite ambitious, among predictions of blood moons and alike. Not the end of the world, but... I mean, are we certain everything will be OK in 2017 to see Episode 9? Having the Star Wars saga as one powerful tool to shape public opinion for 3-4 decades, especially kids' opinion who of course later grow up, everything is possible. The OT came at the end of the Cold War and was pretty influential. (Released in ex-Soviet block in 1980s or so). Would Star Wars play similar role again, and if yes, what?

To go back to Ezra, his presentation in the Temple was much more impressive than Luke's encounter with the Dark Side at Yoda's place. Young Anakin wasn't that impressive either. I can't sleep thinking of Ezra using the dark side to almost kill the dark side's own servant the Inquisitor :D

Well first of all; During the Rebels closed-door press conference that I attended at Celebration, Dave Filoni SPECIFICALLY said that Kanan and Ezra are "bridging" characters from Ep's III to IV, and that he'd "love to see them in flesh and blood on the screen" and "would be happy to give the permission if someone asked to use them (in a movie)", but apparently no one has....that he let on.

Furthermore, (perhaps I'm reading too deeply into it) in a SW.com editorial about Aftermath", it is mentioned that "not only will we see our favorite heroes, but also some other familiar faces". You might read into this as perhaps someone like Kanan, Ezra, or even Ahsoka...but somehow I doubt that as it would ruin the suspense in Rebels episode-to-episode struggle for life that we see. I would be more inclined to believe that those "other familiar faces" would likely be maybe EU characters that are recognizable to us...that they'll spring on us unexpectedly!

I guess anything could happen, but I suspect that even if we don't SEE any Rebels characters, we're likely to hear their names in reference, perhaps as soon as Aftermath or even TFA. I guess we'll see.

Either way Ezra, and the entire Ghost crew are undoubtedly more important than we know at this point, and we haven't heard the last of them...I believe they'll at least be mentioned....someone will.

TFA was supposed to come out in may, like every other star wars film. They only pushed it back because they couldn't finish it in time.

Thank you for that important info, one insider comes and speaks, that sounds great!

IMHO as I already may have said, Star Wars is playing quite more important role than entertainment sci fi, and is destined to shape minds of young people in long term. The Episodes are great, but only 2h each. The TV serials did what couldn't be done in the Episodes, the story to be longer and closer to the real life, with characters not so polarized but having both good sides and human shortcoming sides. I am not that much concerned of the Episodes, that are already almost done fact, I expect them anxiously of course. But more concerned of where Star Wars sequels go together, including the TV serials as integrated part of it. They show a new beginning for common people, like Ezra, who could be accepted as models by more kids, more than Anakin or Luke. However good Luke is, the common kids know they can't copy him because he is too perfect character. Still they can try to copy Ezra, in his human part of making mistakes and speaking what he thinks of. May be it is good Ezra is only cartoon character for now. Personification in actor will lessen that influence imo.

May be I am just wrong, and all that are nice episodes of sci-fi, not of philosophy. Or may be they serve both functions.

I agree with the more jedi request but if it happened the effectiveness of order 66 would not have been a success, yep we are in 2015, Ezra has experienced the darkside in Season 1 just like Anakin when he was young.

If we are talkng of prophecy of Jedi, it is the one who brings balance in power.

If we are talking of earthly prophecy, it is the manchild of Revelation 12 helped by his 144,000 companions. (ezra being an IMAGE of one of them?)

Moreover, Ezra doesn't have to get older, if after a special training in Rebels, he pops up in the Episodes at nearly the same age. How? You know by definition the space AND time travel tied up together. The demonstrated in Star Wars hyperspace jump have also a time component, by definition of such hyperspace jump, although it is not shown up to public until now in Star Wars. Other scifi films show it.

Hehe, I agree and not at the same time. It is easy to imagine Anakin 2. Too easy to be true. Or too good to be true. Which one is better for Star Wars?

I do not agree that Ezra will be the Jedi that brings balance to the force. I still believe that is still the destiny of the Skywalker family. With that said, I do believe that Ezra will be an incredibly important key to bringing balance to the force.

I suppose Ezra could discover that teaching in even better form. After his initiation in the Temple, he asked what is there more, how many other things could be found, why not to make a base there. Another one, including Kanan, would have carefully avoid the place for some time, or may be never to return again. Ezra is not only unafraid of what he saw, he asks for more!

He already opened the holocron. of Obi Wan. He could find an ancient crystal/ holocron of how to build a ship to move thru space as well as time. In order for Ezra to appear in Episode 8 as young and powerful Jedi who brings balance in the Force.

Moreover, I think the teaching of Yoda is not enough. It brought to dead end Anakin, the so much promising Jedi conceived with midichorians! Count Dooku was apprentice of Yoda too, although he is not a good example, he pursued personal egoistic interests. Yoda is not the absolute knowledge, although it seems all the other Jedi lack the skills and wisdom of Yoda. Moreover, Yoda passed away and will be now a spirit in Episode 7.

Ezra could discover in one of those temples, with or without Yoda's help, the ghost of an ancient master who would tell him knowledge of the Force beyond what the level of Yoda is. Why? For the purpose Ezra to become the chosen one who would bring the balance in the Force.

So I hope the final purpose of Ezra is set above the common level of rebels, going into the mystical and prophetic for both Star Wars galaxy and the Earth.

Anakin lost that chance, and Luke tried to repair it but not to full success. You have an imperial star fleet that despite the death of the emperor and the destruction of the Death star, is still the biggest fire power in the galaxy. Perhaps we will have battles until the end of Episode 9.

Frankly the teaching of Yoda and Jedi weren't that strong to oppose the rising of the Dark side in first place. It should be stronger, more convincing. The fear- anger- suffering sequence proved futile in the time of real battles and light saber duels. Only when a good Jedi used some anger, he opposed successfully the Dark Lord, in almost all cases. The Dark Side is shown as being stronger. Now it has an upper hand on both personal skills (1 dark against 2 light warriors) and on space fleets and populations of planets. Unless something big happens.

It needs better morale in first place, better teaching, the people of the majority of planets to believe in the good side. Exactly what Ezra and his parents did with those aired voice records.

Hope Star Wars higher and ever evolving morale will help ours too.

10,000 Jedi according to Kanan existed in the galaxy before Order 666. How is it possible one family plus Yoda and Obi Wan, and now Kanan and Ezra, to surpass that?

We need new teachers to enter the scene. Kanan's words after the temple: "I know what it is in there - the past" could prove prophetic. The past of the good side, the connection with the ghosts of good masters, I hope - good ones only.

Ezra is not an actor of flesh and blood, you could send him back and forth to any distant galaxy or even time, to meet anyone of your choice, by new devices that already exist in other sci-fi films. Need not crown him as president after the victory, he will refuse it. I believe he is introduced here in the right place in the right time.
