Ugh, the most typical SW ranked list in existence. At least we both agree Clones is the worst. :D

Can't argue with the guy. That's exactly my ranking as well. Although I have recently toyed with the idea of moving TPM ahead of RotS. For all its faults, TPM is a completely original and ambitious movie whereas RotS is more consistently executed but with a safer approach and story.

As I use to say: "At least TPM its a good entertaining movie." In my point of view TPM its the best of the PT, we had the best visual/pratical effects, best villain and best soundtrack.

I think we all kindof hate the PT on some level...but Pegg just won't let it go.

Making some bad movies is nothing to get mad at George over...What we should be mad at George about is that he messed up the OT in the 90s when he started his incessent tinkering. Jedi Rocks is way worse than anything in the PT.

I completely agree with that. I'd rather have Gungan Karaoke with Jar Jar Binks than Jedi Rocks.

Well, maybe that's a little extreme, but I really don't like Jedi Rocks.

TPM still puts me to sleep. Between the endless exposition, the flat characters and the over-reliance on bad pratfalls and fart jokes, the movie has enough strikes against it in my book. But what really kills it for me is the pointlessness of most of the big final battle. The saber battle is good (though even there... let's just make up some laser doors to conveniently separate our heroes so that we can kill one of them off) but the rest of it... oy.

The whole point is to get into the throne room and arrest the Viceroy, and of course this ends up the least dramatic part of the whole thing.

Then you've got this massive land battle upon which virtually nothing hinges. I still remember the first full trailer for TPM began with that great shot of the grassy hill with a building rumbling sound in the background, a few little prairie dog type critters running away, and then the hovertanks cresting the top of the hill. THAT was what got me more psyched about this movie than anything. But then in the end, that whole thing turns out to be just a diversion to make the throne room infiltration easier (and a showcase for more bad pratfalls.) There was really nothing at stake there. Win or lose, the droid army had already been drawn away from the city before the first shot was fired.

Then there was the space battle. Not only did it occupy very little screen time other than Anakin's goofy little ride, but it was also little more than backup for the diversionary land battle. By the time they took out the control ship, the Viceroy had already been arrested. So in the end, the space battle had no bearing whatsoever on the effort to retake Naboo from the Trade Federation.

A Star Wars film in which the "big" space battle is little more than an afterthought, plot-wise? I know there are folks who would call me a bad Star Wars fan for pointing this out, but it's always bothered the hell out of me. And it's a prime example of why I've just never been able to get emotionally connected to TPM.

You've just put into words exactly how I felt when I was 16, watching TPM on opening day. The movie felt empty. The only compeling part about the ending was the Quigon death, and even that was a little flat. But even with the flat ending, I think TPM is probably the best of the PT.

"The movie felt empty." Yep. It took me until the second time seeing it before it really sunk in that that was what I was feeling about it, but even after my first viewing on opening day, my reaction was far more "Hmmm..." and not much "YEAH!!!" Having been a fan since 1977, I don't believe I've ever wanted to love a movie more in my life. But TPM was more like a first date that didn't take.

For me, ROTS is really the only watchable PT movie for me, probably because it's the only one of the PT films where there's really anything at stake. AOTC, of course, was really just a sloppy blend of self-referential in-jokes, a half-hearted attempt at a detective story, and "Will Anakin get some or won't he?" I don't find it as boring as TPM, but I find it nearly as bad a movie. ROTS, flawed as it is, at least has a few compelling elements to it IMHO.

STAR WARS EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES
STAR WARS EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH
STAR WARS EPISODE I THE PHANTOM MENACE
STAR WARS EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI
STAR WARS EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE
STAR WARS EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
For me, Attack of the Clones is without a doubt the worst of the prequel movies. For me the reason is simple, Anakin and Padme's relationship drama. I have never in my life seen worse on screen chemistry between two characters(I've been told that the Twilight films have worse, but I'm not about to watch them to find out ;)). When a film has two romantic leads, the audience should be able to see their natural chemistry, and should therefore be rooting for them to get together. Yet, when watching Anakin and Padme interact, all I can think about is how I wish they were both in separate rooms, their interactions are that cringe-worthy. If this were a minor part of the film I could more easily forgive it, but large portions of the film are dedicated to their uncomfortable interactions.

That being said, there are some things I like about AotC, Obi-Wan's fight with Jango being a highlight, but there are far more things I really hate about that movie. Boring replacement Sith Lord, check, over reliance on CGI, check, young Boba Fett, check, etc.

Revenge of the Sith has many of the same things I hate about AotC, however, there is not near as much screen time dedicated to Anakin and Padme, therefore giving it the edge over AotC. Although there are some seriously disappointing things in RotS, made all the more so by how awesome they could have been.

    The Phantom Menace is also a rather boring film, however it gets points for a number of things, namely;

Liam Neeson's performance as Qui-Gon Jinn(the character wasn't particularly well written, but Neeson's performance still managed to imbue him with some charisma)

Darth Maul(all of his fight scenes were excellent as was his character design, sadly we didn't learn much about him)

The Score(I think that TPM has the best score of all the Prequels, largely due to the strengths of Duel of the Fates)

It has the most practical effects and sets of the three movies(thus making it hold up better visually than the other two, especially with the passing of time)

As for the OT, I won't bother explaining seeing as most people have a similar ranking for those movies as well, I will say that I absolutely love all three though.

Simon Pegg is absolutely in the right, as am I. The prequels stink on Hoth ice and may they burn in the fires of Korriban (which is canon by the way)

I agree with Pegg on the OT rankings with ESB #1, SW at #2 or more like 1a, and Jedi is clearly #3.

I agree with him that ROTS ties in most with the OT and is probably the most watchable in that respect. But Lucas just dropped the ball on so many key plot points (Anakin's turn, Padme dying of a broken heart, The boring duel on Mustafar) that it is highly overrated by PT fans who say its the best of the 6 movies.

If I concede ROTS is #4, the AOTC is #5 as I like Obiwans detective story. TPM is just a trainwreck and is #6 because it feels like its so disjointed from the other 5 movies with QuiGon as the lead, young Ani and Jar Jar. But the tone is the most SW'ish of the PT movies cause there is a sense of adventure.
