This is what I am assuming as well. I think Johnson was on the same page in a general sense, and the specific details about them being dead and having sold her for drinking money were his own additions.

It still raises questions about who was on the ship and where they were going, and where they came from. I don't think Abrams himself had committed to any particular story point. I got the impression from TFA that Rey and her family weren't actually from Jakku, but that she was marooned there. I guess you could still work that into the TLJ version, which I took to imply that they were from there, or at least had settled (hence why they had a Jakku burial).

I've always been intrigued by how Rey became "free", since TFA seems to imply that she is sold to Unkar Plutt specifically (and TLJ says she was "sold" in any case). I guess there is going to be a future EU story about how Rey earned her freedom somehow (using the force involuntarily as a teenager?).

Why wouldn't it? If you were traveling to the opposite part of the planet the quickest route would be to go into space. It's always puzzled me why people automatically assumed they were leaving the planet.

Well, we never really seen anyone go up. It looks more like a transport then your usual land vehicle that we have seen. Anyone that we have seen use a land vehicle it has been horizontal.

I mean....that's why they're going up. Even in inter-world travels you have to gain altitude to avoid things like trees and mountains etc

It's just movie-code for them leaving the planet when you see a spaceship taking off in a total b-line for the atmosphere. We've never seen a ship not do that when we get the type of shot we were shown, which is probably why I never heard of anyone thinking the ship wasn't leaving the planet. But they could certainly ret-con it to be not the case, as it technically could have just been going somewhere else. But certainly in terms of reading the grammar of cinema, I get the jist that we are meant to believe it is leaving the planet. Even if the canon sticks with the TLJ reveal, there's no reason why they couldn't have been going somewhere else (splurging their new cash?) before they returned to the planet (whether soon after or long after).

One problem I have with what Kylo told Rey regarding her parents is this- he knew about her parents based on what he read in her mind, and according to him they are dead in a pauper's grave on Jakku. This means even Rey knew that they were dead and buried on Jakku. Then what was she doing waiting all those years for them to return? It makes Rey seem very messed up if this is indeed the truth.

While I am still okay with Rey's parent being from a simple non-force using background, I hope they retcon the circumstances for her being left on Jakku.

Pretty much all the ships we saw on Jakuu were spaceships and space ships travel faster around a planet in space. There's no movie code here. You have created one in your own mind. This wouldn't be a ret-con since JJ knew the Rey answer during post-production of TFA.

If you're living in Niima Outpost you're not going to catch a Delta flight out of the city. You're only exit is via spaceship.

" Unlike almost everyone else in the world, Ridley has known for years who Rey’s parents are, since Abrams told her on the set of The Force Awakens. Ridley believes that nothing ever changed: “I thought what I was told in the beginning is what it is.” Which is odd, because Johnson insists he had free rein to come up with any answer he wanted to the question. “I wasn’t given any directive as to what that had to be,” he says. “I was never given the information that she is this or she is that.”....Abrams (however)“cryptically” hinted that he and Johnson had more coordination than Johnson let on."

    http://collider.com/star-wars-reys-parents-answer/

Conclusion---nothing ever changed and TLJ is great movie , especially in the way it has made us all believe (worry) that Rey parents question is solved in the toughest way to hear.

Of course its not really solved, absolutely not,it was not intended to be really solved in ep VIII.

Quite contrary it is more and more obvious it was wise tactical move, since revealing her parents in ep VIII indeed would add to little to the drama in that central pat of the trilogy and would be incomparable in its impact to "I am your father " from original trilogy. in the same leaving episode IX to be predictable.

However, by episode VIII masterful twist Rian Johnson has turned Rey parentage reveal in ep IX in to a real drama that will be at the end comparable with "I am your father" from the original trilogy.

And that is what fandom wants, but now they will get it as a surprise they believed was impossible .

    Chears!

More than obviously, in my eyes.

Rey's parents are still, even after TLJ (actually exactly because of the way this issue has been edressed in TLJ ) the single greatest potential twist left in ep IX.

What other speculated scenarios could be potential twists left? ReyLo will kiss and unite in a explosion of light and love becoming one balanced supernatural entity ?,Snoke didn't died?, Ben will be redeemed? Ben will stay Dark Lord forever?. Ben will die? There would be a time jump between episode VIII and IX since we need time to pass over Leia's death , and episode IX will be 10 years later and Broomboi is next Obi-Wan while Rey is leader of the resistance with Leia's hair style? Hux became military genius?..ok that last one would be twist.

Nothing of this has anymore a real twist potential if or when delivered in ep IX and is in the realm of widely expected if happens..

Only one single major issue remains as a potential twist ,and is now actually potentiated by the TLJ, and that are Rey's true origins.

Again, the Cave is dark side as mentioned by Rian Johnson and warned by Luke in TLJ. Can't be trusted as it's deceptive.

Again, no it isn't deceptive. That is something you are making up.
The Dagobah cave didn't deceive Luke.
The Ach-To cave didn't deceive Rey.

You are correct, Force can not lie(poeple using Force can) . Snoke could Lie, Kylo to, but Force in cave didn't lied to Rey.

Cave however denied Rey the information.

It fitts perfectly in new canon phylosophy of the force like Tide in the sea.

Force has Tides, (light) and Ebbs (dark) phases. But its one same Cosmic Force.

Ahch-To cave , said in novel, is carved by sea Tides, and is actually flooded during Tide of the sea,

Rey came there durring ebb phase, when cave is dry, she got information blackout - cave deprived her of information. We call it Dark side.

Cave didn't told to Rey she is child of 2 drunkards, Rey says she got just zero(0) usable information from the cave.

Haha, making it up? The Dark side isn't fueled with deception? of course not! The sith would never be masters at deception while learning from the dark side arts right? and yet.....

    SITH
An ancient order of Force-wielders devoted to the dark side, the Sith practice hate, deception, and greed.

    Only from this source...

    https://www.starwars.com/databank/sith

"That place… is strong with the dark side of the Force. A domain of evil it is. In you must go."
    "What's in there?"
"Only what you take with you."

Then again so good at deception the dark side may be, that you end up tricking yourself. ;) if in her head she was a nobody, anobody she will be.

I'd say that sums it up pretty well. Kylo most probably lied to her to rally her for his cause, it was perfect timing according to him. The cave did deny her the info, as you see two distinct people walking towards the reflective pane, just to have it be swiped away at the last second.

    Exactly.
Dark cave is summary of the entire story around Rey in TLJ.
Dark side denied the truth to Rey.

Interesting,in the film novelisation Rey sees in Snoke's eyes that same void she felt in Dark cave.

So much uncertainty would not be included in the film and novel if Rey nobody is truth and this truth was intended to be delivered as definitive.

Since the dirrector of the film has left wast,"ready to go" possibility that what was told could be untrue, one has than made it with purpose.

As Rian said, this is test for Rey,way to make her grow.

But if anyone believes the question is solved, and that impirtance of the true Rey lineage is insignificant, the one is part of typical public which has been treated with ep VIII for episode IX to blow their minds and make them overwhelmed .Thanfully ,majority is such and will stay such regardles,so the twist impact of ep .IX is guaranteed.Of course the minoriy,us,will enjoy no lees in this beauty of profoundly satissfying answer that Will honor 40 years of Star Wars while make it new and fresh as never before in the same time.
