Sith Trooper revealed

Oh they're definitely just gonna be background nose, the question is now does Sith have any meaning? I like to think it does... otherwise why call it a Sith? They could have just called them red troopers

 

I said it before and I'm saying it again. I think these Sith Troopers are Clones.


The FO uses clones while the Resistance uses Battle Droids from the PT era. That would be an awesome mirroring of the PT. But now the good guys use droids.


Otherwise I dig the look of these new troopers.

 

It's impossible to guess what the Sith Troopers are all about, really, but I'm gonna try anyway

My go-to answer was, "probably Supreme Leader Kylo has uniformed the Knights of Ren", but seeing as they are described specifically as "next evolution in Imperial/First Order soldiers" that doesn't really seem to fit.

The clone option is quite cool, I think. Could they have cloned someone with a Sith connection to warrant the name? Or possibly spliced some Sithian stuff into a Jango sample? Interesting stuff.

The Sith Troopers COULD just be cool-looking, non-meaning, new shinies for the film, with the name given them solely for the dread factor. (I mean, the Death Troopers weren't dead, right? ). This would be the least interesting of the options, IMHO, but also the one that requires no actual exposition. (You could just leave them in the background, or even the foreground, and leave it at that; no explanation needed). I believe this is quite likely the case; just cool new stormies. Naming them "Sith" also ties in to the possible (although by no means certain) option of the next-gen Jedi being given the honorific "Skywalker"; i.e. a reapplication of ancient names and concepts throughout.

If you remember a while back John Boyega already revealed the red helmet design. The only thing that was different was the Spider Man look.

 

Or Luke? What would it be like if one took their helmet off and you saw a digitally de-aged Mark Hamill with a menacing scowl?

Maybe Palpatine never died and he’s just been in a bacta tank all this time and these are his guards?

This is all part of the fun in a new Star Wars movie. I’d never want to read a spoiler and actually know, but it’s fun to guess.

These are definitely very cool looking!

I assume these new Sith troopers will have the best abilities of both regular Stormtroopers and Praetorian Guards... They won’t be able to shoot straight and will stand around making silly action poses in combat before getting killed despite vastly outnumbering their opponents. I wonder if they will have their limbs removed via CGI too?

 

Snoke wasn't Sith. Neither is Kylo Ren, although he wishes he could be. So where do Sith Troopers fit in? With Palpatine..... although that doesn't explain why Palpatine era troopers would look like First Order troopers. Maybe its just bad continuity by the production staff at Disneyland, I mean Lucasfilm. (!)

 

So it is just bad continuity. *sigh*

And if they're Palpy clones in armour, why do they need guns? They have force lightning. Or do these clones have "very limited POW-ERRRR!"

So, the troopers just listen to Kylo and his knights. I can see this a way of redeeming the white Stormtroopers.

 

Probably because of the lack of training the only force power they have is palpatines laughing.
Imagine thousands of troopers laughing like Palp. You won't need any weapon to win the battle.

 

With Palpatine returning, it means everything that has happened before was part of his plan. There's no way Palpatine just shows up and wasn't responsible for everything, including Snoke. The First Order was just the beginning, reestablishing a Sith Empire would be Palpatines goal. So we may find out that these guys were being cloned behind the scenes and now they are being activated so Kylo can squash any opposition from Hux's troops. The troops wont be called Sith Troopers until Palpatine reveals it's been him all along to Kylo. Kylo will feel played and pissed off since he thought he was going to be the ruler and that it was his destiny, just like it could have been Vader's.

 

When I heard "Sith Troopers" I got excited. Then I saw them. Underwhelming is the adjective that describes my feelings. Not "wonderment", not "excitement." Looks just like a FO trooper with armor painted red.

My bet right now is they will be equally underwhelming on screen. I'd like them to be an important part of the story, but fear they'll have 5 seconds of screen time and no more. Sorry for the cynicism but this is weak. I expected way more.

 

You could have said the same thing about any variant of Troopers. Death Troopers are just black Storm Troopers. Clones are just Storm Troopers in different helmets. etc, etc. Nothing in this trilogy will be crazy different than what's come before since they want it to feel like an extension of time, not a whole new era or galaxy.

 

You could, but you can see there was an attempt to show evolution. Change. Clone troopers are trying to show that the Storm Troopers of the OT evolved from an earlier design. Death Troopers were supposed to be part of the Imperial Army, but apart from it. This???? Just painting a FO trooper red????

Sorry man, I enjoyed TFA and I love JJ Abrams, but this smacks of uninspired laziness. Why are Sith "troopers" running around in armor that is essentially the same as the foot soldiers? I hope we get some sort of explanation, but this really does make of a lack of creativity and inspiration.

 

Don't get hung up on the name. I think the First Order is being rebranded into the Sith Empire under Palpatine. Imagine retiring white troopers in favor of blood red troopers everywhere. That would be a pretty dark imagery.

Nah. Phasma was never cool. She was only popular because the actress inside the "chrome dome" was in the popular Game Of Thrones series.
If another person had played Phasma, would it have been the same "cool" ? Its basically a silver stormtrooper in a cape that got bested twice by a lower ranked toilet janitor.

 

The Sith Trooper design is actually different in many ways from the FO troopers. There are more tactical attachments/pouch things and there's the line down from the visor, reminiscent of the second gen clone trooper design.

Different trooper designs have been part of Star Wars since the beginning. Sand Troopers, Snow Troopers, Scout Troopers. It's one of the great nerdy things about Star Wars. And as far as I'm concerned, the Sith Trooper is freaking dope.
