Skellig Michael (Luke's Island) - A Visitor's Guide

I am still in a good shape, and I think its not gonna be so hard to climb all those steps....hehehehe
Beautiful place, hope visiting someday.

 

Can't be worse than the Great Wall.

- to your right are some rocks .

- to your left are some rocks .

- if you look up, you'll see Luke Skywalker .

 

I visited Skellig last may. And yes that video would almost put you off. But when you're in the boat in 30foot swells on the ocean and you see skellig emerging out of the mist, you'll forget all about that.
Then you get on the island. I was there on an insanely stormy windy day. The wind is coming at you from every direction and the steps are all wet. So you have to really focus on every single step. People have been blown off the climb or slipped and fell. There are a number of points in the climb where it's a straight drop down a cliff face onto the rocks and ocean below.

That said I'd go again in a heartbeat. Going back in may in fact.
You guys have any questions about getting there or where to stay let me know. It can be tricky getting to the villages the boats leave from and getting around unless you're driving.
