Snoke is simply Snoke so Snoke is also The Supreme Leader of The First Order and Ben's teacher of The Dark Side of The Force :) .

My guess is that Snoke is just a new Disney villain that was added to SW. I'm pretty sure his story will be added in some way to the one well already know just like what happend to Grand Admiral Thrawn or Prince Xezor. I for one am very happy that he isn't Plagueis.

...Except that Thrawn & Prince Xezor are now LEGENDS.

True but the method that was used to include those new characters into an already existing storyline can be the very same method they use to add Snoke to the story we already know. For me at least, that would be really good instead of him just popping out of nowhere saying look at me look at me! I'm Snoke and I came out of nowhere and I gots myself an army that looks exactly like the Empire! That would be really sucky in my book.

...and I fully agree with you there but they've kind of painted themselves into a corner and will probably have to pull something from their a##.

From a certain point of view. After all, we don't know everything those devious story group folks are cooking up, much less what Rian Johnson has written. I think Snoke was originally concieved to be familiar. There are callbacks to previous villians, canon and Legends alike. JJ Abrams and Larry Kasdan didn't put a whole lot of detail into the background because they were writing an introductory story. A New Hope 2.0, if you will. They creatred interesting characters thrust into familiar-yet-new situations. It's up to Rian Johnson, and to an extent the story team, to flesh out the rest in the same way George had to flesh out the original trilogy after the original Star Wars movie.

    Rakata
    --- Double Post Merged, May 12, 2016, Original Post Date: May 12, 2016 ---
Actually after reading your theory, I amend, Snoke is a Cronal type character who has studied Rakata lore. The reference to Malachore and Rakata Prime's appearance on the star map releast pre TFA point to this.

To me, saying that Snoke was inspired by Cronal equals the story group pulling something from their a#sses.

And by that I'm not saying it isn't plausible they've done just that. It just feels as if they are cheating or something.

Its only money. Darth Plagueis will close the saga, make it perfect from one point of view, however, to perfect. Plagueis starts it all, and by his demise its all finished in episode IX. This closes the saga, and there is no room for another trilogy with such perfect standards for main villain .
They needed more "liberal", non-Sith main villain, one that emerges outside of old SW mithology, to open the story line for the future films,(there will be dozens of them in next decades). Yes people think Plagueis will bring connection, well this is his main problem, Disney needed to break as many connections as possible.
By "Cronal" recycling they opened the story line, taking a sandbox roadmap that enables Disney to produce many more films without worrying to satisfy rock solid but "conservative"criteria of classic Star Wars mithology. No more Sith, Jedi--jea but meh, and a buch of new villains, new types of Force wielders.....an open space for Disney...which was actually announced long ago.

And it's exactly that...ANH 2.0 and they could have at least written SOMETHING about SNOKE but we have literally nothing.

Couldn't be anymore true. I really think Snoke's inspiration may have come from various EU characters and not just from one. In the end Snoke will be Snoke.

But certain things need to be clarified about him so it won't keep confusing everyone.

Yea, I assume VIII and IX will give more background info on Snoke to a least know a little about him. The movies are not about him, so I don't look for a lot but more than we got on the Emperor in the OT. We at least saw him along with some interaction in TFA as opposed to just hearing about the Emperor in ANH

I don't understand why people are not happy with brand new characters. There many stories to come and that's for stories that you go to theater right ?

The thing about The Emperor is that he wasn't even introduced until ESB and was shown for literally one minute so we barely questioned him and he wasn't ever made a big deal...unlike Supreme Leader Snoke.
