I would say that following that closely to the fall of the Empire it suggests he is part of the fall back, regroup and reform contingency.

My guess is he is the lastest leader of they Cylo project seen in the Vader comics. Or an Inquisitor that rose to top.

Sorry but not a chance for me he is someone who has always been in the Unknown Regions where the remaining Imperial forces fled to. Then at some point those forces discovered Snoke or he actually found them & offered his assistance to them in surviving in the UR then slowly built up his influence befor making a full take over some time before the FO makes a reappearance.

Yeah, while there's be some payoff for having a reference to Rebels or the comics like that, it's be pretty meaningless to most people watching the film.

Along with the heavy references that there is something out in the Unknown Regions, I simply have a hard time believing Snoke doesn't at least come from there, too.

Snoke's obvious active presence can now be tracked somewhere at the time of battle of Jakku .which supports such possibilities. If Lea is right Snoke influenced Ben from birth and Ben is born arround the time of battle on Jakku.Snoke thus suddenly becames active soon after Palpatine's death which happened one year before Battle on Jakku. Was he waiting Palpatine's and Vader's death?

It's interesting to me that Han and Leia both refer to Snoke in TFA in a way that suggests they might know him a little more than the average person. When you look at the OT people just referred to Palpatine as "The Emperor". Only people who were closely involved in the events of the PT would have known exactly what transpired with Sheev so I think it will be interesting to see how much Leia (and Han) know/did know. You would think the First Order being smaller and less in control than the Empire would make who it's leadership more mysterious. I don't think Snoke is broadcasting speeches over the Holonet and if he came from the unknown regions then why would anyone except the people working under him know him specifically by name? I'm pretty sure Snoke/Ben/Leia/Han had something happen where they were all very much involved. I don't think Ben just flipped on his own and disappeared. That would give no explanation of how Han and Leia knew anything about Snoke. At some point Snoke must have been very hands on.

Perhaps Snoke was present when whatever happened at Luke academy when the down & they guy obvasly found some way to gain a influence over Ben at least in terms of ideology so I think that Leia & Han would make it there business to find as much as they could about this guy who managed to corrupt there son to the dark side.

This might be the worst Snoke theory in history, but if he's a resurrected Kenobi then the FO leadership can call themselves Ben Squared.

    That'd be pretty cool. :p

He might be from unknown reaches as I said earlier. His activity so close to the fall of the Empire suggest that he wasn't just stumbled on. Even if he is some strange outsider or darkside ancient he was acting up soon after the fall. Apparently in a region the Imp Remnant rallied to. That to me suggests that he is part of Sheeves contingency, or the rally point was based on a planet that just so happened to have a powerful darksider living there.

Knowing this and knowing that they are making this up as they go - i.e. there's no road map for the ST. Abrams statement that Snoke is definitely not Plagueis was true when he said it. At that time, Snoke was just Snoke. Is it possible he may still end up being Plagueis?? It seems remotely possible to me.

snoke had to have been a part of the galaxy if he knew anakin so i think he was either a fallen jedi and/or a politician.

Indeed, in one moment Gallius Rax perfectly fitted the story to be Snoke.......and than Rey Soane cames into the Observatory on Jakku and kills him like a dog emptying blaster clip in his stomach. That really complicated things for me.

Beacuse as I pointed my calculation shown Snoke was already active force wielder at that time. But, could Palpatine allow coexistance of such powerfull dark weilder alongside him? Anywhere. Besides Snoke is Old at least contemporary of Palpatine but most probabaly older than him..

If we consider hints in novel that lea felt Snoke's remote grip in her stomach , Snoke did that to her just few months after Palpatine and vader Died on Endor.?
    That was quick.

    Not necessarily.

    First of all-
Thrawn met Anakin during the Clone Wars, despite having lived (and returning afterward) to the Chiss Ascendancy within the Unknown Regions. I'm certainly not saying Thrawn is Snoke, but the fact that there's already precedent for someone from the UR meeting Anakin is quite a specific set of circumstances being fulfilled.

Also- Snoke is clearly strong in the Dark Side, if he can begin his influence on Ben at such an early age. Incredibly strong.
Maybe his physical presence in learning about Vader was not necessary. Maybe he had spies. Or- maybe he's simply lying.

True, I really don't think Palpatine would tolerate Snoke- or, perhaps he would have replaced Vader with Snoke, if he thought he could wield such power. It wouldn't be the first time Vader would have had to fight for his place.

The fact that Snoke began acting so quickly after Endor really implies to me that he felt the Emperor and Vader's deaths.

Snoke watched the Empire rise and fall, he knew/knows about Vader and Luke, about Vader turning on the Emperor etc... That doesn't strike me as stuff someone in a different part of the universe watching (on CNN?) from afar would know. I think it speaks to some kind of involvement.

    Possibly.

Going with the CNN analogy, though...

Would it be that out of the realm of possibility for, let's say, someone in Asia learning about American politics from afar and adapting his own political strategy in the country? (Not trying to draw any parallels, I promise.)

I agree that from a narrative standpoint it might be interesting for Snoke to have been involved with the GCW or fall of the Empire, but new canon novels have fleshed out that story pretty well so far without him.

Regardless- even if he was involved, doesn't mean he doesn't hail from the UR. Technically, both theories can still mesh.

Those are very good points particularly Vader turning on the emperor that is definitely not common knowledge the obvious way he found out about it would have been through Luke but I can't think why Luke would bring that up in a conversation I suppose Ben could have told him but for me the scen played out as if Snoke had told Ben this info several times before. But hey we only have about 6 months to go before TLJ so hopefully we get some more answers then

So who in the unknown region is filming, reporting on Republic/Imperial politics? How did Snoke knew about the Vader/Luke confrontation?

Yap, it looks most plausible he jumped into Unknown regions after the remnants of the Imperial forces to take control over them. It was disorganised force ready to find a new strong leader. In the known galaxy there was now New Republic rising, backed by powerfull Luke at that time.

Maybe he was probing situation, but in this case Imperial security was already breached even before Palpatine died.

It can be excavations on Jakku and mendling with ancient vectors to unknown space have unlocked troubles.
